Winds of change and character development...

Postby Eris on June 20th, 2010, 3:45 am

I’ve been planning this for some time now and what with the slackening of Eris’s summer schedule, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to put my plan into action. Not that it’s much of a plan really…just a half-baked idea.

Here it is, nonetheless: During the Spring season, Eris had been struggling with issues of morality and the realities of her occupation. She’s slowly beginning to change the way she sees the world. Suddenly, it’s not so black and white anymore – there are a lot of grey areas. What I need is something – or rather, someone - to speed up the process a bit.

She needs some sort of eye-opening experience (it can be a full-blown adventure or a quiet conversation thread). It would be interesting if she got this little push away from the evil side of life from a fellow criminal. On the other hand, a fine, upstanding figure of morality would do the trick just as well. Bottom line – this will most likely end up a deep, psychological analysis, character delving sort of thing. I’d be doubly happy if Eris could go on this little journey of self-discovery with someone else in a similar predicament, but that would just be an added bonus.

Feel free to offer up your own twist to this.

So….any takers? :D

Winds of change and character development...

Postby Carthin on June 21st, 2010, 12:25 am

I'm not sure if it would work out geographically, but I'd totally be up for some crazy development. Since Carthin's (technically) an upstanding citizen, he might not be ideal, but there's plenty of room for Eris to pry apart what the boy believes.

Basically, he's righteous by upbringing and profession, not by any strong moral compass. He knows what he should do, and regularly lets that override any other actions he could make.

As for why they'd be together... we could do a cliche (but never-the-less entertaining) situation where they're physically stuck together and must find a way to escape one another, thereby leaving plenty of room for conversation and character-time. We could also try giving them a common goal- someone/something stole stuff from each of them and they want their possessions back? They're in a dangerous place and reluctantly band together for their own safety?

I'm just spouting ideas...

I'm not sure how it'll work considering the fact that he's set to be partaking in a cross-Mizahar trip during the summer ending in Wind Reach... Still, if your interest is sparked... you know how to reach me ;)

Oh Eris, I hope none of this was little Kamrynn's fault! If it's any consolation, he's not doing so well either. He's so angsty right now, it's like I'm dealing with a 14 year old! Why can't character's stay the way they were created to be? No more of this dynamically changing personality crap!

Carthin– Sounds interesting and very promising. Eris seems to have a knack for messing with the minds of upstanding young men (*ahem*, Kam )
Eris is on a quest bound for Sahova on the fortieth of summer (and I’ll need to reserve about twenty days before that for her to reach the Zeltiva port), but she’s pretty much free before and after that. I actually like the stuck-in-a-room idea. They could be going about their own business in the Cobalt Mountains when a violent thunderstorm hits and they must seek refuge in a cave. Of course, they happen to choose the same cave and by the time they notice each other, the thunderstorm is too dangerous for either of them to venture out. A tad cliché, but very effective :).

Kam – :D I completely agree. Eris had been giving me way too much trouble and yes, it is very much Kamrynn’s fault! All she does is mope around and feel guilty – can’t even get her to properly kill someone.

May I help? My character is in a gray area himself. He is also familiar with a life of a thief.

hey, well my character is a real good guy, but he struggles with his identity ( He's half symenestran so you can imagine). He also has a slightly evil guise he takes on. Its a mental state induced by panic, fear or intense battle and it only wants to kill things. Right now he's Syliras but he's a wanderer and is not attached to anything in the great city. He's ready for adenture.

interested?

Postby Malia on June 29th, 2010, 3:21 pm

I hope I'm not too late, but what you look for totally sounds like something I can see Malia in!

I don't have any particular ideas yet, but Malia will be on her way from Sahova to Syliras at the beginning of Summer. We could meet somewhere in the Wilderness. I believe that they could actually create a dangerous situation just by interacting with one another and perhaps drawing the wrong conclusions at the wrong time. After all, Eris seems to be quite competent with weapons and Malia knows a bit about Animation which is always dangerous, even if practiced out in the wilderness and on one's own.

I'd be glad to discuss details and other ideas though. :)
