Unexpected Hunting

20th, Fall, 512AV - 22:00
Somewhere in the Sea of Grass

SLASH! a blade tore through the muscles of an olidosapux's neck and blood splurted out, covering the forearm of Daishira. Satisfaction rushed through him in line with the adrenaline of hunting game.

"Fall is the hunting season," Kai had told him.

She's standing just behind him right now, covering Daishira in case anything out of control happens. After all, he was unexperienced, but hopefully, Kai would get him up to speed with all this, and the Drykas way of life, in general.

Daishira looked back at Kai and made a facial expression saying, Good?

Unexpected Hunting

Kai had never been afraid of blood. And though the final screech of the creature shook her heart a little, she was very practical when it came to hunting. After all, she was a Drykas. This ran in her blood and the blood of her family.

"You swing that blade like a stick." she laughed. "A kill with such fury has no chance of failure."

A bow firmly grasped in her hand, an arrow at her side. She came closer, minding to not get blood on her clothing. She produced a small handkerchief from the inside of her cloak to wipe the blood off Daishira a little. In the distance Papus had trotted towards them, shaking her luscious mane.

Kai had sneaked out that night. She had not been hunting for a very long time, and what better time to disobey her father indeed.

Unexpected Hunting

Postby Daishira on November 2nd, 2012, 8:58 pm

"We shall move on then?" Daishira said, eager to chase down the rest of the pack.

The olidosapux were slow compared to the pair of hunters, they were bulky and had a lot of meat on them. Fat and slow, they were the perfect game. They also moved in packs, so the one that Daishira has taken down was just a straggling lone one falling behind the rest of its pack, which proved fatal.

Daishira moved a little forward, knelt down and smelt the air. With the scent of this kill acquired, his acute sniffing abilities (coming from being a wolf Kelvic) came in useful for tracking down the rest of the pack.

Daishira turned to Kai again and said, "The pack are actually quite a long way away. I can catch them in a few minutes probably, if I transform. You can ride on your horse to match the speed."

He saw a patch of long, hip-high grass in his peripheral vision that could be used as privacy, as Kai would probably not want to see him naked just yet.

A rosy blush and a giggle passed over Kai's face. "You do that. And once you're done I'll pack up your belongings into my Yvas so you don't just leave them here." she said, kneeling by the fallen animal and beginning to carve it up with the large knife she stole from her father's chest. She had little experience with the tool, for it was always her elder brothers who did this. But someone had to remove the best meat from the olidosapux. "But let's not kill to many. One or two more maximum. Papus also has to carry me back home remember. And I don't want the load to bear too greatly on her speed."

Unexpected Hunting

Postby Daishira on November 2nd, 2012, 9:22 pm

With a curt nod, Daishira left his knife on the ground and leaped into the tall grass. After a quick rustle, his clothes were tossed out and shortly after, rays of light erupted from the grass lasting only a second. What sprung back out was a large wolf of the same coloured hair and eyes of the human form of Daishira. Now though, his large teeth were made more prominent when he bared them. His pointed ears shifted to the top of his head. His arms and legs became similar in structure and he was of course on all fours. Although he could not speak Common anymore, he able to recognise it, and can still follow Kai's commands.

He looked to Kai, who was putting his stuff away and taking the meat of the game, and patiently waited for her.

When Kai was finally ready she lifted her self onto Papus, having to jump to be able to do so for the mare was so large. Comfortably holding the horse between her knees, she grabbed the reigns and turned her towards Daishira who was now a beautiful wolf. Without wasting a second to marvel upon the Kelvic, she elegantly kicked Papus into a slight trot.

"we'll be right behind you." she said to her companion.

"We'll be right behind you," Kai said.

Daishira bowed his head to resemble a human nod and dashed off after the scent of the pack. Hearing Papus' hooves behind him gave Daishira confidence. We will have plenty of meat after tonight.

Before long, he spotted the backsides of the large animals. He halted suddenly. Springing out a single claw from his paw, Daishira drew in the dirt a large circle, then two smaller circles behind them. Arrows from the smaller circles went opposite directions horizontally, then arched round until they met at the large circle. He was trying to make out a flanking tactic, as this would ensure two kills easily. One for Daishira, one for Kai. He was confident in both his speed and Papus' speed. As the only real way for the animals to escape from their predators is to hear them coming early and try to run or attack, speed would be necessary.

Daishira looked up at Kai, checking she had understood what he was trying to demonstrate in his quick sketch.

Kai watched as the wolf drew circles in the dirt. She wasn't confident that she properly understood his tactic, but if worst came to worst she would just have to improvise right? The only thing that worried her more was that she wasn't a great shot at all. She had a bow indeed and a fine one at that. But not often did she actually use it, which led to a terrible decline in her skill as of late. Weaving seemed to halt her progress in pretty much everything.

Perhaps this was a good time to let her companion know this. "I'm not so skilled with the bow Daishira." she whispered. An evening breeze came from the direction on the prey and hit them straight in the face. Nature was on their side, but Kai's confidence was lacking.

"I'm not so skilled with the bow Daishira." Kai whispered.

Daishira listened and thought initially that maybe this plan wouldn't work. But then again, he could easily take on two olidosapai, so we would continue with the plan anyway. With this thought, Daishira shrugged in a manner that said, Doesn't matter. He glanced once more towards the herd and sprinted off towards the left side.

The air rushed through his nostrils along with the increasing strength of the game's odour. His messy fur leaned backwards due to the resistance of the wind and his paws struck the earth beneath like lightning with every step.

Unexpected Hunting

Kai and Papus mirrored his movements, galloping for the other side of the heard. The speed unmatched by many, despite the heavy yvas which dangled annoyingly. Her bow and arrow at hand, controlling the horse with her knees only. Riding was in her blood. The bond with Papus was so strong that she no longer needed hands to ride.

The animals became very aware of their presence indeed and one by one, they began to flee.
