Asunde

Appearance

Race: Eypharian
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Birthday: The Thirteenth Day of Spring, 490 AV
Birthplace: Ahnatep

Appearance:
Standing in at six feet, eight inches Asunde is among the tallest of his race. Six thick arms adorn his muscled torso, giving him a look closer to barbarian than dignified socialite. His skin leans towards the lighter side of the spectrum, but still being considered a warm copper rather than the gold of his mother’s family. His eyes are a flat and unreflective black and are often considered too cold for a son of Gilded family though he has little ill intent towards most people. Asunde’s features are hardy and handsome, lacking the delicacy some of his kind favor. With a broad jaw, strong nose and pronounced brow, he looks more at home among his father’s horses and ruffians than he does in the courts of the palace. His shoulders are broad, his waist trim and wrapped in the hard, flat muscle that comes from hard work and time in the wilderness. Each of his six arms is sculpted and equally distributed with working muscle and none of them lack of anything. Asunde is often complimented for his strong hands, all six of which are large and well kept, if not rougher than most considering his line of work. His legs are long and strong like that of a steed’s and are heavy enough so his bulky upper half doesn’t seem disproportionate.

As far as adornments, Asunde keeps it to the bare socially acceptable minimum, finding little time in his long days for vanity…though he isn’t totally exempt from it. He uses the typical oils and perfumed sun creams to his shining skin in prime condition and is guilty of ringing his eyes in heavy kohl that both keep the harsh sun from his eyes and give him a look of mystery that leaves many of the ladies and men looking past his dull personality and more at his trim body and handsome face. He keeps his facial trimmed back and out of the way as possible but sometimes simply lacks time or energy to fight off the shadow that finds his strong jaw daily.

Character Concept

Family/Social Standing

Asunde comes from one of the prestigious Gilded families of Ahnatep. His family is not one known for their charm, beauty or even social skills. They have become known as trustworthy, hard working and courageous above all else. Technically classified as a transporting family much like those who run merchant ships, Asunde’s family operates several large caravans containing strong Eypharian men and women who are capable riders, experienced in combat, and intelligent enough to properly protect their large cargo, typically awkward exports like marble and raw metals too cumbersome to be transported by ship. One of the men of the family always accompanies the caravans and with there only being three of them they are never all home at once. They make themselves responsible for any lost cargo and take the role of ensuring proper payment for the shipments is received upon delivery.

The women of the household and the men who aren’t caravanning run the business side of the operation. Asunde’s charming mother and sisters negotiate the terms of transport, pricing, payment and all of the finer details of finance and the like. They also keep up the family’s social standing by attending feasts, parties, festivals, and any other event that require their presence to prevent scandal or to gain new customers. Asunde’s elder sisters have both found their husbands at such events, both men of repute that Asunde’s mother was more than pleased with, and both of his parents expect the same for him. He has his doubts, but more on that later.

As a Gilded family, the caravan runners are very loyal to Pressorah Bashti and whichever of the Noble houses are supportive of her at the moment. They take pride in their importance in society, knowing the dangers of caravan work and yet considering themselves experts in the hazardous business. They consider themselves successful and fully deserving of their Eypharian heritage. And as such they have great expectations for their children. The elder daughters have already done well, finding good husbands to bring into the family and the family business though neither have the desire to caravan, they’ve done well in helping the women in the base operations. Ipsin is a bit of a wildchild, but they have little doubt she’ll come around.

Occupation/Daily Life-

As part of a caravanning family, Asunde’s life is never dull. Though still considered too young to lead a caravan on his own, he takes turns accompanying his father and uncle, learning under their tutelage. Caravanning is a multi-faceted trade. One must understand how to haggle and negotiate, manage many men and women, horses, and merchandise on top of having the skill to defend your caravan from internal and external attack.

When not travelling, Asunde spends time with his mother and sisters, leaning the tricks of the trade on the home front. This is includes learning to navigate financial issues, though it’s expected his sisters and future wife will handle that for him, and more importantly how to be a proper socialite. He dreads these lessons but obediently endures these necessary tortures. His typical day at home consists of working with the men and horses not on duty, keeping fit and busy and happily getting down and dirty with his father’s employees. In the evening he’ll join his mother and sisters to attend feasts in the palace or other prominent homes. There he discusses business, politics, and whatever else he’s forced to entertain with a bland politeness, wandering mind disguised by a patient smile and well placed nods.

Personality

To assume Asunde is a typical Eypharian socialite is far from the truth. The young man finds himself bored when forced into conversations and worst yet horrified at the idea of becoming so prominent in society that such activities would make up the majority of his day. His great love is the desert from a horseback view, the wind in his air and his arms sore from hard work. Alas the life of Eypharian is not so simple. Despite his dislike of most formal social interaction, Asunde is a friendly enough person. He gets along well with most men of more common stock, enjoying talk and activities centering on caravanning. His temper is hard to draw out, the young man finding conflict petty and foolish, but is infamous in its rare appearances. There are many insults worthy of physical punishment in Asunde’s mind, among them insulting his family, his worth, or worse yet any of his father’s men. He’s happier fist fighting than debating which has gotten him into trouble in the past. His reputation is respected among his fellows for being honest and brave, if not a little stupid when it comes to anything above common sense or practical knowledge, though they often forget his keen eyes. He’s highly impatient when it comes to laziness or dishonesty which gives his father hope for his future inheritance of the family business, if not for his political career. Asunde is sometimes assumed to be an easy target for manipulation or seduction, and many a young woman of lower standing has attempted to worm her way into his family’s money with honeyed words and a fair face. Oddly enough such advances are met with sharp words from the burly young man and he’s apt to publicly embarrass someone if they continue to seek him in such ways. Perhaps it was his mother’s doting or growing up around three raucous sisters, but his tolerance for women is low, save for when they’re proved competent horsemen or swordsman.

