Glide Away Day

On the second of Fall, anyone under the age of two hundred travels to the Play-Sky, a playground full of vines above one fourth of the city, to celebrate Glide Away Day. This holiday is specifically targets teaching the younger generations the value of gods and goddesses and showing appreciation for these individuals.

Several days before the holiday commences, volunteers help set up the celebrating area. Pathways made of braided wood and vines are laid from tree to tree. The Play-Sky vines are swept out of the paths, temporarily tied off to the side and out of the way. The Slugsuckle nets are checked and rechecked to make sure there are no tears or dangerous gaps, should someone fall from the pathway. If necessary, the volunteers will mend the netting. The volunteers are also in charge of trimming excess branches from the tree tops. This helps keeps the trees healthy and provide an easier view of the sky for the event.

The day of the holiday, everyone under the age of two hundred travels to the Play-Sky, which can be reached by climbing strategically placed ladders or scaling trees. Upon stepping onto the pathway, visitors are automatically greeted by Reggie and Laudra, the owners of the Float Away Shop. Without hesitation, several items are shoved into the hands of visitors. Three balloons, one writing utensil, and a handful of strips of paper are given out, donated by Reggie and Laudra.

Nearly a full bell after midday, all visitors gather near any of the six deacons scattered throughout Sky-Play on carefully designed platforms. The deacons explain the holiday and what is expected. They tell about how the holiday is to honor the gods. This event is to be considered a way of thanking the gods and goddesses along with teaching the younger generations the importance of these individuals.

On each piece of scrap paper, individuals are expected to write a god or goddess's name and explain why this god or goddess should be honored. One of these three must be Caihya. The person will then tie the piece of paper to balloon string and find a high place to let the wind catch the balloons and carry them off. It is believed those honored will receive the messages once the balloon has been carried high above the clouds by the wind of Zulrav.

Once the event is over with, the holiday is celebrated by swinging from the vines or launching into the netting below. The six deacons remain to speak with citizens and share stories of the gods and goddesses late into the evening.
