Ana had insisted she would go back into the City, despite that Jakobi had warned her that it looked as if it were going to storm terribly in the next few bells. She hadn't taken his warning seriously, she had thought that she would have been able to make it there easily before any such thing happened. What Ana had not expected though, was hail, she had simply thought there would be snow so late in the season. Sunberth had snow, and well obviously the Spires wasn't Sunberth, she knew that winter meant snow and she was quite fine with the awful, chilling, cold white flakes of the air. At least she had her cloak to keep her warm, it was more than she had, had seasons ago and she was quite thankful for at least that.
But hail? Ice falling from the sky? It had started falling at the size of small pebbles, and as she gradually made her way to the city, the ice chunks grew large in size and became quite painful every time they struck her. Stingin her shoulders, and some times knocking a bit on her head, finally forcing her to raise her arms up and begin trying to run through the hail looking for safety. As they were getting bigger than her own fists could be, this, this was definitely dangerous to be in. Much worse than snow too, Ana made a strange, pained noise when a particularly large one struck her arm just above her elbow. Okay, Jakobi, you were right! Ana thought panickedly.
Safety on the path? She never found it, instead she was forced to veer off course and into the forest to hide under some trees nearby. Shivering in her cloak, and becoming more paranoid by the chime. What if it began to snow in this hail? Ana wondered, looking around, she could hear the constant thuds of hail against the ground and crashing through the trees which had little to no thickness in their branches. She cradled her arm, unsure of what had happened, it just stung worse than a silly horse bite that was for sure. Sighing, she settled under the tree, hoping this freakish storm would pass by and so she could get into the city.
Or perhaps she could go back to the stables to Jakobi, Ana floundered at the thought, she didn't want to be told 'I told you so' by him.. but maybe he was worried about her as well. Ana hoped he wasn't trying to look for her in the storm.
Huddled, she listened carefully, pretty confident even wild animals would have taken cover from the hail. Yet, she heard a voice, she strained her ears harder through the thuds of ice which struck the ground, yes, a voice. Ana couldn't discern it very well, who was stupid enough to be travelling through this? Besides her of course, Ana sighed, she wasn't going to move from where she was, that would have been just as stupid since it was offering excellent protection seemingly.
"I'm over here!" Ana called out, still wanting to get out of this place "over here! By the big tree!" She repeated as loudly as she could. |
