Denairvun Frostfawn [WIP]

Postby Denairvun Frostfawn on May 18th, 2013, 6:19 pm

Denairvun Frostfawn

Appearance

Race: Human-Vantha
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Birthday: 13th of Summer, 493.
Birthplace: Avanthal

Denairvun stands at a height of 5ft 8" and weighs around 145lbs. He has a slim athletic build, a slender frame built with small yet course, durable muscles and enveloped by a thin layer of fat. Broad shoulders. toned yet wiry arms and legs. Standard for a Vantha who has had a laborious life. His skin is a pale olive in colour common to the the people of the north who aren't blessed with the suns kisses.

He has short back hair with a medium length fringe, which is often messy due to a lifelong habit of running his hands through it when under stress. Very dark green highlights tint his hair in bright light, but they are hard to see amongst the black in low light.

Denairvun has medium sized but slightly narrow eyes, framed by thick eyelashes and crowned by thick black eyebrows that can give an impression of soul staring or break out in to an intimidating scowl in the right circumstances. He has dark purplish patches under his eyes that give the impression that he might be sleep deprived or distressed in some way at worse, and just help compliment his dark features at best.

Denairvuns eyes are dark brown when his mood is neutral, and they tend to shift to hues of blues or green when he is happy or relaxed. Anger can cause his eyes to turn to shades of red or purple depending on the combination of emotions that are running through him. When in deep in concentration his eyes tend to stay brown but might shift to a lighter shade. When sad or upset his eyes eyes may take dark shades of blue bordering on the edge of black. Denairvuns eyes have the ability to turn many shades of colours but those are the most common when emotions are running high or he is not with his thoughts.
He tries, sometimes in vain, to keep his emotions in check to avoid a change of colour as he sees what some may call a beautiful trait of the Vantha as a weakness rather than a blessing, therefore dark brown is the colour his eyes often remain.

He has a Roman nose that is slightly larger than is standard for his people. There is a small crook or bump in the centre of the bridge, as if it had been broken in the past, that is most visible when seen in profile.

A small mouth, pale in colour and usually stretched thin rests above a small rounded chin with a clearly defined jawline. Not particularly weak looking. but not the jaw of body-builders either.

Overall his face is a mix of heavy and delicate features to give a dark and solemn yet distinctly Vantha look. Not intimidating enough to scare children, but not weak or childish enough to be a target.

He has a small pale scar that runs vertically down his bottom lip, but no other defining features.

Character Concept

Denairvun has a strong inner moral code, one which he will not break easily. This means he is fiercely loyal to friends and allies. Brave and selfless when it comes to people he cares for, willing to take on any task to make their lives easier.
Although this strict moral code and sense of ethics can lead to emotional turmoil when he has no choice but to break it, he also tends to overburden himself when it comes to friends and family and feels guilty when he has to let someone down.
He's rational and logical when needed but tends to act with his emotions which work in accordance to the values he has developed over the years.
Although he likes to think himself as calm, collected, rational and logical that's not usually the case when his character is tested.

He's laid back when it comes to most things. Denairvun has no particular desire to be a hero, the joy and love of the people or anything like that, he has no desire to go involve himself in politics and he is not content with working a mudane job the rest of his life. He prefers to mediate conflict rather than be directly involved, except in matters of combat where arrogance can often get the better of him, he relishes chances at proving and testing his swordsmanship. He longs to follow in his fathers footsteps and thinks that Icewatch is where he belongs, where he may find glory and recognition for his martial skill and perform a duty that is honourable. He knows the calibre of the Icewatch and although it frustrates him he knows he has a lot of training to do mentally and physically. Denairvun feels setting out and seeing the world would be an invaluable experience, one in which he can hone his skills.Yet such trips are treacherous and expensive and he has his responsibilities to attend to.

Denairvun is reserved and observant, preferring to stay at the edges in a social situations. He isn't particularly shy though, he is just content with his own companionship. That's not to say he never socialises it's just that when he does we would prefer a small intimate group over a faceless mass of revellers. He is not one to partake in small talk, and prefers meaningful discussion over idle gossip.

