Character Concept
With both parents working most of the time, and Sye in class, he didn't really have the time or the experience to make friends. Growing up, Sye had spent most of his time in the class room to learn a trade, but his mind was always elsewhere. When he was young, Sye attended a class on the Endal, sparking a desire that would never be extinguished. From that day, he would constantly daydream in class; when he wasn't daydreaming, he was secretly reading books based on the longbow, riding eagles, and the talon sword: the Endals typical tools. He spent years reading these books, sneaking off to train with the talon sword or the longbow.
Sye was never very outgoing, usually too busy dreaming about becoming an Endal or combat. He didn't make friends easily, and usually found it easier not to worry about them. He knows how to interact with others, since he was always interacting with his father's customers, he just doesn't mind not interacting with them. His conversational skills still need work, but he doesn't come off as a barbarian.
Sye is, like most Inarta, highly intelligent. His studies as a child helped with this. He's a fast reader, and quite intelligent when it comes to weapons, having a knack for them.
When Sye finally became an Endal, his mood lightened up a little. He became a little more outgoing, finding it easier to talk and be open to people. He also greatly increased his skills in his weapons and riding. Once he became an Endal, Sye moved out of his parents house and into the Aeries, being like most Inarta and having a sparse family life.
Character History
The Birth: Chyt Anamo was a hard working blacksmith, and Salede was a skilled glassworker in the heart of Wind Reach. The two met during a trade of goods when Chyt needed some glass jewels for an item he was making at the time. He had wondered into Salede's family's shop one beautiful afternoon. After that day, Chyt began putting more and more glass jewels into his products, primarily for an excuse to continue visiting Salede's workplace. A few months passed, and the two had begun to begin a relationship together; a relationship that would eventually lead to the rare birth of their one child: Sye.
Childhood: Sye was given his fathers surname, out of respect for the blacksmith. He lived with his parents in the home that they both had acquired together just before Sye's birth. He was a rare child, being born as an only child while most Inarta births consists of two or three children. His parents viewed this as a blessing, each of them being successful in their artisan jobs. Sye was raised equally by both his mother and his father, each taking time off of their work to raise and teach him. He would also spend the day at the nursery, when both his parents had work to do. After his parents deemed him old enough, Sye began to attend some classes, though most were not too beneficial after his class about the Endal.
Once Sye attended a class on the history of castes, he wanted to become an Endal. He hoped that one day, he would have the chance to go into the cave with a young fledgling and have the chance to be chosen for the Bond. After that class, he set his mind on becoming an Endal. He studied book after book about using a bow, riding, and the sword. He wanted to be a warrior. Sometimes, when he would accompany his father to his blacksmithing shop, Sye would sneak off to the back room and practice with the Talon Swords. He read books about the longbow, and attended a couple of classes on the subject. He studied riding, primarily the Wind Eagle. And he learned the basics of the Eagle.
Sye spent most of his days alone, not being too exceptional with making friends. In class, he would typically keep to himself and then return home afterwards.
The Bond: Growing up, Sye admired the eagles that also called Wind Reach their home. He would gaze at them as they flew overhead. He would watch as the Endal mounted up, preparing for a hunt, or getting prepared for a battle. He always watched carefully, admiring the giant birds. He wasn't always allowed to socialize with the birds like he wanted to. His father had wanted him to become an Avora and pick a trade that he could live from. But Sye wanted more; he wanted to be at the top of the social structure. He wanted to be a rider.
Half a season after Sye turned sixteen, he answered a knock on the door of his parents home. It was one of the Endal that he had been admiring from afar since he could remember. This Endal was a woman. Sye did not know her name, but he knew that she was an Eagle Rider, and he knew why she had come to the house. Sye was told to follow her to the caves of the eagles, which he would gladly do without question. His parents had been at work, but he was sure that they would be told.
