![]() ![]() ![]() Name: Veyani Rova Birthday: Winter 86, 495 A.V. Age: 17 Race: Symenestra Gender: Female Height: 5’3’’ Weight: 105 lbs ![]() Small and slight, Veyani is not one of much intimidation and seems to boast no physical prowess. But her unusually long limbs and cold lilac eyes are a dead giveaway for her Symenestra blood, so one would be wise to take caution around her. Her pale face and fair skin befit her race, as do the long, the black nails curved beyond her fingers. Veyani lets her onyx colored hair grow long down her back, not bothering to style it beyond simple braids. Her dress is simple, yet elegant. When in public she wears her standard Symenestran exoskeleton, but finding it rather stifling, Veyani prefers flowing silk dresses in soft, pleasing colors. In all, the effect of her appearance is that of prettiness, but not beauty – Veyani has too much child still left in her to ever be given that praise. She gives of an air innocence and fragility, and for a girl only just seventeen this impression is not that far off. But a closer look at her visage reveals an unmistakable intelligence. An occasional smirk or faint flicker in her eyes uncovers a Symenestran cunning that would give anyone pause. ![]() ![]() Veyani is a perfect blend of book smarts and childish naiveté. A simple conversation with her would show her good breeding and education, and for some that would be all. However, the girl has no concept of what life is like outside of Kalinor and if one watches her closely, they would know it. What she knows of the world is only that found in books or stories told by traders and surrogates. So, her view points are horribly limited and she can become easily fascinated by something which others would think of as quite ordinary. Yet, her intelligence tempers her inexperience, and Veyani is able to do well on her own by the strength of her sensibilities and her auristic training. She can gauge the feeling of a room or a subtle shift in someone’s attitude much more easily than most, which gives helps her navigate situations more wisely. But in contrast to this sound judgment is an equal passion for mischief. While she’s not really one for pranks or tricks, Veyani does sport a very dark humor. She loves to watch her company squirm after a particularly morbid joke - which in all reality, aren’t that funny to anyone but Veyani. Outwardly Veyani is strong willed, even stubbornly so, and to a large degree this is true. To strike out on her own and carve a life out of the dangerous world of the unknown demands strength of character, which Veyani does possess. Yet, her inner thoughts are much less stable, as she is still but a child away from home. Self-doubt and fear constantly creep into the darkest portions of her mind, and she can become overwhelmed by the gravity of her exodus from Kalinor. Although she has strayed from her race's traditional Viratas belief, Veyani still believes that blood ties are paramount. And no matter how far she has traveled away from her people, the blood which pumps through her veins will always bring her back home again. Yet, this can create some rather awkward situations for Veyani. She highly values the purity of one’s bloodline. So those who cannot produce a sound lineage, or worse, whose blood has been mixed with other races, are subjected to her judgement. ![]() Unlike most of the Symenestra today, Veyani Rova was born out of traditional Symenestran marriage. No surrogates or other races were brought in for her birth. Her lineage is pure. Of course, like almost all other infants born this way, Veyani was completely toxic to her mother – a parasite which slowly burned its way through its host and into the world. Even though the good medics in the infirmary cut Veyani from her mother’s womb in hope that the poison would not spread, their efforts were in vain. Veyani’s mother barely made it through the next hour after childbirth before the bane consumed the last flickers of her life. Such is the way of the Symenestra. ![]() Duvineth’s choice in his preferred child spawns from his heavily Esterian views. Unlike most Symenestras, Duvineth believes that only those within their race should breed as to keep their bloodlines pure. Any outside force, like the surrogates from the Harvest, should be shunned as breeding partners as they taint the pure lineage of the Symenestra. This highly controversial belief is not one largely held by the others in their race, and so Duvineth keeps his opinions within the confines of his family Web. However, these relatively new beliefs have created an obvious tension between in their household, considering Adanas’ humble beginnings. Both Duvineth and his wife had once agreed with the necessity of a surrogate mother for the survival of their race. But after their son’s birth, something changed in Duvineth’s mind and he became set in his Esterian ways, convincing his wife to have a natural birth for their second child. This conflict in parentage is what sets Adanas and Veyani apart, and what gives Veyani such a heavy favor from her father. Raised in a strict Esterian Web, Veyani also holds to those beliefs, through privately like her father. The esteem which Duvineth gave to his daughter, as well as her own pride, estranged Adanas from his family and pitted the two siblings against each other. Adanas grew strong of both body and mind, excelling through his studies and taking part in Harvests at a very young age, in hopes of earning some of his father’s praise. But Duvineth’s mind was already set upon his quick-witted daughter. Veyani also had a sharp mind for learning, and she found herself supplementing her school lessons with individual studies in Kalinor’s library. The young girl devoured books from other cultures and races, ever curious about what the world above the caverns was like. But her main intrigue from the foreign land above was that of magic. In Kalior, magic is quite a rarity. Their school teaches little on the subject, and any lessons it does have are strictly theoretical, not practical. This utter lack of magical knowledge frustrated the small Veyani, and so any scrap of information she could glean from the library was a coveted one. However, simply reading about type of magic quickly bored Veyani, and she was left with a yearning for more. So, to the tradesmen she went. Every time a new caravan of merchants or herd of surrogates descended into the caverns, Veyani was one of the first to greet them. The travelers found the child to be pleasant, curious, and incredibly easy to talk to. Her bubbling curiosity always revolved around magic, and every now and again Veyani found some passerby who was willing to actually show her a glimpse of the pure Djed flowing in their body. Her hunger for magics grew. And at age ten, Veyani finally found a willing instructor in the magical arts. The woman was an originally a surrogate, tricked into following a leader of the Harvest down into the caves which would hold her death. Her name was Maritta, an Aurist from the cold reaches of Avanthal. While her charming Harvester managed to hide his true intentions from her all-seeing vision, Maritta saw the dark hunger from pouring from the Symenestra people the moment she arrived in Kalinor. They meant to kill her. Not knowing how much time she had, Maritta was frantic for a way out. And her escape was met with Veyani. Veyani’s thirst for knowledge bled from all hues of her aura, and Maritta offered up a trade: the study of Auristics for her life. The bargain was too sweet to ever pass up. Veyani pleaded on behalf of the auristic to the ruling couple. The knowledge which Veyani would gain from this tutor was well worth the cost of her life, and they knew it. So, a deal was made, and Veyani gained a new instructor who guided her through the visionary paths of the auristic. Seasons came and went, and Veyani’s magic grew by her own hand rather than a teacher’s. However, with every passing year came a slow creeping feeling in the back of her mind. The cycle of life and death was more close-knit with the Symenestra than any other culture, and its grip began to suffocate the girl. Veyani was nearing the age of childbirth, and therefore nearing her own death. Fear overcame the girl. In a fit of panic, Veyani fled the Kalinor for the surface, hidden within a band of traveling merchants. Where they took her, she didn’t care, as long as it was as far away from the deadly caves as she could get. |
