Luradin woke earlier in the morning today, probably from his excitement at his plans that spanned the next few hours. Lifting himself up from his bed rather quickly he moved through his house with the usual silence he had become practiced at and down to the ground-level.

Swimming out of one of the windows he quite easily picked up his trident from where it was leaning against one of the walls and continued his path to the surface. Luradin swam upwards from the mouth of the window and span as he climbed, taking a momentary peak at the calm sea-floor that had yet to be tainted by the movement of hundreds of his kind.

He still climbed, the spin not slowing him or taking his mind from his course as he moved every part of his body below the chest to catch against the water and drag himself every closer to the surface that gleamed with the opaqueness of a clouded glass that had yet to set, it was both liquid to the body and solid to the eyes - but today was not a day to waste time speculating over the substance he had spent almost his entire life in.

Luradin had practiced a much quicker way of leaving the water and as he neared the surface his legs began to cross with much more force and speed, he was effectively speeding upwards through the water and as he reached the wall of the sea he threw his upper body backwards to catapult himself airborn from the water. His muscles abdomen contracted and his eyes shot to the ground to aim his feet directly into the sand, his knees bent heavily as he landed and his trident-wielding hand was almost against the floor.

Pushing himself up to a natural standing position caused his thighs to jump in excitement, forming great cracks in the skin which had begun to look like rock from his constant use of the muscles.

He strolled forwards to what had become an almost familiar area of the coast, he had found the strange forest when he followed the young Myrian but he had heard of forests, they were not as damp as this one was and the leaves were much thicker in this forest, the plant life more vast.

Luradin had been coming here more often to look at the amazing things that were spread around here, thinking of them made his mind hunger to touch them and he reached up to snatch a large leaf from a tree. The leaf was soaked but was still rigid, it was a huge bowl shape and was split into many fan-like sections from which water dripped almost constantly. Lifting the leaf to his mouth Luradin took a bite and winced, it was bitter but seemed edible - a useful piece of information for his life on land he thought.

Bully Memorabilia

Still wandering the strange damp forest that Luradin liked brought him to another location from memory - the open path before him spanned from the mouth of the jungle through some chopped down trees and flat amount of land that was probably quite dangerous to walk around in and so Luradin decided not to go, though his curiosity was disappointed at this.

Continuing to look at all the different kinds of weird and wonderful plants was a way of keeping Luradin's mind off of the strange little expanse of flatter, open land. He knelt down to examine a huge bright red coloured plant when he heard a noise come from behind him. Luradin span around and stood up with trident ready as he expected to see some large animal staring back at him but was met with Myrian eyes wide with the shock of finding him here or maybe at not having seen one of his kind before - he wasn't sure.

Swallowing hard was the only way for Luradin to process the situation it seemed, as he did it so many times and with so much effort in the few moments after his meeting with the Myrian that it almost seemed to be his subconscious' way out of this, Luradin didn't think it much help though.

Luradin had seen these people in battle and he had come to the conclusion they were not particularly good first-time combatants for anyone, he had trained himself both the theory of fighting and the motions of fighting but he had never put two and two together in an actual fight and the Myrians seemed to do that when they were about 5 or something equally un-believable, this made the task of probably fighting this Myrian quite daunting for Luradin but he was in no way going to die here.

Thinking it strange that the Myrian and him had been staring each-other off for a long time made Luradin wonder why he wasn't simply attacking him, Myrians didn't seem to be fearful of any race they'd met but maybe this one had never seen a Charoda before he thought with some enthusiasm.

Luradin stood up straight with his trident braced in his right hand and puffed out his chest in an attempt to look imposing against his opponent, this seemed reasonably futile because it was almost as if he was treating the Myrian as an animal - they could be smart enough to see this as some foolish attempt. Perhaps he would have to go further into his dangerous visage to shake the Myrian as opposed to trying to bloat himself like a frog.

Luradin fixed his eyes to the Myrian and began shouting strange remarks in his language that didn't make sense but sounded shrill and strange to the Myrian I'll kill you if you don't get out of here he finished the strange shrieking taunt with a twirl of his trident, he swung his wrist down and released the shaft of the trident to let it twirl up into the air before it fell right back into his grip again.

Bully Memorabilia

This seemed to have been the wrong approach to taunting the warrior race that feared no physical combatant he thought as the Myrian came charging towards him with a fearsome roar-like battle cry.

Though the Myrian was running it almost seemed like he wasn't touching the ground the way he flung himself forwards at Luradin. Luradin's eyes darted between the wicked looking sword of the man and his eyes which were burning with a fearsome hatred. Luradin ducked just in time as the sword swung down to catch his head and finish him off. The Myrian was only just flung past Luradin by his swing and quickly turned to bring the sword back at the amphibian.

Luradin's eyes flinched instinctively and his trident head went up to catch the sword's advance, with a painful clang followed by a shaking vibration Luradin had blocked his first ever life-threatening sword swing. The kick to his face was not blocked however and he was sent flying backwards, luckily in-built kinematics and flexibility brought him rolling back to his feet. Another substance that was rolling was his blood, which oozed from the cut in his skin due to one of the disgusting toenails or shards of wood from the badly-kept sandals piercing his face.

