Irowyn Jaines

Postby Irowyn on November 18th, 2012, 6:15 pm

Name: Irowyn Jaines
Race: Human
Age: 32
Birthday: Fall 28, 480AV

Physical
Irowyn stands at 6'3, almost impossibly muscular and sporting unkempt, dark brown hair. He wears decorated, studded leather boots and dyed hide armor over his lower body. The custom designs seem to be influenced from Jamouran culture and from the styles of Taldera.

Character Concept
Irowyn is an adept warrior who is in extraordinary physical condition and has mastered greatsword combat techniques. But he shouldn't be a warrior. Irowyn shouldn't fit that description. He has no place on the battlefield. He shouldn't be very athletically inclined and he shouldn't know how to swing a sword. The fact of the matter is that destiny simply didn't give him that gift. Irowyn was meant for a more simple life. Maybe he was to be a skilled smith or perhaps a courageous explorer. Unfortunately, his destiny was never to become a warrior. He chose that path (and all of the demons which came with it) on his own.

Irowyn was unfortunate enough to become witness to a terrible tragedy. After this great loss, he worked ferociously toward attaining justice. What does "justice" mean? When will he feel like he has achieved this righteous retribution? Well, therein lies the very problem. Irowyn's loss instilled, in him, a great sense of discipline and focus. The warrior is extremely determined to achieve his goal. Unfortunately, he's not really sure what that goal is or how to move forward. He is filled with passion to no end. Its passion for passion's sake.

So what it simply comes down to is this: Irowyn was born a scrawny weakling. He was only able to achieve his combat prowess through unhealthy obsession. After his tragedy his mind shattered. His physical training was compulsive and arduous, his study of the battlefield was exhaustive to the point of sapping any joyous fascination from his learning. A healthy Irowyn could never hold his own against an armed combatant. His combat advantage is an irreparable mental and emotional defect. Those who know of him sing of his courage and bravery. What they fail to realize is that bravery has nothing to do with it. This, frankly, is compulsion.

To this day, Irowyn suffers from panic attacks. He doesn't panic for his own safety. It's not even, necessarily, the safety of others which triggers his attacks. It could be argued that he doesn't have a clear, black and white trigger. But the connecting factor is control of the situation. Overwhelming concepts of fate, a lack of free-will, chaos and generally not being in control of the situation. These are the things that can occasionally trigger Irowyn's panic attacks.

None of this is to say that Irowyn is downright "unhappy." Certainly, he is haunted and it would be inaccurate to say that he is happy. Still, he is almost never outwardly gloomy and he is not even consciously aware of his demons (let alone to make any effort to defeat them.) No, his emotional trauma doesn't manifest in his mood. It manifests in the bizarre way that he interprets justice and common law.

He is obsessed with protecting the innocent. More so, he is obsessed with the hypothetical concept of who gets to live and who gets to die. He holds bitter hatred toward Dira and any of her followers. Unrest with the randomness and the chaos of death lies in the forefront of his tumultuous, confused mind.

To this end, he will drop everything to preserve innocent life should he ever come across such a person in danger. That being said, he feels no deep-seated sense of empathy or generosity. He wants to help people as much as any fellow person. However, his extraordinary decisions are born more from a constant fight against death than they are from a notable sense of charity. In fact, Irowyn would consider taking fatal action against an unarmed pauper should that pauper be responsible for the death of another in any way except unfortunate accident.

Character History
Irowyn grew up in a small human neighborhood in Syliras. Since childhood he had always wanted to explore the world. As he approached manhood, Irowyn was permitted a time to travel to across a small section of the world. He toured the cities of Ahnatep, Akvatar, Lisnar and Zeltiva before returning home.

This trip changed him for life. After being exposed to so much of Mizahar, he knew that he could never be content in the same place for too long. Of course, he had no aversion to his family and hometown. He made sure to stop home for a month or two between expeditions. He could never stay long, however, before the desire to explore some new unknown lands began to surface. He and a group of fellow travelers ended up in Sunberth for what was meant to be a short preparation period between trips. The group sought to explore a swath of Falyndar, just near the Myrian city of Taloba. Needless to say, pulling off such a secretive journey required a few shady characters in Sunberth.

What happened that week was a tragedy in which Irowyn saw his entire traveling party wiped out. He was spared but this was the event which broke him. This was the catalyst for his mental illness. Irowyn simply couldn't return home after this. He couldn't face any of the people whom he loved. When the story reached his hometown he was blamed for the loss of life.

As the sole survivor, it was assumed that Irowyn only survived the ordeal through cowardice and hiding. Although not a distinctly militant culture, Irowyn's family and friends still maintained a strong sense of honor and pride. He was all essentially shunned after the events in Falyndar.

Afterward he would continue traveling from city to city but he would do so while training obsessively for the day that he would seek justice. Vrlock, the human wizard who had done this, already lay dead and dead by Irowyn's hand, even. Therefore, this wasn't a focused mission of revenge. Instead, Irowyn just...trained. He trained obsessively and prepared to the spend the rest of his life in combat. This is when Irowyn first began to suffer from his panic attacks.
