Birthday & Age : 12th of Summer AV 488 (21 years of age)

Physical Description

Deep brown hair, grown out like all of Raeya’s people is kept in various tendril braids all around her head. Some small beaded braids, hung with the colors clan, hang around her face and at the back of her head, while larger ones loop haphazardly at the back of her neck, sometimes dipping down to her neck. The Drykas has lively green eyes centered in her tanned features, and stands at the above average height of 5’8” weighing around 130 lbs.

Character Concept

Life is harsh upon the Sea of Grass, yet its ways can be infinitely rewarding. Raeya cannot understand the mannerisms of people in cities, and why anyone would choose to live there, closed in, crowded, and devoid of the open spaces she has loved since she could crawl in them. The weak and stupid die fast in the Sea of Grass, Raeya is neither of these things, but still holds a child-like sense of adventure about the world. Rarely without a smile, and rarely backing down from a challenge, she is a spirited individual, and works for the betterment of her people.

Character History

Life began for the Drykas, in the Emerald clan under the stewardship of two loving parents. Surrounded by large hunting animals, and horses the child grew to love animals as many of her people have, learning to hunt and teach the large cats and dogs they trained. It was when the girl was 8 that she had her first true trial, and this was a collective Glassbeak attack upon her Pavilion. She was hidden in away on the plains, sent with a few older children and a string of their horses to wait, and when the screams from human and bird alike had disappeared, and an eerie night had fallen upon the Sea, the children dared to go back, to find their parents and older siblings torn apart. To this day the Drykas cannot explain the freak gathering of Glassbeaks that must have numbered 15-20, though there are always tales about the clan slaying a particularly large and veterened alpha male, and upsetting the surrounding packs of Glassbeaks, but the birds have never been known to have enough unity to actually try to gain revenge for a single death, and so the stories seem ill founded.

After this night, regardless of the reasons of the happening, the children made their way to the nearest pavilion, now being orphans. The Pavilion welcomed them, but couldn’t accept all of the 16 children, and so communicated with other nearby pavilions. As news spread of the harrowing attack on their people, Raeya was taken in by an Aunt and Uncle that were part of the diamond clan.

It was hard at first, for the young Drykas, being with completely new children, never being able to see her parents again, and some of her favorite horses and cats. Here she was an outcast, not truly of their clan, and not able to earn inclusion from the Diamond clan children, nor the overall approval of their parents, who did not see a child of hunters and meat driers as being fit to belong in their warrior clan. So Raeya was left with only one option, and that, was excelling at her duties as a Drykas.

Horse riding was a universal skill, that was respected throughout all clans, and so the child started there. She took what she knew from her parents, from her former pavilion members and used it to help her clan mates, preparing meals, drying food to be stored for long winter months, helping to train and aid in logging breeding records for guardian animals her clan used, and continuing to learn with a bow. This was a weapon she had begun using at home, and continued her training in now, but above all the other tasks she trained in, there was riding. At 16 the Drykas received her Windmarks after a dun Strider foal followed her more readily then he would his mother. She dubbed the Strider with a black streak on his forehead, Morningstar, and horse and girl were nigh inseparable after that.

There are other stories to tell of how the Diamond clan came to look fondly upon its spirited orphan, how she earned her respect and a place among her people, but they will be told in time, and you have other tales to read.
