Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Birthday: 17, Fall, 489 AV
Birthplace: Zelvita

Appearance:
With a height of 5'9" and a somewhat slim build, Sain is not especially physically imposing in appearance. Not the most handsome man out there, but Sain possesses a gentle and soft look. Sain has fair skin, a light stubble covering his chin and lower cheeks, light grey eyes lit with a kind yet firm light, and slightly curly dark brown hair that Sain usually pays little heed to in terms of neatness.

Character Concept

Sain is a gentle and understanding man by nature, sensitive to others's feelings. It is almost unheard of him to be truly angry due to his calmness, but he often feigns anger in a joking manner. With other people, Sain is very easygoing and open-minded, which lets him get along with almost everyone he meets, though he does have a slight dislike of brashly violent individuals. Even with such an agreeable personality, Sain doesn't have many close friends oddly enough, but Sain still highly values everyone around him regardless of who they are. If there is anyone in need of assistance, Sain will definitely lend help to the best of his ability, especially if it requires medical attention of any kind. In severe cases, Sain quickly changes from easygoing to serious and fierce, showing his aptitude in healing and medicine. But he often pushes himself too much in these situations to the point of exhaustion. Despite outside appearances, Sain has a sadder and more quiet side to himself. Sain enters a very brooding and melancholic state when alone, haunted by the loss of his parents. He tries hiding this side of himself from others, as he feels it hinders his daily life and work.

One thing Sain makes clear to almost everyone is that he is a doctor, not a healer. He points out that he lacks a Gnosis mark from Rak'keli and relys on medical knowledge and herbalism to heal. It is odd why he states he is a doctor despite being a doctor's assistant]; is it a shocking display of pride from this selfless man? Or is it something else?

Character History

Sain's father, Marus Kayun, was a doctor and herbalist who had studied at Mura to join the Opal Order but for an untold reason ceased his studies and returned to Zeltiva and married Sain's mother Chelse. As a child, Sain showed his kind personality from an early age with a natural curiosity for his father's work, so his father taught him basic herbalism and the principles of pacifism, to heal anyone regardless who they are, from an early age.So Sain lived happily... but as many lives in Mizaharf go, this happiness was not eternal. Sain's mother fell deathly ill when Sain was 12, and despite all of his father's efforts, she passed away. His mother's death greatly affected the young Sain, but it placed in him a fierce desire to learn more of medicine and become a doctor, to never let anyone die in front of him again. In time as he grew Sain entered the university and studied there, his skill with treating the ill and wounded greatly increasing as well as his knowledge of medicinal herbs. The university also opened his eyes to the wider world of Mizahar, and a desire to travel through and aid anyone he met grew inside Sain.

During his time in the university, an old friend of his father's came to Zeltiva: Farin Duren, a healer in his own respect. Sain had never heard of this man before, but Farin brought to Sain's father an opportunity to come to Sunberth with him, as there was a need for a healer there. Sain was wary of this, as he knew of how dangerous Sunberth could be. Yet, his father agreed to come for some time to Sain's surprise. As Sain's father left, he gave Sain his many journals on medicine he logged in, and left for Sunberth. Little did Sain know that this would be the last time he would see his father alive.

Seasons passed, and no news of his father from Sunberth reached Sain. Sain had in the meantime finished his classes at the university and was working at the infirmary as part of the medical staff. That was when Farin returned... alone. Farin wearily stumbled into Sain's cottage one day while Sain was perusing over his father's journal. Startled, Sain asked Farin what happened, and Farin brought out the grim news: Marus Kayun was dead. In one of the riots in Sunberth, Marus and Farin were trying to gather the wounded from the rioting to treat them, when a group of rioters surrounded Marus while he was pulling a person to safety and became separated from Farin. At the end of the riot, Farin looked for Sain's father and found lying on the streets, beaten to death. Farin buried the body at Sunberth due to circumstances, as he told Sain. Sain was struck by this news and weeped bitterly; while he was, Farin slipped away with a quiet word of condolence.

Sain tried overcoming his sadness of losing his father by working obsessively, taking around the first volume of his father's journals with him everywhere as he treated patients. To add to further loss, after one tiring day he came to his cottage to find it ransacked and ruined. Almost everything inside the house was stolen, the herbs he had collected dashed to the ground, the furniture in pieces, but the most painful of his losses was the fact his father's journals were all gone. He had since fixed up the house, but that was a loss that could not be replaced. As the days pass and Sain continued working as a doctor's assistant, Sain remembered the desire he had in his time at university to travel through Mizahar as a traveling doctor. And so he plans to take this dream on, once he becomes a qualified doctor.

Heirloom: A weathered looking journal with a brown leather cover, this was one of many journals Sain's father wrote in to detail diseases and cures he had encountered.
