Timestamp: Fall 2, 512 Dex stretched out. His fur hat was such a great bed. But lately, things had been drafty. Ever since Howlwing had moved in with him, he had turned his forest blind which he'd meant to have for storage of shiny things, into a new room. Through a little bit of work, he'd dragged his fur hat out of the den, along with some of his stored snacks, and his shiny mizas. He'd had so many, from trading in some of the other shiny things he'd had. The hardest thing he'd learned, was that to get some shiny things, he had to give up others. But he could also get things from elsewhere, which he could then sell. However, he wasn't up for trading and switching shiny things. He was up for a different reason. But before he went on his adventure, he needed to get some morning things ready. Mainly, food. That, and waking up Howlwing. Howlwing liked to take awhile in the morning to take a bath. He pulled his body out of the fur hat and snuggled up next to her feathery wings. She'd complained for awhile when she went to sleep every night, probably at a lack of a comfy bed. However, that was easily fixed, especially with as many shiny things he had stashed around the place. He promised himself that he was going to have to get himself a second fur hat for her today. Dex nudged her gently, waking her up. She yawned, and blinked at him slowly, showing her acknowledgement of him. Sometimes she was so pompous. He scratched at the floor briefly, then took off out of the forest blind. The flap slid open as he pushed through, and then climbed down the tree. It was time for a hunt. Breakfast had come easily today. Rats had been running through some of the residential area's, and made easy fat prey. He brought two back for Howlwing, dropping it at the base of the tree for her, where she was stretching out her legs and wings, fluffing her feathers that had been compressed as she slept. As Dex brought the food to Howlwing, she touched noses with him, and then had her breakfast. He didn't always have to bring her breakfast, but whenever she was sleeping in he generally did. He waited patiently for her to finish, before they set off. Dex had a specific destination in mind today, a place that he'd heard of often. They called it "the sanctuary". Dex didn't know anything about it, but he was determined to check it out for fun. Now, he just had to find out where it was. Thank goodness for those funky signposts. Howlwing followed him from high above, almost 20 ft. She'd swoop and sway around, keeping track of Dex as he went down the road. To make it easier for both of them, Dex generally took rooftops. As he got closer though, it became more wooded, and Howlwing had to follow on foot to keep track of Dex. The two of them padded side by side down a small dirt road, which led to a large wooden fence. It went from left to right, as far as Dex could see ... which wasn't far. But the smells! He smelled ... manure ... grassy fields ... and some sort of animal that he couldn't identify, but it was strong ... and large. Howlwing and Dex poked their heads inside of the yard easily, the first crosswise wooden beam being about a foot above their heads. Apparently, the fence was designed to keep out, or maybe in, the really large creatures, and not small, cute little creatures such as themselves. They slowly padded inside the yard, keeping their senses totally alert. Then they started feeling the ground shake ... and it was getting worse as "something" came closer to them. And it was big. |
