Physical Description

Quiet and humble, Kuhani is unlike most of the Kalanue clan. Although she has inherited the full-blooded Chaktawe features – smooth, silk-like black hair, jet-colored eyes, etc. – she suffers from a blood disorder (anemia) due to a premature birth. Consequently, she is prone to shortness of breath under exertion and has persistent muscular weakness. Her skin is paler than the others and is cold to the touch, though the tribe members deem it 'soothing' rather than frightening or unnatural. Combined with dark circles beneath her eyes and a small, underweight frame, Kuhani appears to be an ill child.

Then

Born to Oanu, husband of Eyina, on the daybreak of the 2nd day of Summer in the redstone formations of the East, the child was initially given the name Lahunapa. It didn't take long for her parents to realize she was very different than her brother, Kuhanu. She would collapse as she played with other children, fainting from the physical exertion. Her body never grew warm in the sunlight and her eyes, though bright and cheerful, always appeared weak. To show her dependence on her brother, she was given a name similar to his – Kuhani.

She is quiet, yes, and humble, but those qualities came naturally with her sickness, since she hates wallowing in pity. Her spirit is strong and stubborn with a burning hatred for her existence. She understands that she is a burden, a waste of water, in her community, a concept that constantly shames her to this day. But instead of remaining that weak little girl, she began to look for another profession at the age of eight, something that might able to heal, or at least diminish the effects, of her condition. Kuhani took to the tribal healers, watching and helping when needed.

As Kuhani passed her ninth birthday, it was obvious she was going to be smaller than the rest of the flock. The others were taller, stronger, and their limbs were elegantly long and lean. She remained petite and frail from lack of exercise and her copper skin appeared pale from lack of sun. Obviously different than the rest, Kuhani became a social pariah among the other children, being dubbed a child that should have been abandoned at a younger age. Angered, Kuhani continued her training in the healing arts, trying to prove herself.

Now, at the age of fourteen, her ritualistic advancement, her searching, is drawing near. Most of the tribe believes that she will probably die in the desert. The children and more practical members are indifferent, glad that precious water will not be wasted. Her parents are beginning to become worrisome, her brother is growing distant. Kuhani does not appear to think twice of it, apparently acknowledging her approaching death.

Equipment/Possessions

1 Set of Clothing:
Normally seen in an extremely short (upper thigh) white linen dress with
a slit to the hip, though a pair of animal hide shorts, made from wild goat, reach to mid-thigh. At her waist rests a leather belt and black feathers cover the dress from the waist down. Her shoulders are covered by a short animal hide/fur vest that reaches to the middle of her waist, but her arms remained uncovered. Long legs are kissed by the hot winds and her feet remain bare. Her mother's necklace rests just above her breasts and can be seen through the low v-neck of white linen. Silken black hair tends to be let free, though is sometimes bound with a leather cord when out amongst the fauna. On exceptionally bright days, she will paint a black bar across
    her face, covering her eyes.
1 Waterskin
1 Backpack which contains:
1 Set of Toiletries (comb, brush, razor, soap)
Food for a week - Goat Jerky / Salted Goat Meat
