Nolyn is one of those people who tries his best to have a good time, but when its time to get down to business puts on a serious face. Although, sometimes its hard for him to switch gears depending on the situation. Needless to say, Nolyn is a very honored bound man. He respects everyone, even strangers at first glance. He is very fun loving, and tends to get in a bit of trouble with some of his friends while they are having a good time. But in the end he takes responsibility for his actions and accepts any punishment sent his way with a tough exterior. He is a true man of his word and keeps his promises.

Nolyn believes that one should keep their word, and honor their family and friends. Is obey's the law to a degree some would find admirable. That being said, those who break the law he has a slight dislike for. However, even with this being the case, Nolyn would still go out of his way to teach the law breaker the rules and how to right their wrongs.

He enjoys the company of others, and the various stories told around the campfire. His favorite hobby is caring for the animals that are in his family's care, and venturing out into the forest that surrounds Forstfawn.

Character History

Nolyn was a very adventurous youth, always getting in trouble with his parents and by the many adults that called Frostfawn their home. Whether it be sneaking a snack from the food stores, or gallivanting on his own in the forest, Noyln always found himself in constant mischief. It wasn't long before Nolyn made a name for himself.

“The Terror of Frostfawn.”

People laughed and told stories of Nolyn's various adventures and misdeeds around the halls of Avanthal, many of the Holds gave a thankful sigh that they didn't have to deal with the menace. However with time Nolyn began to age. With this age came responsibility’s and duties he had to uphold. Although the transition from child to young adult was a hard one. From time to time Nolyn would still get into some kind of trouble, and with it came the consequences. Soon the stories of the “Terror of Frostfawn” were only told around the boy's home when the adults were making light of his previous misdeeds. He laughed at their jeers and agreed he had been a terrible child, but was confident that he would forge a new name for him in the years to come.

In his teenage years, Nolyn found something extraordinary. The boy was visiting the Skyglow Hold with his father, to pick up a few pieces of art to decorate their keep. On their visit, Nolyn ran into one of the many artists that lived there. He watched as the man pulled air from his lungs forming it into water. Amazed by the power this man held, Nolyn continued to watch as the man shaped the water into ice, and that ice into an amazing sculpture. When the man was finished the boy hurried over and asked what kind of trick that was. The man went by the name of Dwen Skyglow. He was a manipulator of the magic called Reimancy. He told the boy, by using the powers within his own body he was able to create water and form ice. This was the catalyst for his artwork. Intrigued by the thought of shifting the elements Nolyn asked for Dwen to teach him how to use Reimancy as well. The man was hesitant, and told Nolyn that it was a very dangerous art, as well was the process of learning it. However the boy was adamant and continued to pester the man until Nolyn's father came to fetch him. Dwen explained to Nolyn's father the situation, and his father had to agree. Magic wasn't something to be tampered with, it was a very hazardous skill. But the boy continued to protest and beg. The “Terror of Frostfawn” began to emerge, his youth coming back in such force that his father was surprised by the upset.

It took several weeks before Nolyn's father finally caved. His only wish though, was that Nolyn to be careful of what he was going to be taught. The boy agreed, he were to only use this gift for the betterment of his people or to protect those less fortunate than he. So began the arduous training between teacher and student. Dwen, being no master, only taught the boy the basics of Reimancy and its rules. He dared not induct the boy himself, and sent word to his own master for the induction. It was several month's in the fall season before Dwen's teacher arrived from Zeltiva where he lived. Dwen's teacher first quizzed Nolyn on his knowlage of Reimancy and its mechanics. The boy did alright, answered most of the questions with no trouble. Satisfied by his know how of the art's the man agreed to perform the ceremony in which to unlock Nolyn's potential of magic. It was a painful process, nearly sent the boy in shock as it happened. His palms were cut, and his mouth opened for the process. During the time, as the master's Res filled him, he convulsed in pain and nearly passed out from it. Luckily he survived the treatment, and soon was able to produce Res on his own.

Years later, Nolyn turned eighteen. His gift with Reimancy remained a secret for the most part. He never practiced the art outside his own home, or if he did, did so secretly outside the Hold. His father, mother and his teachers were the only ones who knew. Nolyn preferred it this way. He wasn't much of a show off, and having this skill to himself had its advantages should the need arise to use it. That's not to say Nolyn didn't have a few close calls while using this magic. There was a time when Nolyn went into the state known as overgiving. He was performing a rather difficult maneuver with his res, shaping the water he conjured up into the form of an animal. Nolyn was by no means an expert in the art, and was practicing for the day when he would be able to freeze water into ice as a sculpture. During this practice, he lost track of time. In doing so kept putting in more and more res into his creation. Soon he began to taste metal, but was so focused on the art that he passed it off as nerves. And then it happened. Various sores began to open up on the young adult's body. His eyes bled, and his ears began to ring. Nolyn lost control of his spell and it collapsed into the snow, along with him. The white snow was painted crimson, as he continued to bleed through the various openings, and his only saving grace was the animal companion given go him by his family. Sensing that his friend was in danger, the matured dog ran from Nolyn's secret training spot and back to the hold. However, the animal was unable to find any of the boy's family. The only few bodies around the hold at the time where those of the local Icewatch. However these men were from the Frostfawn hold. The bond between animal and Vantha was never questioned in the Frostfawn hold, and luckily these men of the Icewatch understood what the animal was trying to convey. When the men found him, Nolyn was seen safely back home, where his wounds were healed. Only after he was well enough did his father scold him for his lack of judgment.

In this event, Nolyn came to the conclusion of two things. One, that he must always monitor his usage of Res. Never again will he fall victim of his own misgivings. And two, that he was truly indebted to those men of the Icewatch. With this on his mind, Nolyn swore that one day he would join the order and fight by the side of those who saved him.

Housing

Location: Frostfawn Hold

House: 1 basic 20x20 Arvinta in Frostfawn Hold with a hearth, bunk, chest, chair, and small table.

Each Arvinta consists of a communal meeting or sitting room. Then there are private rooms for couples, and a common sleeping/living room for all the children. Visitors are often given a private room, while a couple will move in with the children to make extra room. Some of the larger, more expansive Holds with wealthier families have spare rooms in their Arvinta or special guest quarters when people move from place to place visiting. Holds often have common areas and craft cottages in buildings attached and are always made of solid stone. External buildings are often built from ice and warmed from within by special braziers that conduct heat into the room but do not melt the thick ice walls. A Hold may contain multiple Arvintas and might hold upwards of a couple hundred people.
