Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Patience is a Virtue

Postby Levakys on March 1st, 2012, 9:47 pm

The 9th Day of Spring, 512 A.V.

Becoming a priest was something Levakys wanted more than anything. To give honor in all things to Wysar while bringing honor to his bloodline, this was what Levakys was born to do. But he also understood that being a dedicated follower of Wysar was a way of life, it was not a job that paid the bills. He had spent much time discussing lifestyles with other priests of the Temple. There were those who maintained the bees and others who worked the vineyards, some who worked the brewery while others managed leathercrafts to bind books. Each priest had found a talent that not only gave them a steady income to support life in Riverfall, but it also provided a useful talent within the Temple when the need arose.

It was during all of this discussion that Levakys had drawn a conclusion for his own path. Combat was a game of patience. Patience was a derivative of Willpower which was a quality of discipline, the domain of Wysar. Aside from when he trained and practiced in the combat arts, Levakys remembered his schooling and the joy he had writing. Not what he wrote, but perfecting the quality of each stroke as he put quill to parchment. He enjoyed the patience it took to try and perfect each stroke as he penned out each letter. There was a tranquility that existed, as if time stood still, when writing flawless looking words.

This was the skill he wished to perfect that would serve as a both a way to earn an income and continue practicing patience. He knew he would never achieve his goals alone, but with Wysar's guidance, all things would be possible. The only place he could think of to work on this skill was back in the place where all Akalak youth were taught, the Academy. When he was young, Levakys remembered that their were scribes who worked in the library who's over all job was to write. Some rewrote old books that deteriorated too much to be usable while others spent their time writing banners and fliers for various academic functions. It seemed the best place to start.

Levakys headed over to the Valkalah Academy and walked towards the Riverfall library. Right inside the entry sat a young Akalak who's soul purpose was making sure none of the books were stolen. This seemed like the logical first step.

“Excuse me, I am Levakys and I seek the Head Librarian about possible work.”

Patience is a Virtue

The young Akalak manning the desk gestured to a small door almost concealed besides the doorless rare books section. "Through there. He's in." The youth said helpfully. He continued sorting through the volumes he had on his desk, inspecting for damage, doing some light cleaning, and getting ready to reshelve them. The library itself, had half empty shelves, mostly missing texts, and was in a state of being 'reassembled' after its disassembly in the storm.

The door, if Levakys approached, would be found to have no lock and swung easily. An Akontak, Pervisi, sat behind a very empty looking desk in a very evacuated looking office .... scowling thoughtfully at a report in his hands. He glanced up as Levakys entered and beckoned at the folder. "Nevar wants me to research any occurrences of male akalaks' reversing sex to females. I've never heard of such thing and have volumes to go through. Its only been twenty days since the storm, but I lost all five of my assistants in the storm... moving books from the towers. Fools. It was enough that we got this library moved, and not try to save every private library in the city. Are you here for a job? I need an assistant, especially if Nevar keeps making these demands..." The Akontak said, looking thoughtful. "I'm Pervisi. I forget to introduce myself all the time because I'm always assuming people know who I am. Sorry for that... its been a hectic season change." He added.

Patience is a Virtue

Levakys followed the youth into the room where the head librarian was. He watched as the Akalak looked in disarray at all the work in front of him along with the work that was to be. The man spoke looking at him from time to time while continuing on with his duties.

Levakys expected a lot of reshuffling work to be going on from the after effects of the storm. What he had not expected was to hear of the loss of employees. Had he meant these Akalak were dead or that they went on to other thinks to help out within the colony? He could only assume that the librarian had meant dead to which he immediately gave of a small prayer to Wysar for the loss.

The mention of Akalak turning from men to women, Levakys assumed had to do with the rumors of a patrol returning from amidst the storm. Rumor had said that the Akalak returned as women, though he had yet to meet anyone who could do anything more than continue on with the rumor. The fact that Nevar was asking the librarian to research it helped establish truth to the rumor for the first time though Levakys said nothing on the subject.

"I am here in search of employment and will be happy to aid in the reorganization of the great library. I am also hoping that employment here will provide training in calligraphy, as this is a talent I wish to perfect."
Levakys replied while offering a smile. "And I remember you quite well, Pervisi, from my training in the academy as a youth."

OOC: The assistant is an Akalak and working on a cluttered desk. The head librarian is an Akontak has a near vacant office. Please read carefully!

Pervisi looked thoughtfully at the Akalak and nodded his white hair. Scales shown on his neck and arms as he flipped through the report Nevar had sent him and the requests in the folder he held for more information. Webbing was evident on his fingers. "Ahh. Yes. And you are? I'm afraid I don't remember you as you remember me." He said, the assistant who lead the man into the office having failed in any way shape or form to introduce him. He'd just been escorted in and left.

"Yes, I need new assistants. What are your qualifications? Of course you will have to work on your calligraphy here. I demand quality from my copyists and if you are not so great at this then you'll be reduced to copying lender books until your skill comes up." The man said, looking thoughtful. "What hours can you put in and what do you expect to be paid?" He asked, already proving himself the no-nonsense sort.
