Kirin

APPEARANCE

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Birthday: 20, Fall, 494.
Birthplace: Syliras
Location: Syliras

Appearance: Kirin falls fairly short by human standards, falling at a staunch 5’5” he would appear to be lanky at first glance. His legs and haunches only serve to perpetuate this idea, being frail and almost devoid of tone with only bare bunches of muscle. His arms, though, bare the true tests of his profession and heritage. While still lanky, they contain tight bunchings of muscle derived from hours and hours of working at the anvil. His once vibrant blue eyes have slowly become dulled by the light of sparks he sees day in and day out.

Character Concept

Kirin is dedicated to his father’s profession. Having come from a weaponsmith, despite his father’s aspirations, he continued to hold the position in high regard even after losing his family. His antisocial tendencies have led him to continue his profession in moderate isolation and move to lodgings further out of the city.

Character History

Kirin was born the first son of a moderately accomplished weaponsmith. His father was reknown for the art of making his swords. His mother, a decent enough beauty he had snagged from the city, died during childbirth. It was considered a gift that Kirin himself had survived.

While Kirin’s father attempted to groom the child for a different path the youth was tremendously only interested in the skills his father possessed. Stuck between the adventerous life beyond the anvil and the hammer in front of it, he would choose the hammer every time. This only led to countless fights between the two in their years. In the end, despite trying to groom his son to be a great adventurer and raise his status, the boy had little more than mediocre sword skills and had quickly become the true son of a weaponsmith.

They spent many of their years together at odds, his father’s low oppinion of his profession driving a wedge between the two until he finally succumbed to disease. With nothing left for him, Kirin removed himself even more from the world, dedicating himself to his smithing from his home in Syliras. He saw the rest of the world as an adersary that had tainted his father’s oppinions of his skills and most of his interaction comes from leaving to peddle wares at markets. One day, he hopes to make products good enough to have his skill truly recognized and prove his father wrong.

To this day, he still practices the exercises his father forced on him every day. Though, the original sword has become replaced with a fairly cheap stick.

Personality

Kirin is dedicated to his arts, to an astonishing degree. To those who would question the value of a swordsmith, or deny the worth of his wares he is colder than the iron he forges. This attitude eventually evolved into a full blown antisocial complex. He rarely ventures outside his home except to shop or show off his wares. Despite that, Kirin can still get along with people, as long as they don’t question or slight him in the least. Those that do tend to get a reminder of just what his arms are good at.
Being dedicated to his craft there are very few other things Kirin shows true interest in. Among them are ancient stories, trapping, and a good meal. Though, much as his father always said, he wonders if maybe there is more beyond the blacksmith’s anvil.
