42nd of Fall, AV 512
Elem chose his room as the place to study more often than not, now that he had access to the Library. In his opinion, while it was fortunate that he wasn't interrupted during his study sessions, that wouldn't always be the case. With Winter coming, the denizens of the Sanctuary would more than likely be seeing more and more of each other. It was fortunate that the Within was so expansive, thanks to Kavala, but it might not seem so big with most of the members on top of each other.
His room was his own, however, and with the space he had, Elem intended to make the most of it. The stately bureau and wardrobe which were already present in the room had been moved down to the foot of the bed, leaving the southern wall free. The western was his bed, the eastern was the space where he exercised. He moved his shelf set and desk he had brought from Zeltiva up to the southern wall, as he was trying to create a workspace of sorts, should the lab be occupied. The thought brought a snarky grin to his face, as outside of himself and Serrif, he didn't recall seeing anyone in there. It made for a good deal of work for them, but on the bright side, it left it open for experimentation and practice.
Seated before his desk, having borrowed a chair from the library, another sadly unused resource, Elem sat looking at a flickering candle before him. His finger traced over his previous notes about Shielding and it was time to start putting the theories to work. To the left of the candle, a blank piece of paper sat, as if waiting for Elem to begin. Placing his thumbs to his forefingers and then each hand together, he centered the configuration of fingers at the top center of the page. Focusing on the small pinhole space between the fingers, Elem saw something akin to an oily smudge on top of water. It shifted slightly and had a prismatic sheen to it.
Slowly, his focus remaining solid on the expanding strand of Djed, he moved his fingers across the top of the sheet until each two fingers was at the top corners of the page. It looked as if he were pulling a fibrous strand apart, which was the only way he could imagine it in his infancy as a Wizard.Moving down from each corner, the pace slow and torturous, Elem watched as the strand flattened into a sheet of oily energy. It took paramount concentration to keep the Djed field intact and even, his focus remaining on slding the sheet to the bottom of the page.
Once finished, he brought his fingers back toward the bottom center until they met, a multicolor sheen before him overlaying the parchment. Elem was afraid to move his fingers, fearing the work would disappear, so he just stared at it for a while, the chaotic pattern of the candle's flicker a bit mesmerizing.
