A p p e a r a n c e . . . Ajna stands approximately 5’5” and weighs around 120 pounds. Her frame is built lithe from the harsh living conditions of the Drykas ways. Cyphrus has made a fine woman of her, strong and persistent, always active and working to finish whatever needs to be done. Her hair is long and thick, as gold as grain. It falls in a tangled mess of thick waves and curls with a few hidden braids with white and silver beads. Some days it may be found wound tight upon the back of her head to keep it out of her face. Her skin is a rosy-gold, but by no means fair. A light smattering of freckles litter the tops of her shoulders and back, and a couple stray ones mark her cheeks and nose, barely noticeable. Accompanying these freckles comes a more noticeable array of scars from sparring, hunting, working, etc. Two thin eyebrows arch high over a set of ever-wary, rather fiery blue eyes with tendrils of sea green snaking through them. Thin, heart-shaped lips curve below a dainty little nose. She is currently without Windmarks. |
H i s t o r y & C o n c e p t The dawn of the sixth day of fall in the year 486 AV brought with it a fierce, unrelenting thunderstorm. In its wake came also the birth of a wheaten-haired Drykas baby girl to the Morningstorm Pavilion of the Diamond Clan, a fitting scenario. Born healthy and effervescent, Ajna was the last child born to the third and youngest wife of the Pavilion’s Ankal. She was not planned, as the family did not think that the woman was able to bear any children. For some unknown reason, her mother resented her birth, in a way. The other women of the Pavilion more or less took the mothering responsibilities to raise Ajna, especially the first wife. Growing up as a member of the Diamond Clan, she was trained to shoot a bow and wield a sword, to become a warrior. Her father taught her the art of the sword, while one of the other wives honed her skill with the bow. Ajna’s passion for both weapons began to grow and flourish, and she worked diligently on improving her abilities as she grew. When she was ten years of age, her father’s first wife was lost due to long-term illness. The loss devastated Ajna, as she was closer to the woman than she was her actual mother. Making the situation worse, the third wife – Ajna’s mother – too, caught the sickness, and passed just over three seasons later. Said losses at such an early age hardened her over the years, as she had to learn to pick up more responsibilities to help support her family. Her prime interests and drive became focused on her fighting skills, so that she may protect and serve her Pavilion and people in any which way that would be needed. She disregarded any and all non-work related activities, and soon became closed off from most of her usual free-time interests. At the age of twenty, now a woman of few words, Ajna became frustrated with her lack of a Strider. Everyone around her bonded with a Strider and bore proud Windmarks, but Anja was still void of both. Though she loved the horses and often spent time around them when not out on the plains hunting or practicing with bow or sword, nothing clicked. The same year brought with it another loss, that of the second wife, to a glassbeak attack on the plains. Wrought with frustration and dismay over the misfortune befalling her Pavilion, Ajna strove to work harder, immersing herself in the one thing to keep her mind focused. Other members of her family, the older children, seemed to have befallen another curse. Two of the men had departed the Pavilion for what Ajna considered irresponsible, irrelevant, disloyal reasons. They had gone out to on searches for faith, travel, or wealth. She was irritated that they could have so easily turned their backs on their family, for that was how she saw it, when her father was growing older and would need a replacement for his Pavilion. Her worse fear, the failure or falling of her Pavilion, seemed to be drawing nearer with each and every passing season. After she turned twenty-two, one of the other children, a daughter of the second wife, was murdered by a Zith while hunting, leaving only herself and her father, the Ankal, left in the Pavilion. He pleaded with Ajna to take a husband, but she was closed to the opinion. He desperately tried to assure her that though their Pavilion dwindled on the brink of extermination, her brothers would eventually return to take over and it would flourish again. She became quiet, yet easily infuriated, and more obsessed with the betterment of her skills. She held no faith in his promise for the return of her brothers. She had no interest in taking a husband and becoming part of his Pavilion. Something stirring within her drove her to want to remain a Morningstorm, even if one day she was the last one standing. The proud woman lost hope at the age of twenty-five when her father passed of old age. She stood by his bedside and held his hand as he faded away. Her tears were shed, and once he was given a proper and honorable burial, she dove back into her training. Having lost her entire Pavilion to a series of unrelenting and unfortunate events, she was without distraction or hindrance. *this history will be altered as threads are completed. |
