Built high in the massive branches of Taldera's bloodwood forest, The Spires is a city crafted by the peaceful and scholarly Jamoura. Considered a haven for scholars and sages Mizahar-wide, The Spires is a mecca of philosophy and science that draws people from far and wide with its promise of deeper thinking and higher reasoning.

Near the outer edge of the Base Camp, lies a large, open field dotted with apple trees. This area was built out of necessity due to the large amount of newcomers wishing to help the troubled city. A single Drykas man living in the city escaped with the rest of those early in the season. When they had finally begun building the Base Camp, and the first of those coming to provide assistance had brought horses with them. Many, many horses. So, Jakobi Windstalker built a large fence out of living Slugsuckle vines by wrapping them around trees and stretching them along, until he had a large enclosed field. Jakobi is the only person that escaped the city that has specific knowledge of horses, and any assistance would be most welcome.

The field can hold a fairly large herd of horses, and the grasses here are quite hardy and grows back faster than it can be eaten. The apples that hang from the low trees are quite bitter to people and Jamoura alike, but most horses seem to like them quite well. The Slugsuckle vines encasing the area grow quite quickly, and must be guided and pruned daily. The gate is made from a single post with several branches tied together by more of the useful vines. The gate must be tied or all of the horses would escape, leaving several adventurers and mercenaries quite unhappy. Anyone can keep their horse here for free, and they will be in good hands. Jakobi has the surprising ability to know which horse goes to which rider, whether or not he knows either of their names.

Jakobi was cast out from his Pavilion into the Sea of Grass for a crime he will not talk about. Among his people, this is often considered a death sentence. However, by some cruel twist of fate, or a strange occurrence of luck, he survived and escaped to the north. He had wandered a few cities here and there, staying for a year, tending to foreigners' horses while never having another of his own. He eventually found The Spires and lived there trying to find peace within himself. Unlike the other cities, the Spirians never seemed to ask about his past nor pass any unfounded judgment upon him. He was accepted wholeheartedly and without reservation. After the Djed Storm of 512 hit, he built the paddock to house the large influx of arrivals' horses, and has tended to them ever since.

Sarahi leaned against an old twisted apple tree and watched the horses graze. They were beautiful, graceful gaints. She knew how to ride, but never really learned how to do more than a fast trot. There was never really a need to in the desert. It was best not to exert the horses. Besides, she usually stayed in the caravan, making sure none of the goods were destroyed by large bump, or steep inclines. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw a movement. She turned and watched Jakobi ride in on a beautiful black horse that reminded her of her own. Remembering her ealier mission, she searched the field for Arctos. Finding him grazing happily, she let her gaze wander back to Jakobi. She watched him in amazement as he led his horse with only his legs and round up horses that were wandering too far from the rest of the herd. She wished she could do that. Then she decided to take action. She hadn't gotten a job yet and thought the extra money would help. She strode foward, then stopped at a distance, where he could see her, but she was out of the way of the cantering horses.

Jakobi watched the girl stroll into his yard, and simply stand there watching, waiting. Why were all these women constantly coming to work with his horses? Not that he was complaining, but they were all so... short. Which made them slow. But easy on the eyes, definitely easy on the eyes. This latest one had an exotic look about her, perhaps from the deserts to the south of his homelands. He hopped down off of Lykaiha, and recognized the woman was the partner of a horse named Arctos. He frowned. That horse barely had any training with a rider, which meant his rider probably had even less training.

He strode over to her, his face clearly showing disapproval. He saw a few horse hairs on her, but she didn't have the smell of someone dedicated to their partner. Oh well, could never get enough Grooms, and if they learned something proper about having a horse as a partner, then it was worth it. "Clearly you want a job like the rest of them around here." He reached into his side satchel and tossed her an assortment of brushes, combs, and tools. "You're hired on as a Groom, 1 Golden a day. Now get to work, and you best do it right."

OOC :
You've been hired as a Groom, 1gm/day. This will require you to do 2 work threads a season in order to collect wages. Improving your Animal Husbandry could improve your pay and position.

Sarahi blinked. That was... Blunt. Oh, she knew how took take care of horses. That was basically her job in the caravan, she just needed some training in Riding. That would be very helpful. She took the tools and walked over to the horses. She wasn't going to ask for lessons yet. That would come up later. She smiled and whisled slightly, and watched some horses trot up to her. She was very observant and found that many riders called their horses to them with the same whisle. She started on a Dun Gilding brushing in circles, removing dirt from it's coat. After she was finished with the coat, Sarahi started on the hooves. She took one hoof and began to pick away at the dirt inside. The horse nipped at her back. She turned around and gave the horse a stern talking to. Then she went back to the hooves. What ever she had said worked, because the horse was well mannered after that. Soon, she was done and was worrking on the next horse. She found some ticks and pulled them off. Then, holding the horse still, she whisled for Arctos. She pointed to a scatcel and the horse went and got it for her. She had trained him to do that when she was lost in the desert. It gave them both something to do. She reached in and pulled out some dried plant leaves and a bowl. She picked the dried leaves with some water and made a paste. She then applied the paste to the horse's skin. She then went on brushing the horses and fixing some other problems. Soon, she was done. She packed up the equipment and then went to sit under the old apple tree. She pulled out her water skin and drank deeply. She hadn't worked so hard since she was in the caravan.