Outside the cave, Sye joined a group of twelve people, Sye being the thirteenth and last to arrive. The people gathered were talking among themselves in what looked like pairs of two. It didn't bother Sye, he was perfectly fine in the isolation of not having someone to talk to. Even if he had talked to someone, it wouldn't have been for long. As soon as Sye had arrived, the cave was opened and they were told to enter. They would be there until the eagle fledgling had picked someone, or it became obvious that none of the ones present were meant to be a rider.
Inside the cave, there was a small Wind Eagle fledgling. Sye looked at it, for the time he had before the group of people rushed over to it, with amazement. He had never seen anything, be it creature, structure, or dream, that was as beautiful as the young eagle before him. With the group of people flocking over the fledgling, and no room for Sye to join them, he looked around. In the corner of the cave, Sye noticed a container of meat. The container was empty except for one small piece of meat, the size of Sye's fist. This meat was what appeared to be the piece that the fledgling had not wanted to eat. He looked back at the fledgling and the group of people, feeling discouraged, he sat down next to the food container, feeling as tossed aside as the piece of meat left in it.
Hours passed, the people gathered around the eagle fledgling were talking about who it would pick. Some had tried to touch the bird, only to be gashed by the talons on its feet. Sye continued to sit back, feeling as he had before, unwanted by the bird and uncertain that the bird would bond with him. He continued to watch the group of people and the fledgling, although he could barely see the bird at times due to the people gathered around it.
Sye awoke to a hard thumping on his head, and a slight pressure on his chest. He had dozed off watching the bird, and apparently so had the group gathered around it. They had been in the cave for a while, and he was sure that it was night time, no wonder he fell asleep. He opened his eyes. In front of his face were two large brown eyes, sitting atop a bright yellow beak. He looked down to see that the fledgling was standing on his chest, staring at him in the face. It had been slightly knocking its beak against Sye's forehead in what seemed like an attempt to wake Sye from his sleep. Sye reached his hand up slowly. He wasn't afraid, something told him not to be. With his hand a few inches from the fledgling, it squawked. It wasn't a threatening squawk, but more of a comforting one. The squawk had awoken all of the other people in the cave who had begun to look around for the bird before realizing where it was.
With his hand outstretched, Sye moved closer to the fledgling. The bird looked at his hand and squawked again. Immediately after the bird made its noise, it rubbed its head against Sye's hand. He felt the feathers underneath his fingers; he felt the warmth of the bird on his hand. He smiled.
Sye heard the cave door open, and two Endal emerged from the opening. They announced that the bonding was over and that Sye was chosen by the eagle for the bond. He couldn't believe it. Outside the cave, his parents were waiting for him, they had been notified and asked to attend his emerging from the cave. His father handed him a talon sword, stating that it was his from when he wanted to be an Endal.
The year after: In the weeks following Sye's bonding, his father had told him how proud he was. He had explained that he was even more proud that Sye had become and Endal than if he would have followed in his fathers footsteps and become an Avora.
Sye named his eagle Venora, the male Wind Eagle. He spent every waking moment with the bird and a couple other Endal. These Endal helped him train Venora, and taught him the basics of being an Endal.
Sye watched Venora grow rapidly, becoming full grown around Sye's eighteenth birthday. It was then that Sye saddled up Venora and took his first ride.

Venora
Name: VenoraRace: Wind EagleGender: MaleAge: 4 yearsWing Span: 36.5 feet
Venora isn't as large as some of the other Wind Eagles, but his size is still considered a normal size for the species. His wings and head feathers are dark brown, contrasting with his light brown face. His chest is a white, but not a bright white. His tail is also an off white color, with dark brown stripes on it. On top of Venoras head is a ruffle of feathers, sticking up much like a warriors mohawk.
Verona is a confident bird, he knows his abilities and isn't afraid to use them. He knows that he is strong, and that he has the power to easily kill. But Verona is also quite gentle. He bonded to Sye at a younger age, and grew with the boy. Knowing that Sye is his rider, Verona respects him and those who Sye respects. |
