The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

Getting Lost

1 of the Day, Spring of 512 A.V.

The wind bent the long golden stalks of grass making waves across the open fields. Danica lay sprawled in the grass her hands tucked under her head and her eyes closed against the hot sun. It may only be the first day of spring but it was a hot day out here. Danica had always been a summer person, lounging in heat that instantly made sweat bead on her skin. Now it was pleasant. Not the overwhelming heat that she normally enjoyed but one where she could lay in the beating sun. The breeze that floated across the plain brought with it a slight chill but it was easy to ignore. Her whip was lying off to the side, discarded and she had left without anything else but the clothes on her back. Altari grazed somewhere nearby but he had wandered out of her sight while she had laid here.

She opened one large rusty brown eye and let it roam around her. He was still nowhere to be seen and she shut in again unconcerned. Her light blouse blew off her stomach as another breeze passed by and she moved one hand to lay it across the material and keep it down. Calfskin riding trousers covered her legs, and ankle high boots were tossed off her feet and lay near her whip. Her long blonde hair was spread out under her and was probably filled with dirt and blades of grass by now.

A sigh escaped her lips as she thought of why she had wandered out here alone. It sprung unbidden to her mind, like most things one tries to run from. She had been in a fight with one of her friends, and even now after all this time together he didn’t seem to understand that asking her a question meant getting a straight answer. She rolled over onto her stomach and willed herself to think of something else, anything else.

Heedless of the dangers of the grassland Danica rose. She pulled on her boots and gathered her whip up off the ground. Maybe she needed a walk to clear her head, to keep her mind off things. Every time they shifted back to the events of earlier she found herself just getting mad.
