The Courtyard

The Courtyard is the only open space within the Citadel, yet even so it is always filled with a strange, unnerving fog. Tombs and gravestones dot the entire area, and often voices or otherworldly calls can be heard upon the wind. Those who must venture here are recommend to stay on the crooked and winding path that courses through the middle of the area, for once one crosses the flimsy barrier of iron rods the residence of this area grow restless.

Sahova, as many well know, is not a place for the weak minded and weak hearted. Those who cannot survive the dangers of the island are buried here in the Courtyard if their bodies are too mangled to be used by the nuits as a host vessel. Often these spirits are restless, and find themselves trapped to this mortal realm for one reason or another. Some suspect that it is the mysterious caretaker that holds these vengeful spirits in place, but few have dared to question her.

Ghosts walk freely here, and those ghostly residence who come to Sahova quickly find themselves trapped in the courtyard as well. These sprits are often violent, vengeful and dangerous, and over the years the numbers of ghosts trapped here has steadily increased until those of Sahova gave up counting them all. A strange power keeps these ghosts at bay, yet from the feel of the air it is obvious that they are simply waiting for the chance to be set free and destroy everything around them. For the time being their wrath is held firmly at bay, and the citizens of Sahova have little to fear aside from creepy whispers and the occasional touch of the ghostly sort.

Mistress Wanda is the caretaker of the Courtyard, a nuit whom even makes some of the oldest Wizards of Sahova uneasy. She alway wears the appearance of an old women well past her prime. Often outsiders describe her as a hag in appearance, calling her the Witch of the Courtyard, and she has well earned her nick name. Within her command is every ghost within these forsaken grounds, and she holds sway over them with an iron fist. It was she that laid down the protective barriers that keep the ghost contained within the Courtyard, and it was she that sealed them to their bones in the first place.

Unlike the rest of the nuits in Sahova, Mistress wanda did not come to Sahova as a member of the ARMED project. She arrived on the island some time before the great Citadel was erected, and it is said that she brought with her spirits from her journeys around the world. She claimed the area of the Courtyard as her own early on, taking a liking too it for its natural aura that draws ghosts to it. The Council of Five allow Mistress Wanda to do as she likes for the most part, and in return she offers them her advice in the ways of Spiritism and ghosts.

Wanda rarely speaks to anyone but the ghosts that always surround her, and when she does give her attention to anything besides the spirits she only converses sparingly. With nuits she may offer a bit more genuine conversation, but to pulsers she rarely, if ever, even dignifies them with a response. She cares little for the living, and barely offers any interest in the undead as well. She possesses an aura of confidence, and an erie way about her ways of moving and talking that often leaves chills running up the spines of those not used to her mannerisms. Some say that the ghosts have rubbed off on her, and indeed the air does seem to grow colder when she is around, though that may be the hundreds of ghosts that trail in her wake...

OOCThis location is free to play in. It holds no danger for PC's as long as the wards are up and Wanda is present. Its maintenance is seen to constantly, so at most the ghost might try to grab at or tug your players clothing or hair :)
