He tried to keep it long as he preferred, but years of experience had taught him that the drifting hair in his eyes while working was frustrating and giving fever crazed patients and opportunity to grab something attached to you was a bad idea. And so Ceika, with much sadness, had cut his hair short. He attempted to keep his face clean shaven but soon learned that this would require more effort than was worth. Even if he shaves in the morning, a thick shadow of a deeper red would cover the lower portion of his face by sundown. He does his best to keep himself neat though. With nothing to frame them, his deep blue eyes stood out on his pale face, accompanied only by a large spattering of freckles across his nose. In fact, the freckles had long since spred from his face and across his torso and shoulders. They hid under the layer of hair on his arms and chest like birds in the grass. His windmark was not large or conspicuous. Indeed the only piece of it you can see with his clothes on is a small beginning of a knot at the base of his skull. The mark travels the entire length of his spine to the cleft of his buttocks and is composed of an intricate series of knots and details. Strider: Tsvenus, 4 years of age, Gildling (Dun coloring) A rather mischievous strider, he often likes to play around with Ceika and will nip at him in jest when his back is turned. He is fiercely loyal and dislikes anyone but Ceika touching him. A fast runner, he is surefooted and is a dear friend to Ceika. Character Concept Ceika is, above all, a healer of the Opal Clan. He feels it is his duty to the web and those of the Endrykas to help those in need of aid, whether that be to heal the ailing or to put to end the suffering of the mortally wounded. He is kind, more so to children and animals, but tends to turn abrupt and gruff if you do not reach your point in speaking quickly enough. He, like the rest of his people, has no qualms in speaking his own opinion out and making it be heard. He walks at a gentle pace, but rides hard and fast. An injury to his back from a Glassbeak when he was a child has left him with crippling muscle spasms in his back if he rides or does any activity too long without stretching. They can be dealt with one of three ways: massaged out by another, waited out (only if there is no alternative), or he can take a relaxant that knocks him completely out for approximately four hours. He only takes the relaxant when he is in his family's pavilion where he knows that they will watch over him. Because of this injury, hunting (which requires patience and long hours) is difficult, if not painful, for him. He relies on his knowledge of edible plants and uses any profits from selling his medicines to supplement his diet with meat. Character History Ceika is the third son born to the Ankal, but is not from any of his marriages. A brief affair with an Inarta woman in Endrykas left his father with two children. His daughter was taken back to the mountain with her mother to be trained in the craftsmanship of glass that the Avora class of Inarta are renowned for. Ceika has never met his twin sister or his mother and they are rarely spoken about by anyone in his father's pavilion. He earned his name of Floodrunner when he was 27 years of age. It was Spring and the rivers of the Sea of Grass were swelled with the snowmelt. Once safe grazing lands for the season were covered in a torrent of water that rose well above the waist of his uncle, the tallest man in the family. One afternoon, he was out looking for Bullrush root for the Master Healer he was studying under when he saw a faint shape in the distance. He ran closer and saw that it was a colt, long separated from his mother, struggling to keep his head above the rushing flow of the water. Without thinking he dropped his hard-earned bundle and ran into the water towards the colt. After a long 30 chimes he and the colt drug themselves upon the grass. They returned to the camp cold, wet, and impossibly muddy, but happily bonded together. He chose the name Floodrunner to acknowledge the day he received his Windmarks and found his strider Tsvenus. Ceika continued his training under the master healer and is now considered a healer in his own right. He travels where the web calls him to help those in need.
