It was a rare thing to see Sarith out of his house of his own volition, even more rare to see him outside of the comforts of civilization. Yet here he was, outside of Riverfall with a backpack slung over his back and a grin on his face as he once more took in the amazing scenery of The Sea of Grass. He was not too far from Riverfall, about two bells had passed since last he had seen the gates, it would be unwise to stray too far into the wilderness alone.
He was, for once, not dressed in his typical finery, instead only wearing his simple common clothing. His monocle was still on his face, giving him that refined look and helping with his weaker left eye. He figured that it would be best to travel without them as he did not wish to damage his fine clothes.
Sarith looked all about him, grass stretched as far as his eyes could see, rolling on forever. In the distance behind him he could barely make out Riverfall, giving him a proper gauge of just how far away he really was from his new home. It would have been rather intimidating for him on most days, indeed even today he felt somewhat ill at ease with the sizable distance between here and the city. However his experiments bade him to leave the city as Voiding could be extremely dangerous to others if nearby.
Conducting his experiment in his own home had been thrown out immediately as the size of this portal would be much larger that the small, controlled portals he had worked with over the past few days. It was unwise to work such magic in large public places like cities, one never knew when someone might get sucked into the Void by mistake.
The scholar finally came to a stop, nodding in satisfaction with the spot he now chose. It was, of course, grassy land but it was much shorter than other spots, a clearing in the plains if he was forced to draw comparisons. Sarith slipped his backpack from his shoulders and quickly got to work rifling through its contents.
It took some rummaging but at last he found what he was looking for, a small pouch filled with rocks. He grinned victoriously and started looking for a good place to put them, opting for a small and bare patch of dirt not far from where he had been standing. He poured some of the rocks out onto the ground, not all but about five of the smaller ones. The scholar smiled and stepped back away from the spot.
This would be an exercise in accuracy regarding the pull of the portals he could manifest. It wouldn't be overly difficult to get a single rock into a tiny portal like the one he had been using for his experiments thus far, a more accurate gauge of precision would be had if he used a larger portal. The scholar brought his hands out before him, closing his eyes as he concentrated on a tiny spot in front of him.
