Since the waning weeks of spring, notice has been floating through the city of Zetiva - a new opera has been written, and will be produced this summer. What's more - this is not simply an opera, but the beginning of a sprawling cycle of five operas, which will connect together to tell the stories of the heroes of Zeltiva's finest hour: The Circumnavigation of Mizahar by Kenabelle Wright.

The libretto is by one of the shining lights of the city: Mrs Emily Hurston, the wife of a professor of History, and a considerable patron of the arts, and the music has been composed by up and coming composer Ms Beatrice Lanky. The project has the considerable support of both the University and the Sailor's Guild, who share an interest in the subject matter, of course. The fifth of the five operas will, if all goes according to plan, debut in the open air as a public performance, involving the use of actual ships on Kenabelle Wright Day, this very year.

But that's, of course, still a long way off.

And just where things stand now, the artists, craftsmen and performers of the city are abuzz with excitement. From an artistic perspective, this is the artistic event of the year, almost unquestionably, and will feature the work of almost all of the finest artists of the city - from carpenters to painters, to dancers, to musicians, to actors, to caterers, to everything in between. And from a fiduciary standpoint... many of the underwriters of the play are at no shortage of funds, and are not sparing expense.

Finally, to patriots of the city, this is a chance to remember what makes Zeltiva the great capital of the earth's oceans and minds. The city has been battered and bruised. 1/3 of the population has died in a plague, the recovery from the Djed storm still leaves scars on some of the most beautiful parts of the city, the Denvali are struggling to integrate into their new home, and the mysterious, unsettling events around the stone tower and the ancient quarter continue to mysify and frighten. But Zeltiva is a city bent on the impossible, a city where the civic spirit of trust, learning, courage, and wisdom have lead the people to achieve great things. Kenabelle Wright, Bethany Edgetower, and all of the crew are symbols of that proud heritage. Its for this reason that the great institutions of the city are supporting the effort.

The first two plays are entitled The God's Doctor and The White Plague. The first will follow the youth and formative years of Kenabelle Wright and Bethany Edgetower, who are set to be the central characters, its whispered, of the first three plays. The second follows the beginning of the circumnavigation through the dark times of the white plague, and on to the meeting with Morwen.

The auditions, and hiring are open for work on this play. All roles are being accepted - though of course, to play, say, Morwen, or Kenabelle, or someone similarly mythical, one need be very talented. But even those just beginning on their artistic journey will be welcomed to play in the chorus, or to work on stagecraft, etc. Auditions will be held on the second of Summer at the Lightshow. The performer is encouraged to prepare a portfolio displaying their specific skills, and auditions will begin at five bells lasting through the midnight - there is much work to be done and no time to waste!

OOCTryouts for the play are open, and are nto limited to performers - if you have a skill you'd like to contribute, please feel free to tryout. If you are not sure about a skill, feel free to drop me a line. Everything from business acumen to cooking skill is necessary to run an opera - they're amazingly complex organizations.

We'll be performing a few threads throughout the season for rehearsals and stage work, and then, at the end, will perform the operas in a thread - vignettes thereof, at any rate. If you wish to rserve time on your calendar, we will do two rehearsal threads (Summer 40, Summer 60) and one performance (Summer 80). ICly, your character will be attending and working outside these as well, of course. If you wish a thread outside the regular rehearsals, please let me know.