He can be arrogant and impatience with fools and those he feels aren't capable or are too slow for his liking. He hates tedium and quickly grows indolent with those activities. He loves to read however and learn about the world around him, the history's of things long past and even fictional stories that have some emotional weight behind them. He adores interesting cultures and works of art. He also has a passion for arms, swords in particular which he feels are a form of art themselves in the right arms.

Character Background

Denairvun was born in Alvanth, Frostfawn hold, his parents were! people!put name here!.

His dad grew up in Whitevine and had worked as a medic for a few years, he also trained in weaponry. He soon got a job as a guard and eventually met PUT NAME HERE!.

PUT NAME HERE had grown up in Frostfawn and had spent most of her life tending and caring for the animals. On occasion she would have to go out with the hunters to care for an animal that had been injured in the field. This meant that she would often have to survive harsh nights if the trip was too far to make a return by nightfall.

His father eventually moved to Frostfawn to live with his mother. Denairvuns Father was promoted to guard captain soon after, and Denairvun was born a year later.

5 years passed by and Denairvun had a happy comfortable life. In that time Denairvuns father was asked to join the Icewatch, a position he accepted enthusiastically. Being part of Morwens army was a great honour. There was a family celebration although Denairvun doesn't remember much of it.

Denairvun was taught how to use a Longsword by his father from about the age of 6, and they would often train together at the weekends. He also tried to teach him how to use a spear but Denairvun couldn't take to it at first and quickly gave it up, much to his father disappointment.

He would often be told stories of Icewatch and how it only accepted the toughest, most valiant warriors amongst it's ranks. His father would also tell him tales of Icewatch heroes and their exploits, and how they were Morwens closest children and how they were honoured amongst the Vantha. Denairvun used to love these stories and would often dream of becoming a great hero, protecting the city from great evils and other such fanciful daydreams young energetic boys have.

His mother sometimes took him with her on short trips out in to the woods.
They occasionally went out with the hunters and the men would try to teach Denairvun basic Hunting techniques such as tracking and trapping. He was too young to use a bow for most of these trips and when he was old enough his mother refused to let him hunt, even his fathers protests failed to sway her stance on the matter.
She had spent a life caring for the animals and couldn't bear to see her son injure or kill one. This annoyed Denairvun for a time but he was happy learning how to use a blade under the guidance of his father, so he never pursued the issue. As he grew in to young teenager and found work these trips stopped altogether, much to his mothers sadness.

When Denairvun was 14 he managed to land, with the help of his father, a part time job in the Icewatch barracks tending to the weapons and armour. He would often be required to repair wooden hafts for spears or add simple wooden engravings to some of the more luxurious weapons. His other duties involved fixing the old and helping to carve the new wooden training weapons and armour.
Denairvun would train in the yard, on the equipment mostly, and spar with some of the friendly guards and Icewatch soldiers when his work was finished and on a few occasions when he could sneak away without being caught. He didn't present too much of a challenge for the guards, even less so for the few Icewatch that occasionally humoured him. Fortunately the men were helpful when it came to improving his technique and Denairvun listened to their advice and improved over time.

Denairvun spent most of his days around the barracks in his early teenage years. His mother would sometimes protest and force him to come back home after he finished his duties at work to help around the house and so that she could spend some time with him. His father never seemed to mind the time he spent at the barracks. They bonded often enough at weekends.

On his 15th birthday Denairvun received a gift from his father, a blade. Denairvun was ecstatic. Up until this point he had been borrowing swords from the armoury to practice, and now he finally had his own.
The blade was made from strong tempered iron, the hilt was made of reinforced wood wrapped in treated leather, so that it wouldn't degrade, that had been dyed turquoise. The guard was simple iron, but it had been engraved "Aurora Defender".
His dad had named the blade and joked that it would one day defend Avanthal, under the service of the Icewatch and save Morvan herself from death.
His mother did not appreciate such jokes, she had long given up hope of her son turning to less martial endeavours. She knew NAME HERE! was a great father but she couldn't bear having so much of her family in such dangerous jobs. Besides she knew how much this gift meant to Denairvun, though she always hoped the swordplay would remain a hobby rather than turn in to an occupation.
