It was another glorious day in Avanthal...or so I'd like to write that but it's still too friggin' hot for anyones liking here. Even the horses are complaining.
Speaking of horses, I had to make a large order of horseshoes for the stables. Get this, 3 dozen horseshoes. This could take a few days... I get we have a lot of horses but...come on, why do I have to make 3 flipping dozen of them? Ugh...

Well I got cracking on the hammer and steel to make horseshoes. They're straight-forward enough: take some steel and pound it into a thin sort of rod AFTER you heat it evenly in the forge. Then heat it up again and take it to the horn and beat it until it looks like a horseshoe and then punch a few holes in it for the nails to go in. That's right...nails...you put nails in the feets of horses. I guess their hooves can take it or something? I don't know. I just know that if someone ever tried that with me...they'd be praying to Morwen for mercy.
....Ok maybe I won't be that mean.

This would be going a lot faster if Mother and Father would stop bugging me about getting married. I want to know who I am before I let someone else get THAAAAT close. Besides...I'm sort of waiting on someone. He left a season ago on adventure. But I digress.
I nearly smashed my hand with the hammer today, I managed to pull my hand away just in time as I missed the horseshoe. Why am I using my hands to hold these things? Lesson learned: Don't be an idiot and use the tongs! That's what they're for.

Ok lesson not learned! I didn't smash my hand but I did hit my right ring finger pretty hard and father ran out to find a healer. If only you could have seen it, he practically vanished soon as he found out and dragged the poor guy in behind him. The good news is it wasn't that bad: I just have to rest for a day or two. The bad news? Father tried to marry me off to him...he declined and was hastily booted out. Oh father...you're so funny sometimes.
Wait, it seems like I'm talking to the journal now. Have I gone mad!?
...Meh.

I have decided to name this my Artisans Journal; I might as well as that's all I ever seem to write about in here. Anyway, I finished the second dozen horseshoes with only a few minor screw ups! Father, why are you doing this to me? You know I hate messing up...I know I have to know what it's like to fail before I can succeed but, it still hurts to see all of that effort go to waste because of one error. Oh I'm talking to my journal again...well I guess it's fine since someday maybe my own child will read this. I'm not holding my breath though as children kind of annoy me.
Now for an intermission! I ran into some friends while out on an errand. It was fun catching up but I had work to do and bid them farewell.

It really shouldn't have taken quite this long to get it done but I'm almost there. I almost tripped over some scrap but I caught myself on the table nearby. Note to self: CLEAN!
Speaking of which, today I won't be able to make progress as the forge needs to be cleaned. Scrubbing out the ash is really hard work, especially since some of it just won't come off!
Update: I finished with enough time to make the last four horseshoes. I have a bad feeling though...what if he, my client, gets mad at me for taking so long? Fear not, worries! He gave me a deadline in summer. I'm pretty good. Now to avoid being married off in the meantime, I will pretend to be busy. I guess being prepared for more work is a good thing?

Father wasn't fooled and I had to meet a suitor...that was not fun...
