She wears light colored breeches, Character Concept o Personality: Lya or Lyanin is rather aloof to those who know and don't know her, and often she keeps a solemn watch over company rather than joining in the conversation herself. This part of her nature is in part created from her shyness, though most would not pinpoint such a character trait within her. Rather, most individuals would make note of her abrasive, unswerving, passionate nature; by default, Lya is a contradictory character. One moment she can become the leader of the group and make decisions in times of stress, but should she step out of this role where others depend upon her, she seems to eek out her existence under the radar. She has an extremely strong reverence towards all things nature, and often comments on the cycle of life and can sort out situations through this viewpoint. Of the relationships she makes, she instills loyalty above all else, because that is what she gives. Her upbringing with her mother's people, the Chaktawe, and her upbringing with her father's people, the Drykas, have deeply instilled a sense of loyalty and connection to blood and community, though she is known to drift in her attempts to find something to latch onto. Those who come to her for advise, as many do, will find a compassionate, understanding, but honest ear; Lya does not sugarcoat her advise, in what she sees as a way to truly aid the person. Through both upbringings, Lya has become a very brave, reliable individual, one with an honest heart. She can often be seen wandering around in nature, trying to stay in tune with everything as she keeps to herself. When it all comes down to it, Lya has a complex personality, one which constantly contradicts and redeems itself. o Ethics - Above all else, honesty and straight-forwardness matters to Lyanin. She sticks to this, and lends a just ear to any who may need it. Unfortunately, her lack of solid identity has also made Lyanin abide by another self law- trust only when proven trustworthy. This makes her a hard person to get close to. She is also unswervingly faithful to her loved ones, sometimes to the point of bringing harm to herself. Religious viewpoint: As a Chaktawe female, Lyanin prays to Makutsi, but when she began to live with her father she began to also pay homage to Caiyha. Overall, she is a very spiritual person and believes that all things have their reasons. o Likes - Running. This her first a foremost hobby, something she follows with an unusual passion and discipline. There is nothing better to her than the wind in her hair, the sand beneath her feet, or the long grass tickling her thighs. She enjoys rising early in the mornings to run, just about anywhere, often seen with her dog by her side or her Strider beneath her hips. As a part of the Kalanue, she is naturally athletic and clever. Honesty. Pretty much, if individuals are forthright and genuine with Lyanin, she will have some sort of respect for them. Due to her Drykas nature, she must respect others in order to obey their authority or not question individuals motives or statements. Nature/Animals. Even before she was brought to the clans of the Drykas by her father, Lyanin formed a strong connection with animals and nature. She would often spend her days with a hawk she had trained for desert hunt, or watch the herds of wild Eyktolian desert horses gallop across the dunes. Upon entering the Emerald clan, her father's clan, her love of animals was nurtured further. At a tender age of eight, one of the wilder Striders chose her, and from then on she was an accepted member of the clan. She also acquired a hunt dog, which she trains with diligently to this day. Assertiveness. o Dislikes - Dishonesty. If somebody lies to her, Lyanin has a very difficult time respecting that individual, even if they somehow manage to redeem themselves. Cowardice. Lyanin can tolerate this quality in women, barely, but when she finds it in men it really just irks her to no end. Benshira: During a confrontation with these shepherds, her mother was killed in front of her eyes. She tries not to hate all of the Benshira for this, but some of the time she finds herself wanting to beat them to a pulp. There is some understanding that her mother's death was partially an accident, but Lyanin still feels such an accident was uncalled for. Cruelty to Animals. Like most Drykas, she finds cruelty to animals to be the highest offense possibly made. If she sees this in any shape or form, she is likely to start some sort of confrontation, or intervene in some way on the animals' behalves. Wasting Water. Growing up in the desert has made Lyanin extremely aware of water intake, and seeing water wasted needlessly, even when it is in surplus, really just irritates her. Character History Lyanin's mother, Sitala, was an extremely curious member of the Chaktawe peoples, and this curiosity led her to meeting Lyanin's father, Callahan, a Drykas traveling. Both were young and foolish, and fell in love with one another, and through this love Lyanin was created. While Drykas tried to tempt Sitala to return with him to his Pavillion and clan to birth the child, Sitala refused. Slipping away in the darkness of night, and with the fleet and silent feet of her kind, she returned to her people and disappeared from Callahan's life. This is how Lyanin came to live with the Chaktawe people, her mother's people. Her mother taught her great strength, and knowledge, allowing Lyanin to learn the ways of her people. Here she learned how to be stealthy, and quick on her feet. When Lyanin was seven she accompanied her mother to the redstone formations to help her catch goats, but it was here that they encountered Benshira's also looking for wild stock. A fight broke out between the Benshira and the Kelanue, and during the chaos Sitala was killed. While her people did not send Lyanin away, her different breeding began to really differentiate her from the rest of her people and they became increasingly distant. Eventually one of the young men was sent away to search out her biological father, and once found her father was brought to her. The first meeting between father and daughter was not what most would call normal, for both spent quite some time sizing each other up. Lyanin with her big, round eyes looking up from beneath her lashes, her small, wiry, coppery complexion every bit the opposite of her father. Callahan, with his narrow, sharp eyes, swarthy build, pale skin and wavy head of brown hair accessing the child for the first time. Neither believed their relationship, until Callahan spotted the iron-knotted pendant strung on a leather throng around Lyanin's throat, the one he had given to her mother before she disappeared from his life. Her father accepted Lyanin into his Pavillion and heart quicker than Lyanin did herself. He was a strict but fair man with raising her, even when she was only one amongst a sea of wives and children he had acquired after her mother. But her mother had been the first, and his love for her mother was ever-apparent in the way he always showed Lyanin special attention. While it took her a while to warm up to the new environment and new people, Lyanin found her niche as well as she could and grew up the rest of the way amongst the Drykas, neither one of them nor one of the Chaktawe anymore. At eight her Strider chose her, a tall buckskin stallion with a hearty demeanor. From then on she was glued to her horse's back, running, or training her dog. As she grew into womanhood she began to garner eyes from the Drykas men, men looking to pick her up as either a first wife or one of a series. For a while her father continued to spoil her, humor her, and did not force her to take a husband even when she hit her 20s. But after years of badgering from his wives, sons, and other daughters, Callahan began to pressure Lyanin more to find a suitable husband. He promised that he could make a large enough dowry to get her an apt enough husband, but Lyanin's heart could not be swayed. Not to mention her prospects as a bride were very dim, being a half breed, and if she wished to find a husband which she herself could also approve of, she knew she would have to go abroad. Despite her love for her father, and for the Drykas people, she knew she could not settle down. Like some spirited young women do, Lyanin separated herself from her family with the promise to return someday with a suitable husband. They needn't know that this was not her priority, that her real reason was to travel and learn more.
