Appearance: As a Benshira, Zakar's most prominent features are his dark skin and sky-blue eyes. His black hair is short, but long enough to show off wild curls that are often hidden by a scarf wrapped around his head. His facial features are very thin and hawk-like, very fitting to his slender stature. He stands at an underaverage height of 5 feet 10, and weighs 142 pounds.
Character Concept Zakar has always been an emotional character. From a young age, he would go from over-excited and happy to angry and depressed within minutes. He was always reprimanded by his family for not having any control over himself, and like any Benshira, he would often pray to Yahal for some peace of mind. Though he usually has good intentions, Zakar always faced a lapse of judgement and made clumsy decisions throughout his life, often being teased by his siblings for being the "black sheep" of the family.
After the recent, more tragic events of Zakar's past, he began to lose faith in his god and allow dark thoughts to cloud his mind more often than he would originally allow. However, he is not always sulking but rather experiences a range of moods throughout his day, still unable to completely control his emotions despite his best efforts.
Zakar often feels more connected with animals than humans, such as his mare, Taheyatt. He is very aware of nature, and having lived in the desert his whole life, values life in many forms, and hates seeing waste or excess of any kind.
Character History Though born in the vast desert of Eyktol, Zakar's family settled in Yahebah at a young age where the boy grew up for the majority of his life. He was a very turbulent boy, often causing mischief and getting into fights with his two older brothers, Saleh and Mehrel. His parents forgave the turmoil around the home as long as the boys helped and learned the ways of the Benshira. Zakar was a helpful boy, but often made clumsy mistakes when left to his own devices, and his own feeling of guilt would often far surpass any kind of punishment his parents could give him.
Zakar's father noticed that the boy experienced far stronger bouts of self-loathing than the average child and sought to spend more time with him and teach him more about their patron deity, Yahal. Like any Benshira, Zakar started praying to Yahal and searched fervently for any possible signs the god would send, to no avail. Sometimes this upset him, and his father would remind him that patience, calm and trust were the key to Yahal's faith.
Zakar grew up and learned to care for animals with his father, who owned and maintained a stable. There they cared for horses, camels and falcons that either lived in Yahebah to be sold or were brought in by weary travelers who needed a place for their animals to be kept and cared for. He would spend his leisure time with his family, dancing and playing music to forget the world's hardships before the next morning. The only frustrations he felt were towards Yahal, though he never dared express them. for his whole life he did not experience a single sign of the god's presence, despite spending hours, even days at a time praying, offering him sacrifices, almost demanding him to make an appaearance.
His brothers, on the other hand, were constantly blessed. One day, Saleh returned home with a beautiful woman named Malak, going on and on about how Yahal had led him directly to her. The family welcomed her with open arms, demanding to learn more about her. She was a well-travelled woman, apparently having gone through many parts of the world seeking knowledge, to one day finally return to her homeland and become a teacher to Benshira children. Beautiful and smart, no one suspected that part of her knowledge consisted of having learned the dangerous magic of hypnotism.
Zakar also approved of her at first, and felt proud of his brother Saleh for having found such a perfect woman. While they prepared for the marriage, Zakar helped around the home until he experienced a strange feeling when he spent some to with her, alone. Malak spoke to him casually, yet he felt an incredibly strong attraction and lust for her that he had not experienced before. Little did he know that she was hypnotysing him, and continued to do so for weeks, finding pleasure in toying with his emotions.
When Zakar discovered Malak's evil manipulations, she used her powers to pit his brother against him, and in self defense he killed Sahel. In a fit of rage, he murdered Malak, and after it was all over, he fled Yahebah in absolute terror at what he had just done.
He travelled the desert aimlessly for days until he was near collapsing for he had not taken the time to bring water or provisions. It was when he had finally accepted his fate that a caravan of Eypharians came upon his near-dead body, and decided to take him back to Ahnatep as a slave.
For the first month or so, he attempted to commit suicide, but the Eypharians made sure he stayed alive, punishing him severely after each attempt. Eventually, he decided to simply survive, and served his masters as they pleased. He held no desire to escape until he fell upon a flyer speaking about the long-lost civilization of Syka and the expedition to re-build it. After a few days of pondering, he saw it as a sign for him to start a new life, to somehow escape from his masters in Ahnatep and somehow make his way to Riverfall.
It was a while before he found a way to get out of Ahnatep. He found opportunity just when he was about to give up, when he met a Drykas traveler whom he had befriended about a year ago in Yahebah. After learning about Zakar's unfortunate condition the man promised to get him out of Ahnatep and take him back to the Grasslands. A few days later, the man broke Zakar out of his prison, bought him a horse and supplies as well as some mizas, and together they joined a caravan for cyphrus.
The Journey was long and arduous, and between the deserts of Eyktol and the grasslands of Cyphrus, Zakar faced a perilous journey. Finally, just as Summer began, he landed in Riverfall, glad to be able to settle for a little before the long expedition ahead.
