Riverfall's leading mental health and healing - psychiatric center.

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role play forums. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The Wellness Center

The Riverfall Wellness Center is a comprehensive healthcare facility, where Kuvan can recover from injuries, whether physical or psychological, or go for periodic maintenance to upkeep a healthy mind and body. While any healer in the city can heal a flesh wound, Fresh Start makes sure the mind goes home healthy as well, and psychological evaluations are a requirement for certain levels of treatment at the facility.

Kuvan can either check themselves in or be required by the Council or their employment superiors. If someone is evaluated and is found to have suffered significant mental trauma, he or she is placed on light duty until therapy concludes that the trauma is being dealt with in a healthy manner. Evaluations of Akalak warriors, particularly concerning their dark side, are taken very seriously, as the psychiatrist can make a recommendation to the Council of Cerulean status.

Severe cases are uncommon, and while the Center does have a head Healer on staff and a ward dedicated to intensive care, most patients come in for therapies such as acupuncture, group exercise classes, and psychiatric help. There is one massage therapist on staff, but ongoing massage therapy is recommended to Moonstone Bath & Massage.

Services Offered
Intensive Care: Only the most grave of injuries end up in the Intensive Care Ward. If someone is brought here, it means they are close to death and need the healers’ immediate attention.
Inpatient Recovery: If injuries are non-life-threatening, the final stages of recovery are made in the Inpatient Ward. Admittance into the ward comes with a psych evaluation.
Outpatient Therapy: Outpatient therapy can include ongoing physical or psychological therapy. Outpatient therapy includes almost all of the center's most popular programs:
    Acupuncture
Group Exercise (Seniors, Beginners Yoga, Child Developmental Coordination)
    Chiropractic therapy
    Herbal therapy
Psychiatric Evaluations: Any Kuvan may come in for a series of therapy sessions, billed per bell, usually consisting of talk-therapy. For those who are full patients of the Center, evaluations include two major sessions: Fit for Discharge, and Fit for Work. Fit for Discharge evaluates whether an inpatient is allowed to leave Inpatient Recovery and move to Outpatient. Fit for Work is similar, but is geared toward finding whether the patient has been fully healed from an injury and can return to full duty at work.
Family Therapy: If the home life of a Kuvan is unhealthy, an entire family may attend a series of sessions with the psychiatrist, to address and solve problems in the home, in a healthy, constructive manner.
Interventions: If someone is having difficulty in their lives, usually in dealing with a recent trauma or substance abuse, concerned friends or family may request an Intervention with the presence of the head psychiatrist. The person in question is brought to the Center, where the group as a whole requests he or she admit they have a problem and seek help. Interventions are particularly effective for people who may be initially hostile to the suggestion of treatment, and seeks to avoid anger by making a personal appeal from concerned friends.

Sashin and Sebek Bodulan
Image
Name: Sashin/Sebek Bodulan
Race: Akalak
DoB: 16th of Winter, 439AV (Age 73)
PoB: Riverfall
Title: Head Psychiatrist
Skills: Observation 91, Interrogation 84, Persuasion 66, Rhetoric 50, Weapon: Lakan 33
Gnosis: 1 Ionu, 1 Avalis
Additional Info: Sashin’s family has been connected with the Vortake’s as long as either of them can remember. Sashin and Kartash played together as boys, and while their darker sides butt heads sometimes, they’ve remained good friends.

Sashin grew up with a slight distaste for blood, and had early ambitions to go into politics, after an early affinity for rhetoric showed him to be a level headed young man. He’s sired a couple children, many of whom have followed him into the healing arts, and almost always apprentice with him at the Center.

Personally, he has a kind heart, and a slow, gentle manner of speaking. He is almost universally liked, though few know much about his personal life. Sebek, his darker side, is more tolerant of bloodshed, but the pair share an understanding of a warrior's heart. When dealing with cases that involve the darker half of another Akalak, Sebek usually makes an appearance to connect on that level.

Kartash and Letin Vortake
Image
Name: Kartash/Letin Vortake
Race: Akalak
DoB: 91st of Winter, 443AV (Age 69)
PoB: Riverfall
Title: Head Healer
Skills: Observation 82, Medicine 80, Herbalism 69, Philtering 65, Weapon: Lakan 45
Gnosis: 2 Rak’keli, 1 Viratas
Additional Info: Kartash is, and always has been, stubborn to the point of bull headedness, and a natural leader. In his first Zith raid, the hunting party was ambushed and out numbered, and though they eventually put down the Zith, the party would have never made it back to Riverfall if not for Kartash’s talent in healing, and he was recognized for the Council for his valor, and by Rak’keli with his first gnosis mark.

Unlike Sashin, he has no distaste for blood, and has no problem getting elbows deep in blood and gore in order to save a patient. Letin is just as stubborn as his lighter side, but takes a patient’s well being much more personally. Not to say he cares for them personally, but that it becomes an affront to his pride if they don’t immediately get better. When not in Intensive Care or the Inpatient Ward, he is often the Healer seen when someone comes in for Outpatient physical therapy.

Kartash and Sashin have been known to have arguments over what path of treatment to take with a patient, but if Letin and Sebek get involved, the arguments can and have gotten physical. On the rare occasions this has happened, only Nikana, or specifically Nipra, can pull them apart.

Nikana and Nipra Vortake
Image
Name: Nikana/Nipra Vortake
Race: Akontak
DoB: 1st of Autumn, 472AV (Age 40)
PoB: Riverfall
Title: Head Nurse
Skills: Observation 70, Medicine 60, Organization 55, Unarmed Combat 50
Gnosis: None
Additional Info: Nikana is Kartash’s younger sister, but you’d only know it from their bickering, as there is little open affection between them. She tolerates no insubordination from either patient or staff, and has been known to take even Kartash and Sashin to task for a poorly handled situation. Years of handling warriors, particularly when they’re not in their right mind, has given her sizeable physical strength, though a slight addiction to sweets has given her a little extra girth.

Any flirtatious behavior from a patient will get them an immediate trip to her bad side, as a woman with a husband and two children has no interest in wasting time letting men down gently. As head nurse, she is responsible for not only all the patients, but organizing the staff and paperwork. She has the final say in all matters not directly involving the Head Healer or Psychiatrist, and can be extremely strict. She occasionally helps out with the Outpatient physical therapy, and also heads all of the group exercise classes.

Nikana and Nipra have a good relationship, though Nipra can get a little violent when putting down an unruly patient.
