Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

A Study in Poison (Loken)

7th of Summer, 513AV

There was a steady stream of people wandering in the market, their clothing blending in with the brightly colored tents. There was a constant sound of laughter, and haggling, and general noise that accompanied a large group of people. It was jovial, and Nailah found herself easing into the atmosphere it gave off but keeping a brisk pace, her satchel bouncing with each step.

Though each stall had interesting trinkets, foods or items for use she paid them no heed for she was looking for a specific thing. Do they even sell poisons within a city like this?

Nailah drummed her fingers on the edge of her satchel, and speed up, standing on her tip toes to try and see over the heads of people to make sure she was not missing anything. It was important that she practice this now while she had free time, especially if she wanted a proper job within the city. She knew little of the poison craft and as such she couldn’t even give any help to those injured by poison, she would be less than useless in that sort of situation. It bothered her more than she cared to admit.

There it is! Nailah grinned in delight at having finally found the stall she was looking for. It was located under a bright green tent, and held a variety of plants and vials. She hadn’t thought about how plants as well as animals could create poisons, although it seemed fairly obvious now. A medicine with the wrong amount or taken too often was not helpful to the patient.

Glad of her size, Nailah slipped through the throng of people with a soft ‘excuse me’ here and there until she was standing directly in front of the stall. She did not buy right away but instead looked around the stall, taking note of what was available, and how the vials of liquid were all kept behind the stall for safekeeping. Maybe they’ll have a book I can put to use.

A Study in Poison (Loken)

Postby Loken on June 21st, 2013, 5:58 am

Loken let his gaze drift from a particularly dark blue Akalak towards the brightly colored blue tent the merchant sat under. He could only assume the young woman next to the merchant had crafted the jewelry and decorations that covered the rainbow colored blanket. Loken really didn't even try to understand what the Akalak said to him in the Tukant language so he smiled, lifted a hand as a goodbye then continued on his journey traveling from tent to tent through the bazaar market place known as the Zhongjie Warren. Compared to the colorful people, clothing, and tents Loken stuck out like a sore thumb. Dressed completely in the color black from his long wool coat which he wore over his long sleeve linen shirt and pants. Walking through the crowd of people was made easy as he held the hooked blade of his tiger hook sword in his right hand. Most people avoiding walking towards him to avoid running into the curve of the blade. It was a simple common sense tactic to make people avoid him, despite being in control of his emotions Loken hated walking in crowds. His ever foot fall causing a light thud as his ankle high black boots followed a path through a crowed of people towards a green tent.

Loken's eyes widened as he found a tent that seemed to have the items he was looking for. He rolled his shoulders to adjust the backpack that pressed against his shoulder blades to make himself more comfortable as he stood looked over the merchants items. For a brief second he glanced towards his left towards the Konti who was already at the stall before he arrived. She reminded him of the Konti who he worked for at the sanctuary simply because they shared the same race causing him to smirk for a moment before shifting his gaze back to a group of herbs on the stall. Loken picked up a small vine to hold it up to his nose and sniffed it lightly. It had a distinct pine scent that caused the black clad human to quirk an eye brow. “Subtle hints of pine." Speaking to the vibrantly violet eyed Vantha woman who appeared to be running the stall. "This is a rogue vine isn't it?” The woman reaffirmed Loken's curiosity with a nod as he put the vine back down.

From his previous study of poisons he had memorized the ingredients of poisons in the Vine, root, and snake poison families. Since wasn't at the tent to buy ingredients he looked at the woman with a soft smile. “I am looking for items necessary to produce poisons and by extension make antidotes. I believe a philterer's identification kit would suffice.” The Vantha woman brought forward a small bag that made up the kit. Loken started to look through the contents of the bag looking through several of the measured ingredients within, taking note of the simple tools inside. Examining the knives, tweezers, and small mortar and pestle before looking at the variety of vials.

He glanced towards the Konti standing next to him to offer her a warm greeting because he had been standing next to her for a extended period of time. He believed it to be the most appropriate social protocol to break the awkwardness between strangers. "Hello. Don't let me bother your shopping. My transaction is in progress so I am simply browsing." Smiling as he shifted to one side away from her to give her a few more inches of space while he looked at the kit.

A Study in Poison (Loken)

Nailah watched the man approach the stall on the sake of his clothing alone. The heat was not bad at this time of day but his clothes seemed uncomfortable, and he carried a sword. She watched him curiously for it seemed they were here for same thing. She only nodded silently when he spoke but watched him for a chime, then spoke to his nose quietly.

“Hello, you are not…” she paused looking for a suitable word, “troubling my shopping…are you a healer?”

Uncomfortable. she thought, plucking up a bunch of seaweed, she knew many things could be used for poisons but aquatic plants were not something she had thought of. Looking to the stall owner briefly she held up the bunch, “What does seaweed…make?”

“Phantom’s shell usually, it would need a few other types of seaweed. We have a selection you can choose from.” The Vantha woman gestured to where Nailah had the bunch from with a smile and moved to attend another customer. The young woman stood awkwardly for a moment before picking up a few ingredients, she wouldn’t be able to do much with them yet but she would get a book as well.

Turning her gaze to the black clothed gentleman’s’ nose once more, Naliah picked up a few items she would thought she might need.
“…what are you going to…create with that?”

She gestured to the identification bag then paid for her own supplies, nodding her thanks to the stall owner and checking that she had been given everything correctly. Five pieces of both red and brown seaweed, eight ounce jar of centipedes and a jar with three seaslugs. She was not sure what each was for but no doubt she could find out, from there she might be able to see if maybe a medicine already existed to counter it or if she could make one.

OOCNot sure how much this would cost. Will insert price as soon as I figure it out :D
