Sorry!I don't know why it didn't occur to me to post this thread in Thunder Bay where it belonged ... well, all fixed now! ^^
Timestamp: 4th of Summer, 513 AV; eleventh bell
"Thank you, Endal!" Arandolya called as the winds stirred from the wings of the Eagle buffeted her upturned face. A small nod and dipped beak were the acknowledgement, the bonded pair soon disappearing to where-ever they planned to hunt for the day. She was thankful for the lift down, especially on a late rise such as today, since the bells it would have taken to walk were ones wasted. Arandolya knew she could not risk falling short of the pay again this season, and planned to spend the day (along with many, many others) within Thunder Bay's surrounding forest.
The forest was lush in the Summer, light filtering through the trees in a welcoming manner. It almost invited her inwards, like a cozy home might. A second home, it almost was, especially these forests within the Summer. Abundant with prey and income, Arandolya would live here the entirety of the summer if she could (and would) hunt for that long. Even so, she couldn't deny the innate beauty of hunting here, looking forwards to the day. As she ventured towards the treeline, Arandolya adjusted her quiver and backpack, brushing the top feathers of her arrows in an unconscious reassurance.
Under the shade of the trees, Arandolya began to watch her step. Keeping a keen eye on the branches and the undergrowth for prey, Arandolya avoided stepping on twigs and the like, placing her feet with care. The hum of animals masked any scuffle Arandolya did make, also serving as a joyful reminder of how plentiful the season was, and to take advantage of such bounty. The food storage of Wind Reach had run out the past Winter, and the young woman was grateful it hadn't occurred earlier when catching enough for the Inarta would have been near impossible. Though she hoped it wouldn't happen this season, Arandolya knew the only thing she could do was catch prey.
Pausing mid-step, Arandolya moved back a pace, nocking an arrow in her bowstring as she shifted. Her sharp gaze watched the foliage above her, drawstring at anchor point as she aimed it slanted upwards. It would be unsafe (and extremely stupid) to shoot directly upwards with a moving target, as it could come back down and make her the prey instead. Closing one eye, Arandolya patiently waited, frozen in her pose. The leaves rustled before her, and a flash of fur was enough to send an arrow flying through the foliage. A distressed squeak along with the noise of a small thing falling drew Arandolya around the tree, silencing the creature with a jerking twist of her hands. Though the squirrel wouldn't exactly feed many, it was meat, and that was good enough for her.
Now, Arandolya thought as she looked around herself, Which way? She had gotten lost hunting before, and Arandolya had no plans of redoing history, making a small marking near the base of a tree to point her to the left, heading in that direction. Better safe than sorry, right?
