Question on Akalaks

Akalaks have infravision, but is it something they activate and deactivate, or do they always see that way?

One would naturally think they would not always see that way. The sun's light brings infrared rays, and thus it would be rather blinding if they always saw that way.

The activation would likely be spurred automatically by the luminance around the. i.e., when you enter a dark room/whatever, your eyes would become accustomed to it over time in a similar manner to the way they get accustomed to darkness in real life.

I figured if it was always on, they might have some sort of natural flare compensation.

So, they're not able to activate it at will? So, no using to track people down by the heat they leave behind?

The Akalaks can switch back and forth from normal vision to infravison at will.
