Ciel Galen Physical Description Name: Ciel Galen Race: Human Age: 20 Birthday: 76th Day of Winter, 491 AV Physical Appearance Ciel has light blond hair and bright green eyes. He stands at about six feet in height, with fair skin that some people might describe as pale. His features are handsome, but he usually has a condescending (and occasionally somewhat crazed expression) on his face, which tends to drive other people away. Character Concept On the inside, Ciel might share his mother's...reservations about Rhysol and the Black Sun, but he is smart enough to keep them hidden. To hear him talk, a casual observer would believe that he's extremely loyal to the city, and that his mother and older sister are both traitors. He is intelligent, articulate, and well-spoken, with a fascination with medicine and anatomy that some say might border slightly on the creepy. He isn't a bad person, per se. He does have his morals, and won't harm another person without being provoked, but don't expect him to go out of his way to help another person either, without benefit to himself. There are only a few people that Ciel will go out of his way to assist, and those are almost all related to him. That said, if you can find your way into Ciel's inner circle, you gain a loyal (if slightly insane) friend who will go through great lengths to assist you in your endeavors. Getting there, though, is a difficult task. Aside from his family (who he loves on principle, although freely admits that he is the smartest out of all of them), Ciel is highly critical of anyone he perceives to be of lower intelligence than himself--which is to say, until proven otherwise, everyone. If you can prove yourself to be as smart or smarter than him, or more knowledgeable in a subject area that he considers worthy, you automatically gain his respect. But that doesn't make you his friend, and he has been known to have enemies or rivals that he deeply respects and acknowledges because of this...but would still poison if it weren't illegal or immoral. Befriending him is a little more difficult, because he tends to close himself off from everyone, mostly because of the fact that his inner beliefs and feelings about the city are not what he portrays them to be. He keeps everyone except his sisters at arm's length, and doesn't consider people friends until he willingly lets them in. Ciel has been called crazy before, particularly because he can become so immersed in what he studies that he forgets everything else, and his way of solving problems can be a little...eccentric. Depending on who you ask, the craziness may or may not be genuine. His younger sister, Faye, says that it's all an act and that he's actually saner than he lets on, while his older sister, Zephyr, will tell you that he's actually crazier on the inside than he looks. For the most part, when asked which of his sisters is right, Ciel will reply with a cryptic 'both of them' and go right back to studying. Character History In the spring of 508, Elira Galen, a young, vibrant healer who was marked by Rak'keli, was executed for ties to the Rising Dawn, there having been sufficient evidence to prove that she was secretly extending her healing abilities to those the city called 'terrorists'. This event altered the course of the lives of her three children--Zephyr, then 19, Ciel, then 17, and Faye, a young child of 12. Shortly after Elira's execution, Zephyr left town, leaving some very vocal writings against Ravok and the city behind. With betrayal already seen in two out of four family members, suspicion turned towards Ciel. He was questioned once, during which he firmly denied any knowledge of his sister's whereabouts (the truth, she didn't tell him where she was going or even that she planned to leave), denounced his mother's and sister's actions as clear acts of treason, and affirmed his loyalty to Ravok, Rhysol, and the Black Sun. Since there was no evidence linking him to any of their activities and nothing that said he wasn't telling the truth, Ciel was released, but he is not stupid enough to believe that he is not being watched with suspicion, one of the reasons why he is so careful to not let anyone get close to him. He is fully aware that if his real thoughts on the issue were to be found out, he would be treated the same way as his mother and sister, and there would be no hope left for Faye. Despite all this, the thought of leaving the city never crossed Ciel's mind. Ravok is all that he has ever known. He isn't a warrior, like his sister is or like his father was, and he knows that even if he managed to survive in the wilderness, leaving Faye in Ravok would be signing her death warrant, and bringing her with him would be just as bad.
