Taloba, home to the Myrians, is the thriving core of Falyndar. Inhabited by a fierce and savage tribe where blood sacrifices are normal and a way of life, they are untamed and proud of it. Warlike, and with their numbers growing, the Myrians are set on reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. [Lore]

The Tattooing Stalls

Image

The Myrians are well-known for their tattooing abilities. The race as a whole loves bodywork, be it tattoos, body paint, ritual scarring... they like it all. These marks are not only for decoration, either - each of these has a serious personal meaning to the wearer. Coming of age, accomplishments, family ties, personal events, battle... all of these, and more, are marked on the living canvas. A Myrian's tattoos tell a story.

Because of the rich plants that grow in their out of control region, the Myrians have and create vibrant inks in any number of colours... including some expensive ones that actually glow in the dark. The large tattoos can be painful and very elaborate, especially if the artist doesn't bother with something to numb the pain. Some will, some won't, depending on whom they are working on, the nature of their work, and how much they want to spend.

There are a number of Myrians who practice tattooing in the Trading Square, spread out though they may be, and many of the stalls or shops are similar. There's often a bench, a stool, a chest of supplies, and occasionally, a bunch of samples of their art. For some of the artists that operate in the trading square... see below.

The cost of a tattoo is usually dependent on what the customer wants. A smaller tattoo with regular ink might cost about 2 bikka, and an elaborate full-sleeve arm tattoo closer to 10 bikka. Extras like anesthetics, glowing ink, and so on, cost more. Body dye, being temporary and less time-consuming, is much cheaper, ranging from a single bikka for an arm to maybe 4 bikka for the entire body. Scarification, while painful and time-consuming, may cost anywhere from a single bikka (enhancing a scar that already exists), to 10 bikka.

The NPCs

Secret :

Mechu of the Slitted Throat: Scarification Artist
A tall woman of around 50 years or more with light brown skin and her hair worn in hundreds of tiny braids, Mechu is one of the more prominent scarification artists in Taloba. Being of the Slitted Throat family, she has an enormous tattoo across her neck, emulating a throat that has been cut. She has two tiger-striping bands on her arms, one tattooed in... and the other one scarred in - her own work. Mechu's time is often high in demand, although she does have a few apprentices who work with her. A former warrior, Mechu has extensive knowledge of the flesh and body, and her specialty is enhancing scars won in battle. She has a number of scars on her arms and face. It's not unusual to find her relaxing in her stall with an old tiger resting by her feet.

Zuuk of the Slitted Throat: Scarification Apprentice
One of Mechu's grandsons, Zuuk has been taken on by his grandmother to learn her art. He's only thirteen, and as such, is preparing for his coming-of-age as well as his time in the military. Tall for his age, and quite lean, Zuuk has the same throat-tattoo of his grandmother, and wears his hair in a mohawk. On his calf is a large scar that looks like it had been caused by a deep bite. Zuuk's work is somewhat limited to less elaborate jobs. He's fairly cheap, seeing as he is learning and getting experience. He is supervised by Mechu.

Neshka of the Deep Mists: Tattooist
Neshka is one of the tattoo artists who ply her trade in the Trading Square. She often does a lot of the work commissioned for the celebratory tattoos, which are gifts - the coming-of-age, the tiger's stripes, and so on. She is in her early thirties, and of average height for a Myrian. Neshka wears her long hair in warrior's knots, and is sometimes accompanied by her infant, who usually spends a good portion of the day sleeping. She sports a number of her own tattoos on her body. Neshka loves to barter.
