Character Concept

A self-proclaimed 'Debt Collector', Tetreka is a slaver, a loan shark and a thug. He considers slavery to be a just institution, and as a contributor to that institution a just man himself.

Character History

Tetreka was born into a family of criminals; His father was a mugger, his mother was a bandit, and at the time he was born both of Tetreka's older brothers were pick-pockets. He ended up getting plenty of motivation to stay away from crime though; his father didn't come home one day after trying to mug a pair of Foxes, his mother came home another day, but bleeding to death of arrow wounds, and one of his brothers ended up being publicly executed after killing a guard while resisting arrest. Tetreka was 12 at that point in his life, and his remaining older brother had to flee the city shortly thereafter after being witnessed stealing from a noble; It is assumed that brother perished in the desert.

Tetreka wasn't good enough at taking what others owned to sustain himself on crime, so he picked up the honest job of shoveling out stables to feed himself, and then sneaking back into the stables at night to sleep. As he got bigger and stronger, Tetreka took on harder and harder work, usually on farms, laboring all day in the killer Ekytol sun loading carts and baling hay. At nineteen, he found himself being sent with the carts into town as he'd gotten tall and the hard work had given him big muscles; he just had to hold some javelins and any thieving opportunists apparently considered him to be more of a risk than whatever the cart had must have been worth. Traveling with the carts proved to be a bad turn for him; one day, while waiting for the driver to empty his bowels halfway through the trip into town, a pleasant looking woman inquired what his salary was, and after he answered honestly, she offered him better work. Tetreka soon found himself working for a Scorpion in the pillars of dust; said scorpion owned a few Larks, and customers occasionally took issue with paying for services rendered; Tetreka would be sent to collect, his big frame doing most of the work. Occasionally a Benshira or Dhani customer would find themselves with no coin with which to pay; Tetreka's task became levying a beat-down with minimal bruising and hauling the subdued customer to the slavemarket, where he would stand guard as his boss did most of the 'offical' work in submitting a slave for auction.

After two years of that, his boss ended up getting a dagger to the neck in some sort of territory dispute; knowing where his dead employers money was kept, Tetreka helped himself to it and put himself in a different business; making loans. It was only just barely profitable by itself, but occasionally, someone would be unable to pay it and Tetreka had no reservations about hauling these people off as slaves; and with paperwork to back up his debts, Eypharians found themselves being sold too, though he couldn't be nearly as rough about bringing them in. Slaving brought in big money, and after a while of everybody paying off their loans on time, Tetreka got tired of being strictly legal about it. Beggars, Mirage addicts, weary travelers; anybody who wasn't Eypharian and lacked the capacity to resist him became a profit.

Skill Development summaries:
Boxing - When not stealing, his brothers would beat up on eachother, and then the loser would invariably beat up on Tetreka - while they did essentially viciously beat eachother, they were very strict about fighting 'fair', as unfair fighting would typically result in the poor sport being ganged up on by the other two brothers. Tetreka, being the youngest, got a good sense of the bobbing, weaving, and blocking that would keep him unconcussed. He's figured out the basic punches by watching other fighters and getting into brawls as he grew older. (10 SP)

Body-Building - Being a farmhand on a budget does wonders for figuring out how to stay in shape. The exercises Tetreka conducts during his free time are all derivitatives of the most excruciating farm work or basic shadow-boxing. As for diet, he's learned through trial and error what he needs to consume to keep his muscles from being overly sore - these same eating habits help to keep him big and strong, too. (5 SP)

Intimidation - The most decisive victories are battles never fought. Tall, armed, and with hard looking muscle, it isn't difficult for Tetreka to be intimidating. Rather than shouts or outright threats, Tetreka subtly suggests through phrasing and body language that non-compliance to his requests would beget bodily harm. He's picked up on the posturing by tough types in the slums, and employs the same techniques to earn compliance without violence. (10 SP)

Javelin - Eypharians have a natural affinity for weapons, and the only one Tetreka has used in his whole life is the Javelin. It started when he was very young, his mother giving him a bit of training to keep either of them from going insane until he was old enough to be left alone. Later, it became his weapon of choice when apprehending soon to be slaves - having a pointy tip but a flat, hard body made javelins the ideal weapon for either subduing rather timid slaves or fighting his way out of places viciously when the slave-to-be was among friends. Later, as he found himself stopping debtors fleeing on horse or camel, he found himself making good use of it both as a small spear to stop a pseudo-cavalry charge, and if the debtor was running the opposite way, putting a Javelin into the rear of a mount would stop it and the rider from going much further. Tetreka considers the Javelin perfect for dealing with problems whether close or far, and can't imagine himself wielding anything else. (10 RB, 20 SB)

Dual-Wielding - While the Javelin is terrific for dealing with the individual dagger or khopesh, Tetreka found himself struggling to deal with people equipped with faster and longer weapons, especially if they had a shield with them. Adding the need to bring down debtors without causing actual wounds made single javelin usage not nearly good enough. Tetreka hasn't managed to get any formal training (His attempts have been met with laughter), but has picked up the very basics - Parry with one, riposte with the other, parry with one, riposte with the other. A novice in the truest form, Tetreka just wields two at a time so that he might always have two angles of attack, and always have some method of defense. (5 SB)

Languages

Fluent Language: Common
Basic Language: Arumenic
Poor Language: Shiber

While Arumenic is absolutely necessary conducting himself around the gilded and the auction house, it's rarely used with the bulk of the people he interacts with, usually potential slaves and rarely Eypharians. Most of the Shiber he knows is insults, of which he was the target. Something about shouting at Benshira in their own language while making them submit strikes him as amusing.

Lores: (Pick 2)
Lore of Slaving - Ahnatep Market
Lore of Ahnatep Politics

Tetreka picked up his knowledge of the local slave market as a hired thug, and as a "businessman" in Ahanatep, knowing who not to piss off is instrumental to economic survival.
