Character Concept
Holt is driven in his path by the need to explore and discover. This urge was given birth to from a dream he had when he was a lot younger but has since never dissipated. He has a very even temper and has shown a curiosity in learning things, he prefers to learn about magic and history, but Philosophy is also there as well. He is a confident and upbeat person who enjoys company as much as solitude, yet despite that is generally very indifferent to people when he first meets them. He is agreeable and modest but tends to be very frank and unreserved, what you see is what you get with Holt. Despite his curiousness, it is tempered with a steady and vigilant approach. He also has the capacity to be very greedy but is very forgiving. He's never really taken a moment to consider any kind of relationship with the opposite gender, his desire to learn more is his driving force. But he has not taken to following any god. His stance on the whole matter is he has not seen one that he can truly respect, whether that would change if he knew Glav Navik was now a deity is a different matter entirely. He also tends to have a mean-spirited sense of humour and talks in his sleep. |

History
My Father, Stephan, was a bookseller and my Mother, katya, was a servant for the Syliran Knights. My family were a very poor family, barely earning enough to support themselves. My family had very little influence but my father and mother had a lot of connections in both the trade districts and the castle. Whether this was due to eavesdropping or actual bartering and conversation though, didn't matter. My family are hard workers and would always do their duty. While my parents loved me dearly, I was often left in the care of others, including at the orphanage and temple, while they worked. I learnt bookselling through my father. I've worked on his stall for much of my life. I'm not sure if I really helped or hindered him but I learnt a lot doing it. He would also send me out searching for books at other stalls. It was because of this that I learnt to barter and deal with people. It was also how I met Vergo. Vergo was a mage, he had a lot of books on magic, and I was quickly taken by them. It was he who initiated me into reimancy. I brought a lot of books from him, mainly for my own pleasure to help me study this new talent. I met a man called Vergo while I was searching for books for my father. When I first met him I was only interested in the books he sold. But I quickly learnt about reimancy. I was hooked from that point and scrapped together enough money to have Vergo initiate me. Vergo trained me in the use of reimancy. Not long after learning reimancy, I had a dream. I saw a city in flames with a figure stood above it, commanding them. I don't know what this means and I've never spoken to anyone about it. Eventually I had one of my friends from the Knights teach me how to use a sword. Spurred on by the dream and fearing that mage I saw was me, I got ready to Syliras. I needed to find a way to control what ever this was and to learn more about my magic. I was a bit naive when I left Syliras, hastily picking a group to travel with. I didn't understand at the time that they were a group of thugs. We attacked innocent people, as soon as I knew what was going on, I made a break for it. I managed to escape for now, but I have a feeling they'll be back for me. The Djed Storm changed things for Holt. He wondered what had become of his home, having left not long before the storm. Fortunately, as the storm came, he was resting in a cave. Using his reimancy, he sealed the cave and waited a few days before emerging. He has no idea if his family survived the storm but he could gain from stories he'd heard that they might have survived. |
