Lab 7-M ("Elements Sanctum")

Lab 7-M can be found rather isolated from the rest of the labs on this level of the Caverns. This is because explosions, freak accidents and unforeseen deaths happen nearly every day behind its thick iron doors. There are no guards posted before the entrance, no lock to keep intruders out. There is no security at all. In fact the arrows which lead to lab 7-M glow brighter than any others within the Caverns, almost as if they are trying to draw people in rather than keep them out.

No other labs can be found near the Elements Sanctum, and the door that leads into it is simple iron, thick and heavy and bearing many marks of abuse. It willingly opens to the slightest touch, swinging in to allow one to pass over the portal into the room beyond. Unlike other labs the Elements Sanctum is simply a large open space more than a hundred yards in diameter. Targets made with different materials (wood, stone, ice, ect) stand at odd place within the room, and deep craters and cracks mar the ground and walls. A single wooden table sits against the far wall where countless books and papers are strewn, stacked on the floor and piled on top of each other. At the very back of the room there is a door which leads to a makeshift sleeping area. Straw mats are scattered half-hazardly on the floor and it is obvious that this room receives very little use.

Lab 7-M has been known to run through apprentices nearly 3 times faster than any other lab in Sahova. The vast overturn of both living and nuit apprentices is due to the particular function of the lab. The Elements Sanctum is a place for advancement in reimancy technique and practical applications in a war like setting. Thus the apprentices often get opted to be a part of the experiments. Roknus Malestrom, the Master of the Lab, finds little value in a life other than his own, and so nearly every person who walks through those iron doors is expendable.

Roknus began his career in Reimancy early on in the war against Suva. He first fought as a battlemage in many conflicts, and his power and ferocity earned him the title "Rozaranuri", or "One who is addicted to death" in the ancient tongue. During the war Roknus was gravely injured, both of his legs torn off in battle. Thus he was taken from active duty and instead put to work researching new methods and techniques in reimancy which would aid Alahea in their fight against the Suvan empire. Roknus was chosen to join the ARMED project, and with his nuitification he regained the legs he lost and continued to research the endless possibilities of reimancy. Up until present time he has worked tirelessly to master every element, bending and twisting them into new and never before seen combinations which at times seem to defy normal logic. He has succumbed to overgiving countless times, and so many of Sahova consider his mind shattered beyond repair. Still, his power and intelligence are as sharp as ever.

Strange, twisted, eccentric and ruthless are all words that might describe Master Malestrom, the leading voice of reimancy in Sahova. While his prowess and abilities cannot be questioned, his ability to socialize is rather lacking. He is harsh, blunt and to the point at all times. Perhaps it is age, or even his vast abilities, that give him the confidence to say whatever he is thinking at the time to whoever he is talking to, even Lector Qiao and the Archwizard. Known to be one of the most merciless nuits of Sahova, Roknus sacrifices apprentices, pulser and nuit alike, as if they were nothing more than used scraps of paper. To him nothing is more important than the advancement of his craft. Some even say he has completely lost himself to his cause.

Perhaps his most interesting quirk, Roknus never takes on apprentices. Instead he calls those who work under him servants. Those who have given to him their lives to do with as he pleases. He will never directly teach any of his techniques, but those who survive any length of time under his care cannot help but pick up a thing or two from him.
