Character Concept

Current as of Winter 512 AV

As much as any other Drykas, Aidus is a proud man, fiercely defendant of his people and of his pavilion. The priests of the Moondirge Pavilion perform important rites for the people of Endrykas. Aidus happily offers his skills on the drum to any ceremonies which require it. He demands the utmost respect be displayed during any of the rites, and anyone acting contrary to his wish will find the normally calm Drykas unleashing a vicious temper.

Constantly striving to learn more, he is full of questions, and is completely willing to share of the knowledge he holds. He recognizes the importance of improving himself in every way if he is to inherit his father's place as Ankal. The Moondirges serve many in Endrykas, and running such a group would take more than Aidus is currently able to give. Adding to any worry about becoming the new leader is the current health of his father. The deadly pox began in Fall of 512 AV has severely weakened Ankal Rusos, causing fear for his survival. As a result, he quickly becomes annoyed when his abilities are called into question as he fears having to take over before he is ready.

Aidus strongly desires to find a wife, but his about becoming an ankal are eclipsed only by his fears of not being a strong enough husband. His father seems to have never forgiven himself for the loss of Aidus' mother, and the thought of losing someone so important paralyzes the Drykas man more than the prospect of staring down a glassbeak. So for now, he finds himself unsure frequently when interacting with the fairer sex. As a man of his position and age, he does, however, realize the importance of finding wives, and would likely wed out of need if it came down to it.

The ankal's son has an almost obsession with the collection of bones. His father taught him the wonders of Malediction, and Aidus was hooked immediately. Bringing forth the power of that which has passed on to serve in a way which can never be truly controlled or anticipated gave him a rush, and chime after chime, bell after bell, day after day was spent by the man carving, painting, and searching for the perfect bone with which to create wonders.

To truly feel prepared to lead his people, Aidus will often go off to meet with those various cultures and races which the people of Endrykas trade with on a yearly basis.

History Prior to Winter, 512 AV

Born in death, Aidus' mother returned to the web as her fragile body was unable to bear the burden of childbirth. Raised by his father's second and third wives, it had little known effect on Aidus' life, though he'd been told his father carried a grief despite his preaching that one needed to move on after the passing of a loved one.

Aidus was spared little when it came to his training, but focus there never truly was. The heir to a pavilion had to hold many skills, and of the Moondirge pavilion, there were many requisites. As a result, the child often found himself stretched too thin, never being allowed time to excel at any one thing. Regardless, many things caught his interest, to include drawing, painting, carving, and music. His father found use for all of them. His drums back the Moondirge rites, and his artistry, well, those sang to the bones. Malediction was something his father was decently skilled at, guarding the secrets of how to do it from most of the pavilion. His son showed too much promise, however, and was brought into the mystic art.

Spring of 509 AV is when Aidus met Moyi. A beautiful Cyphrus Strider. Aidus knew instantly that she was his, and he hers, and together they would ride the grasslands together. Finally, a full Drykas, he received his windmarks and could now realistically be considered for taking his father's pavilion when that day came. Winter of that same year, Aidus and his father decided it was time for him to experience some of the world around them so that when it came time for him to lead, he had more knowledge and wisdom from which to draw from.

His journeys led him to to Eyktol, where he would learn about the cultures that the Drykas would deal with as they passed by during the winter season. What became a learning experience for Aidus quickly changed into a love of the desert. What was meant to be but a tick, turned into chimes, which turned into bells, days, and seasons. Before he knew it, seven seasons had passed since he'd left. A guilt set upon him heavily, and a decision was made to make his way back to Endrykas. He would meet them in winter and return to his life as a Moondirge.

Aidus would learn that life had a way of doing what it wanted. He became hopelessly lost during this trek home, wandering in the desert what seemed an eternity. When he was found in the Burning Lands by a group of Chaktawe, he was all but dead, a shell of his former self, and Moyi had since passed on. Slowly, the Chaktawe would nurse him back to health, but before he was even capable of standing, he knew he was too shamed to return to Endrykas yet.

Winter 512AV
The Chaktawe caring for him mysteriously disappear, as Kalasse, one of their kind stumbled upon him, their own journey beginning.
