45th of summer Even though both of his co-workers had learned of him being a mage not much had changed in his job. Though coren was quite surprised that the old man didn't throw him out in the streets with that excuse. Citing the fact that he was one of the few people who even thought about working here was good enough a reason to keep him there, no matter what the rumors said about him. So once again coren sat behind the desk, bored out of his skull as he was waiting for anybody to come in so he had something to do. After a few moments of waiting he decided that since he had that much time anyway, he could just as well pick up his old habit of practicing his glyphs, everybody knew he was a mage now anyway so he didn't need to hide it anymore. He took his well worn practice book out of one of the pockets lining the inside of his robe and flipped it to a blank page and reached towards the quill and inkwell standing on the desk. As he dipped the quill in the inkwell he thought about what kind of glyph he should create. Focus glyphs were slowly becoming second nature to him with how much he used them to help him anchor his projection. Maybe a storage sigil, his magic didn't loan itself very well to being stored at all, but it really couldn't hurt polishing that skill up a bit he might learn other magic's later. Maybe he could even try to design some other sigil's that incorporated the other types of glyphs He started like usual, drawing the octagon and the lines within that formed the focusing , he took his time with it, first putting eight dots on more or less the same distance and connected them with a straight line. After that he drew a line of all the corners of the octagon into the middle. The focusing glyph of the sigil was simple he used those quite often in his . He checked his work for any errors before he went on towards the next step. Drawing the Barrier that was supposed to contain the magic that went into the focus. Without it it would just absorb it before letting it leak out again. He slowly began drawing a light circle-like shape around his focus glyph. Or at least it was intended to be a circle. His unpracticed hand still couldn't get the shape completely right, but that didn't matter, it was more a guideline to keep the symbols that made them up straight. He dipped his quill again in the inkwell before he would go start add the many symbol's around it. Carefully drawing out the many intricate symbols was in all honesty, a pain. The fact he had to repeatedly check back in his book to see how they looked like only increased that feeling. Well, that was his fault for not practicing his glyph's as much as he should be doing it. When he finally finished drawing out the tangle of symbols around the circle he stretched out his fingers and shoulders. Having to sit hunched over a table really put a crick in his body. As he was stretching, his eye fell on one of the windows and more importantly the substantial amount of snow that was being blown against it. He quickly stood up from his stool and made his way over towards the door and opened it enough so that he could peer outside and get a look at the sky. As soon as he put his head outside of the door a cold blast of air whipped of his hood, while the falling of snow was steadily getting worse and worse. The vantha didn't need much to figure out what was going on, either it was a heavy snowstorm or a blizzard. He quickly pulled his head back inside and shut the door. He should tell his co-workers about it. If it turned out to be a blizzard they might be locked inside for a while. Coren made his way toward the empty office and walked to the door of the room where both of his coworkers were they repaired books. When he entered both of his coworkers looked up with a questioning glance, Felix immediately spoke up. “Coren, is there a problem of some kind?” Coren nodded. “A heavy snowstorm is setting in. Might even be a blizzard, so we might be stuck in here for a while.” Jack was the first one to speak up. “Lets hope it doesn't last to long, I'm not really that interested in spending a long time in the library without anything to eat in here” All the men inside the library knew exactly how long a blizzard could rage on out of their own experience. “Well, we all know what to do.” Felix began. “Jack, go see if you can see anybody who is still outside can be sheltered inside. Coren go close the shutters on the windows. I'll get a fire going in the office area and I'll close of the work area.” Felix gave the orders in such a calm and practiced manner it was as if he had done it a lot of times already. Which considering his age might not be that much of a stretch. It wasn't as if a blizzard in avanthal was that uncommon. |