When on the road, Asunde is simultaneously more carefree, liberated from societal social expectations, and far more solemn. He takes his responsibilities very seriously and is fiercely protective of both the efficiency of his father’s operation and the men who make it happen. In instances of combat, the young Eypharian is brutal and merciless like many of his kind. He considers thievery or attempts at it to be among the highest offense and seeks quick retribution for such things. He tries to keep levelheaded in combat, but it’s difficult for him, seeing as he tends to become reckless when offended.

Finally, as an Eypharian and despite his relatively well rounded attitude, Asunde is highly racist. He despises the beastial races, has a strong dislike for everything but Dhani and is likely to kill or attempt to capture a Benshira on sight. Some part of the old world has clung to his family and in his raising it was instilled that these humans above all others are only worth anything dead or enslaved. He's tolerant of human races in business as marble dealings sometimes involve the wealthier humans.

Religion

Though he acknowledges the traditional gods of his people and their power, he has little interest in being devout to them or any other deity at the moment. Perhaps in the future he will be swayed by some encounter or great need, but for now he lives without divine intervention.

Sexuality

And here comes one of the greatest difficulties in the young Eypharian’s life. Despite the social norms and expectations from his family that he should marry a rich young woman, Asunde rarely finds himself attracted to females at all. Their excessive make up, boldness, and scent all put him off. He acknowledges the beauty of the feminine form and their unique grace, but he simply has never been sexually interested in one in his life so far.

Now that’s not to say he’s completely homosexual, he’s likely teetering that way but is very open for the right woman to come along.

As far as men go, growing up around the strong men that made his father’s workforce likely had an influence on his opinion of them and his expectations of himself. He finds a strong masculine form attractive in that is shows hard work and dedication in a way sweet words can not. He’s had a few lovers, most of them being men who work the caravans he accompanies. All of it has been very secretive lest his parents find some flaw in that aspect of him. All of these brief affairs have ended after a short time, usually resulting in a stronger friendship and a sexual tension that is likely obvious to those around him.

Asunde is just as hedonistic as the rest of his culture, and is thus typically frustrated in sexual aspects of his life. Many of the beautiful male slaves also catch his eye and some part of him fears that will be the only way for him to find pleasure in a life that seems to inevitably lead him to a loveless marriage.

Aspirations/Goals

Like most of his kind, Asunde mostly seeks to reach his potential and reach success. In his case he desires to take on the family business and expand its reach while furthering their favor with the nobles and their leader. When asked by someone he doesn’t know, he’ll of course smile and mention a beautiful wife and strong sons, though the latter aspect sometimes makes his insides cringe. Truly he’d like a capable man at his side who can share in his love of the wild and ravenous but controlled hedonistic desires. He also aspires to travel with or without the family caravans to the rest of the continent.

Character History

Twenty three years ago Asunde was born the first and only son to his parents in the deserts surrounding Ahnatep. His mother had laughed when she felt the pangs of labor, joking that she should have never agreed to join her husband on a caravan. The couple both laughed when they held their son for the first time, pleased with his sturdiness and six arms, a trait expected of the men of their family. His first years revealed him to be curious but cautious, a trait that brought his parents great joy. He was a good sport under his sister’s various tortures and an obedient little student when it came to his lessons or his time with his father’s men. His first word was ‘horse’ and filled their house with laughter. He’d be a good boy.

The birth of his little sister ending his mother’s childbearing as she was born feet first with all her arms trailing behind her, damaging his mother’s wound and almost costing hers and his sister’s life. From then on he spent most of his time with his father and uncle, learning the ways of the caravan from a distance and often by accompanying the men on shorter trips. His childhood passed that way, filled with long hugs goodbye and kisses of greeting and many, many parties and banquets in between.

His teenage years were difficult. While many of his peers were falling in ‘love’ and experimenting with the local girls, Asunde’s eyes were drawn to broad backs and strong arms.

His twenties have been uneventful and peaceful as was the rest of his life. Asunde is plagued with a stirring, some feeling that tells him his life hasn’t truly begun yet. Even his love of the caravan and the promise of a life like his father’s doesn’t sate the uneasy feeling. Perhaps some part of his blood calls for a war like the old world, or for discovery…something. He can’t pin it and ignores the pang most of the time, focusing on his duties and his sparingly taken pleasures.

Heirloom: On his twentieth birthday Asunde was given a young stallion of the Eyktolian Desertbred variety by his uncle, who is the horsemaster of the family.

Name: Vashtak
Age: Five years
Size: Tall of his kind, much like his rider.
Personality: Vashtak is a dependable young horse, chosen for his potential to lead the 'herd' much like Asunde will when he takes responsibility for the caravan. Vashtak doesn't scare easily and would only react aggressively toward anyone is they were attempting to harm Asunde or one of the female horses he feels responsible for.

Housing

Location: Asunde's home is located Ahnatep but he spends much of the year travelling with his father's caravan which makes its living from transporting the goods too difficult to be exported using ships.

House: Asunde takes up residence in his parents' complex. His own room is filled only with basic necessities as he is no hoarder of fine things...yet. His parents' complex, while not extravagant, is sturdy and comfortable as is expected of one of the Gilded families, even if it is a rather unconventional one.

Starter House :
For 500 GM a person in Ahnatep would have a single room in a larger home or collective. These structures in Ahnatep tend to be two stories and made of mud brick with a decorative courtyard and exterior staircases. Players can choose whether to be upstairs or downstairs. Entrances to rooms and the wood screened windows face the courtyard. Rooms would have a chest for belongings, a polished copper mirror, a standing basin, a bench, bed and brazier for cooking and heat.