Thinking about how the Myrian fought with rage inspired Luradin to try something new, that and the fact that he'd just been kicked in the face. Whilst the Myrian obviously smirked in delight as his little stunt Luradin thrust the trident upwards towards the face of his smug attacker and let the shaft slide through his hands slightly to increase the range of his attack.

He was expecting the Myrian to avoid the attack so it came as no surprise when he batted the bladed head of the trident away with the blade of his sword. As the trident head swung away from the body the Myrian obviously thought Luradin's defense was absent and swung his sword down diagonally at his neck with a grunt. Lifting the shaft of the trident up, Luradin braced it against his forearm and took the force of the sword swing straight into his ulna. Wincing with pain Luradin felt a burning through his throat and threw the sword away with his arm, yelling from the exertion of force.

As the sword was flung backwards Luradin followed it with his body weight, throwing the Myrian off balance with his own sword. Then turning his chest, he thrust the trident once again towards the Myrian's face, except this time from a more sideways inclined angle. Though the Myrian was off-balance he was still able to move his upper body somewhat and tried to fling himself away from the trident. Even so - two points of the trident plunged into his forehead and his nose and cut a line across both as he backed his body away.

With new courage Luradin lowered his trident to point down to the floor in-front of his chest, his right knee pointed at his opponent and his body in a wedge shape, ready to meet his next attack. He would certainly not be dying today, he re-assured himself.

The Myrian's rage seemed almost un-controllable as his eye twitched at (luradin guessed) the pain that was now running through his face and the blood that was now dripping down into his eyes and mouth, Luradin had underestimated the sharpness of his trident but could see now that it had cut very deep into the Myrian's skin.

Luradin was quite sure the Myrian wasn't about to compliment him on the sharpness of his weapon and was indeed proved correct as the enraged man threw himself forwards with a strike straight for Luradin's head once again, lifting his trident suddenly and stepping away from the man's sword brought the trident's head hard into the flat part of the Myrian blade and with a sharp clang (which made Luradin's eye jitter shut) the blade struck the floor with the Myrian clinging to it still, heavily unbalanced.

As the man rose, so did one of his arms - it had detached from his sword and now the reasonably sharp elbow of the man struck Luradin in the face where his nose should have been. Luradin winced with the bludgeoning pain but it was not particularly bad, especially due to the fact that Luradin's nose barely protruded from his face. With the distraction placed, the Myrian tried to swing upwards for Luradin's torso and only by awkwardly stabbing his sword did Luradin trap it once again in-between the prongs of his trident.

Before giving the man the chance to bludgeon his face again Luradin twisted his trident to lock two of the prongs against the blade and guided it along with his body as he flung one leg up in a jump over both his trident and the man's sword. As his first foot hit the ground Luradin had already used his acrobatic-trained body to twirl around and bring the heel of his second foot into the side of the man's face, directly into his cheek bone.

Though Luradin felt this was quite a good move as he saw the Myrian drop down he quickly noticed that he was in-fact also spinning around to face him, the Myrian swung his sword round too fast for Luradin to react and cut a deep gash across the shin of Luradin's leg.

With a scream of pain that rasped in his throat, Luradin fell to the ground with only the mental capacity to still hold his trident. Luradin's leg was drawn up quickly to his chest and he cupped his hand around his shin, upon touching the wound Luradin yelled in pain again and removed his hand. Upon seeing his own blood staining his hand in large amounts Luradin's mind went to a darker place.

Faced with his own death Luradin's heart sank in his chest and feeling of despair and general depression and of helplessness all flooded into him at once. All of these emotions seemed to mix together, they churned together in the pit of his stomach.

As the Myrian stood above Luradin pointing the blade at him and smiling with blood-soaked features Luradin's fear was replaced with anger. His mind raced with thoughts You're just another bully, I did nothing wrong and you attacked me just because you don't know what race I am? Luradin slammed his body to the ground as the sword plunged downwards and His coiled legs shot out into the shins of the man stood over him.

I hate you, you should just leave us alone! Luradin yelled as he quickly pulled up his trident, it's blunt end was still touching the ground when Luradin kicked the Myrians feet out from under him and as the blade plunged downwards towards Luradin's face the three prongs of his trident dug deeply into the chest of the Myrian as he fell. The shaft of the trident was stabbed in the ground and suspended the now dead Myrian above Luradin, his sword just inches from the wincing face of Luradin who was as close to the ground as he could be.

The sword of the Myrian dropped down next to Luradin's face and blood poured down on his chest from the Myrian's wounds, Luradin looked up at the corpse of the Myrian above him and wept the dry-eyed crying that was the only type available to the young Charoda.

Additional Notes :
This was... actually quite impressive. Your narrative wasn't quite as evocative as it could have been, but your characterizations were spot on for the races involved and charged with real, visceral emotion. The hatred of the Myrian, the pacifism of the Charoda... they were both evoked beautifully, and the ending was almost heart-wrenching.

Almost makes me rethink my Myrian character... nah, just kiddin'. :D

Great job, mate. Hope to see more of this. Oh, and as soon as you find a decent one, you might wanna chance your avatar. I think it's cute, but it doesn't really keep in with the tone of the site, y'know?
