Adonia lived alone and made her living as a waitress. Mathias’s mother was dirt poor. One day when the land lord Ambrose came to get the rent which Adonia didn't have, Ambrose became out raged and took her infant child as payment. When she tried to fight for her child she was killed by Ambrose's bodyguards.
