Concept

Raif suffers from a pretense of being humble while everything about him commands attention. Quietly confident to the point of youthful arrogance, some have suggested that his relentless courage stems from a lack of definable intelligence. This, naturally, could not be further from the truth. He is brash, virile, and everything else one might suspect when dealing with an Endal, but there is a cold and calculating mind that resides beneath the surface. Unafraid to command any subordinate to do his will or task them with something perilously suicidal if the colony requires it, there is an almost insidious method behind his façade of assertion. Very few, unfortunately, ever get the chance to see it.

Those who know of Raif’s reputation in the lower castes stay well away from him, fearful that his lecherous eye might become fixed. Reputed for charming women to warm his bed on cold evenings and starting brawls that end in death over meager affairs, Raif has swallowed the poison of his power and attained an appetite for it. The command of his station has given him many gifts, none of which he believes has been squandered thanks to a very cutthroat outlook on life. There are very few that Raif would trust with his own mortality, his independence giving him strength at times but also alienating him at others.

The loss of a cherished sibling has chilled his nerves in recent times, narrowing the range of his emotions to fits of anger he keeps thinly veiled beneath each iris. So very few have seen an actual outburst from Raif that entails his vocal sentiments, though many have witnessed a physically brutal manifestation in light of its absence. Surprisingly, for most men not on his black list, he has become somewhat of a model in masculinity to aspiring younger generations.

History

Raif’s chronicle began in the four hundred and eighty seventh year after the Valterrian, during the primordial days of spring, when permafrost still clung tenaciously to the earth, and flying was all but reserved for the young and impetuous. He was the only son born of triplets, smaller by comparison to his twin sisters who were plump with fat and bone, and cried like banshees upon leaving their mother’s womb. No cry breached Raif’s lips in his first waking breaths, however, a wriggling mound of flesh with eyes curious to the world around them. It was a bad omen to dek parents that fostered superstitious beliefs, but at least the boy was alive.

Drudge status within the bowels of society did not afford him a great deal of charity in the earliest years of his youth, pawned off to other caring arms for attention while his parents were too busy being pressed against the walls of poverty to properly ingratiate him into the Inartan way of life. It was quickly realized that without a steady and correcting hand for guidance though, that Raif was wont to cause mischief.

He’d become a renowned escape artist from the nursery that raised him, living without a single thread of fear sewn into his bones. Oftentimes that fearlessness found him hobbling his way towards the aeries, a strong desire to catch glimpses of the massive birds of prey swooping down into the interior of their mountain home. Some were concerned that his precociousness would lead to a short and unfulfilled life, while others saw it as the makings of something far more profound.

As with all Inartan children, in Raif’s eighth year he and his sisters entered into the learning gallery, where their minds would be honed into serving a purpose for the greater good of the colony. None seemed more prepared for this than the boy whose will was already fixated on adventure. It was during his first few days, though, that the child born of Dek realized what it meant to be spawn of the lowest caste in society. Bullied, neglected, and at times beaten mercilessly, Raif gained a firm grasp of where his life was headed if things did not change soon. So rather than submit to being yet another lamentable product of his forebearers, the boy went in search of changing the stars dotting the sky.

His presence in the classroom changed drastically, leaving two sisters to wonder if their brother had not gone insane. Days would pass without so much a word from him, neither seen nor heard from until Raif returned completely unannounced; oftentimes covered in dirt and scratches. "Preparing," he would tell them, as though his mind were slowly slipping into darkness and that were all the explanation they needed. But as the days grew long and turned into seasons, Raif's body took on noticeable changes. Muscles were growing where there had been none before, fighting undernourishment and gaining a steady foothold in maintaining some air of athleticism.

Name: Mabiri (Deceased as of Spring 512AV)
Race: Inarta
Location: Wind Reach

Skills:
Medicine: 26
Herbalism: 15
Falconry: 9

Gnosis:
Healing - Rank 1 (Rak'keli)

Concept: Mabiri was a gentle soul who always put the needs of others before her own. More often than not one could find a sweet smile stuccoed to her face, a gesture which endeared many a heart to her innocence growing up. Of the three children born from Dek parents, she was the nurturer, a virtuous soul who took an immediate interest in the caring of the sick and injured once the children had ascended to Yasi. Very little in life seemed to trouble her, curiosities outweighing reservations, and it was not long until she found her niche. Lessons were learned with a stunning alacrity as Mabiri displayed a shrewd mind, gaining the acclaim of her superiors and becoming one of the top students in her field.

Upon her fifteenth birthday she was placed as an apprentice to an Avoran healer where she could further hone her ability, an anomaly considering how so very few drudges were ever elevated. Her status in the eyes of her peers would always be held to the fringes of society, however. Mabiri never once discriminated in whom she attended, each caste treated with the same love and care as the next. It was of little surprise then, that during this time Rak'keli took a strong interest in the girl and imbued her with the goddess' gift.

But at times her altruism saw her chastised by the hands of an Endal, societal rebuke for her disregard of custom. If it had not been for her brother's presence to stymie the blow as a fellow Endal himself, her punishment might have been more severe. For her brother, she was the beacon of light where all the good in the world flourished, a boulder standing against the rapids of life. When she died, so too did Raif's hope.

Name: Nyteri
Age: 25
Race: Inarta
Location: Wind Reach

Skills:
Observation: 26
Meditation: 14
Teaching: 10

Gnosis:
Divination - Rank 1 (Avalis)

Concept: Nyteri seems to possess a wisdom that exceeds the cusp of her mortal age, thoughtful of the world around her but no less outspoken when it comes to being an Inarta. Her observations on life always touch areas that lie beneath the skin, and she has become quite adept at figuring people out after a short conversation. Unlike most Inarta, Neyteri keeps her emotions uninvolved from conversation, her tone often impassive by nature. This has led to a few notable confrontations in the past, her vacant state only igniting the thickly steeped passions of her race into further outbursts of rage. If it were not for Raif's own bullying behavior and intervening hand, his sister's beauty would have been doubtlessly spoiled by various scars and broken bones.

Neyteri enjoys the outdoors most of all, places to reflect and meditate on all of life's questions high on her list of joys in life. It was through several of these meditations in fact, that she gained the attention of Avalis, a goddess not known to show consideration for any race other than those of her home. But through several encounters the two developed an understanding, and eventually the twin of Rak'keli gifted the young Inarta with her gnosis.

Since the death of Mabiri, Raif and Neytiri have avoided one another as much as possible. Working as a teacher in the Learning Gallery to educate the Yasi, her Chiet status has kept her mercifully far away from the aeries where her brother resides.
