Avind Coolwater

Appearance

Race: Vantha
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Birthday: 36th day of Fall, 493.
Birthplace: Avanthal

Appearance:

Standing at 5'8” and weighing 150 pounds, Avind is on the lean side when it come to his physique, a side effect of his more scholarly ambitions. Nonetheless, he still manages to keep his body healthy and well toned with the eventual spear training session every time he feels the need for it.

Although his skin would usually be more of a coppery hue, living among the desert people of Eyktol darkened his skin, giving it a richer shade of brown. And just like the sun of Eyktol affected his skin color, the people also changed some of his habits. While most of his brethren would have long braided hair, Avind chose to cut them shorter. Two inches inches long and of a deep black color, they shimmers with a dark blue, a quirk from his Vantha blood.

And that's not the only quirk he inherited. Like all Vantha, his eyes, usually of a lighter shade of blue, change as his mood goes. Spots of brown can be seen as he grows frustrated or angry, green when sad or afraid and, finally, blue for all other emotions. The more powerful they are, the deeper the color.

As for his clothes, although he usually goes with whatever people wears around him, he still carries around an old felt cloak. Of a dark brown, this well worn cloak has followed him from Avanthal to Zeltiva and he has no intention to throw it away just yet.

Character Concept

In most instances, jovial would be the best way to describe Avind. A kidder and even trickster sometimes, there is very little that can ruin his mood and even less that can make him angry. Often coming as impulsive and somewhat inattentive, it is not always because he doesn't care or doesn't find you interesting but rather because the world is fascinating to his eyes. With always a new thing to see, a new place to explore, new people to meet, it can be hard to decide where to begin and where to stop. But even if he can be all over the place at time, do not confuse him for an airhead for knowing things is one of his greatest pleasure.

Indeed, knowledge is what he loves, understanding is what he strives for. A scholar to the core, his many field of studies and love of books would betray the more serene and patient side of his personality. Give him something or someone interesting to contemplate and his attention span will drastically improve. His inquisitive mind truly relentless, he does not only look for useful information and facts but will always love a good story. Tales of epic journeys, monster slayers, urban legends, it doesn't matter. He will listen to all of them, remember them and share them as even more complex and fantastic stories. It doesn't matter if it's not exactly the truth, as long as it can bring a smile or two, all is fair.

Character History

Short version :
Born from the union of a Coolwater father and a Frostfawn mother, Avind was much of a troublesome child. Not so because he would get into fights and do all these things usually forbidden for good reasons, but because his curiosity proved itself boundless. Being taught the use of spears and bows early on, as well as the arts of carving and writing, his love for knowledge, for new things, bloomed early on and he was quick to add even a little bit of magical knowledge to his talents. There would be no hills, trees or rocks that he would not climb, no roads, beaches, plains that he would not thread, he would go everywhere and come back with the most fascinating tales. In many ways, he was lucky that the frozen lands surrounding Avanthal were safest in Mizahar, he surely would have died very young and very clueless otherwise.

However, as safe as the world might have seemed at that young age, it was still very dangerous. He would be reminded of this barely a year before his coming of age. On one unfortunate day, while fishing, his father would disappear, never to be seen again. They would never find the body but some brave men would bring, days later, his fishing boat back, some of his belongings and his precious spear. Devastated by the news and now certain of his father's demise, Avind became a brooding and morose young man. He secluded himself for a season, threading the shores of Avanthal with no real purpose. But even with a broken spirit, his inherent curiosity, his good heart and his thirst for knowledge would eventually come back and come back they did.

Thus, it was no surprise when, merely days after his coming of age, the youngster announced that he was to leave, abandoning the beloved frozen city for exploration. Promising to bring back tales of wonders, stories of exotic women, trinkets and gizmos from a different world, he left for the great crystal city of Lhavit. There, he would find himself work as a scribe, apply for magic tutoring and devour the knowledge contained in its impressive library. He lived there for a full year, learning more about the ways of the world.

Then, during the fall of 510 AV, wishing to see more of the exotic world he had been exposed to, Avind left Lhavit for the city of Yahebah. There, he would stay only for two seasons, working as a woodcarver He would further train his spear fighting and archery, buying a book on reimancy and Spiritism whenever he could. He would learn about trading and more about the ways of the world and finally, leave once more, for more adventures. His next stop would be Anhatep.

There, he would live for two years, working as a scribe he would quickly learn about the gift of storytelling coursing through his vein, delighting the locals with tales of the north and its ice queen, the star city of Lhavit and other fantastic, although quite exaggerated tales. But even Ahnatep exotic luxuries could not keep him forever and, after hearing about Zeltiva's famous university, he would finally sail away on a merchant vessel bound for the center of trade and learning.
