Helen Bell

Appearance

Race: Human
Sex: Female
Birthday: 67th of Winter 486 AV
Birthplace: Nyka

Appearance: With black hair and dark grey eyes set in a pale face, Helen isn't that distinguishable from most other Nykans. She has no body art to speak of and only a faint smattering of scars that detail a life of forced violence tell her rather unremarkable tale. She has a slender, willowy figure with long fingered hands and lacking any curvaceous assets that would help her stand out and apart. For all intents and purposes, she could fade into the background. At least she has a pretty face, though, with pleasant proportions and a charming, easy smile as infectious as the flu.

She dresses in flaxen clothes dyed vivid colours. Typically, a skirt is preferred with a shirt and boots, but she may don a dress if the occasion permits or even pants. In colder times, she bundles up in mitts, a scarf, hat, and her coat.

Character Concept

Helen has an infectious personality. Often she is smiling and merry, enjoying the life she lives and the people she lives it with in equal amounts. She acts unkind towards those she doesn't like and downright hostile to those she recognises as outsiders. A Nykan can tell when she sees a stranger, she has reasoned to herself.

She likes to farm, fight, and pray. Her gods include the Celestials and the addition of Vayt and Bala. She has learned her numbers and letters, shares superstitions with other Nykans, and respects the order of the city and the monks that uphold it.

Helen is content to fade into the background and work in obscurity, but she knows the value of companions and friendship and seeks those out, although very warily. She has had her fair share of pleasures and false loves and doesn't desire much more for the time being. She isn't even that good with children, being awkward around toddlers and downright frightened around squalling infants.

To fellow Nykans Helen is very accommodating. She will always take their side against a foreigner, even if the Nykan doesn't share her choice of gods, and if an argument arises between her and a fellow Nykan, she uses her daggers in relative ease to prove her rightness.

Character History

Helen was born and raised in Nyka, but she never really knew her mother as she died in childbirth two years later. Her father was generally out of her life as well, doing his paternal duty by placing her in the care of his mother in law and focusing on his farming and cooking.

Being raised by her grandmother, Helen was privy to the elderly woman's superstitions, racism, and elitist views. The old woman taught her how to read, write, count and identify right from wrong. She taught Helen about Vayt and the logic he brought to the world. Sickness was his gift to the world, she had always said during their religious studies. He culled the weak from the strong and purified the race as a whole so their future would be assured. Poisoncraft was something sparingly tutored due to the potential for disaster accompanying it.

When she died, Helen was devastated. She still is. Her father entered her life again not long after and although they do not often speak, he has taught her much as well, but about cooking and farming that her grandmother could no longer do.

She enjoys a life of loneliness now, existing in her grandmother's townhouse after selling off some of her more useless possessions. She doesn't have many friends to her name and doesn't intend to discover any. What she lacks in meanness she makes up for with devious intentions.
