Jorin goes for a walk on the beach

Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

"Why not just be a guard then? If you can't get bounties because of guards...It really only makes sense. Don't you think?".

Malla's notion made Duce sick to his stomach. To think being a guard. To stay in this town and serve with all of those boasting Akalak. He wanted to go out and see the world to travel, but more importantly he really did not think that he would be able to stand the over confidence of the guards. They really irritated him. He actually thought about being one though but when he saw how over rated they were he quickly changed his mind and settle for bounty hunter. That way he could still help out the people while doing it his way. His father was a guard and he always had to listen to the rules of the city and why he shouldn't do this and he can get in trouble for doing that. It really didn't help in the choice of either being a guard or bounty hunter. "The guards and I really don't get along well.". He said with a light smirk on his face

He decided to leave it at that. He looked over at Malla again. He had never really seen a Konti this close before. The closest he had seen to a Konti was when Duse took over and slapped a human girl with a fish for aggrivating him with her blabbering. He laughed at the memory. He had realized that he had not been paying attention to the conversation yet again and opened his eyes to Malla looking down on him smiling. Was she smiling at him? Did she speak of him in a nice way? He looked up at the sun then at the waves.

It was a really nice day for a swim. "You guys wanna go take a dip?" He said not sure if he had cut into a piece of the conversation that they were having. He looked first to Jorin then to Malla waiting for one of them to answer before he got up and went in himself.

Season of Summer, Day 63, 513 AV

"Swim?" Jorin's face turned the color of a tomato. "Uh, well you see, I ... don't actually know how to swim. Maybe, I'll just stay here on the beach. You know, watch the shore. Guard our clothes?"

Jorin glanced helplessly at Malla, hoping maybe she couldn't swim either and save him from his embarrassment. Then he noticed once again the scales on her legs, the slight webbing of her feet. Oh right. Konti. Of course she'd know how to swim.

"Well ... maybe if I just go in up to my legs? I'm sure I could manage that much. I mean after all it is a beach, it'd be a shame not to take advantage of the water. Although this time, Duce, maybe we should do it without all our clothes on."

Jorin grinned good-naturedly at the Akalak, ribbing him lightly about his earlier dip. It would be nice to take a dip in the cool water, especially since this summer seemed especially hot. Still, he didn't want to be the first to take his shirt off. He calculated that probably Duce would, since he was the one with wet clothes anyway.

Malla had been about to ask why the guards and Duce didn't get along, when he asked about swimming. She chewed her lip, trying to think of how to explain her way out of this. She could lie and say that, like Jorin, she couldn't swim. But who would believe that? She was a Konti. Yes, she didn't swim that often, since there were really only rivers around where she grew up, so her knowledge on the matter was slim...but it was probably instinct that had her be able to swim. Besides, she could breathe underwater, so she couldn't really say she was afraid of drowning. Well, she could, but it wouldn't make any sense if either of the men knew how Konti could breathe in more than one type of place. She couldn't go swimming, couldn't go too far into the water. She just couldn't, not with people around.

Her problem was her Windmarks. There was no way she would...she couldn't... Not since she had spent those years fighting, and sometimes without being attacked first even, which made it all that much worse. Self-defense was one thing...but to attack first? She grimaced slightly at the memory. Keeping quiet for a few moments while she listened to Jorin, she tried to think of a good reason for not going into the water before shrugging at the human man's look to her, not sure what he wanted her to do.

"You could go in further...I mean, so long as you kick your legs in the deeper water, you won't drown.," she suggested to Jorin, having decided not responding would be the easiest way to get out of this...well, other than just running off randomly. The running off option did seem rather tempting to the woman, but, at the same time, she didn't want to seem rude. She would only go with the not so polite option if she ended up not having a choice. Malla couldn't explain her why nor could she think of some vague answer, which was something new for her. She didn't like it, and if only because it was something she didn't know how to deal with, how to move pass.

"Uh, well you see, I ... don't actually know how to swim. Maybe, I'll just stay here on the beach. You know, watch the shore. Guard our clothes?"

Duce wasn't surprised at Jorin's answer. He couldn't swim either, he just walked out until the water was up to his chest and just floated or idled in the water letting it take him where ever.If he wanted to change direction he would simply move his legs in a crab like motion until he got to where he wanted. "Don't worry I can't either. I was just suggesting that we go into the water. He watched as Jorin's tomato red face cleared up. Was it really that embarassing for a human to not know how to swim? Sheesh he hoped that the Konti knew how to swim...that would be a real surprise if she didn't.

"Well ... maybe if I just go in up to my legs? I'm sure I could manage that much. I mean after all it is a beach, it'd be a shame not to take advantage of the water. Although this time, Duce, maybe we should do it without all our clothes on."

Jorin's comment caught him off guard. He knew that he was teasing and let a smirk show upon his face. He looked at Malla who still didn't answer. One would think a Konti would be the first to want to go in considering the webbing and being able to breath under water and such but he didn't want to force her if she didn't want to.

"You could go in further...I mean, so long as you kick your legs in the deeper water, you won't drown.,"

He took that into consideration as he stood up and took off his shirt letting his toned muscles warm up in the sun. "That settles it then." Duce said running towards the water flipping himself frontward and crashing underath the surface in a small splash. "Come one the wate feels great!" he called out to them both as he let the warmness of the water take him.

"You could go in further ... I mean, so long as you kick your legs in the deeper water, you won't drown."

"Well, if I do, you'll save me, right Malla?" Jorin lightly teased, throwing her a hopeful grin. Deciding to follow Duce's example, he stripped off his shirt and pants, and gingerly stepped into the water. It wasn't as cold as he feared, and it felt great against his skin. He smiled, and took a few more steps, then a few more, an then broke into as fast a run as he could despite being slowed by the resistance of the water.

Laughing, he spread his arms and closed his eyes, feeling the warm sun on his face, the wet sand between his toes. The shriek of gulls echoed from overhead, and he could smell the salt water and the heady aroma of ocean life. It was certainly a relaxing thing. He opened his eyes and turned, glancing curiously at Malla. He thought for sure a Konti would be the most eager to get her feet wet.

"Come on Malla!" he called, smiling. "If even I could do it, surely you can! It's great out here!"

Malla simply smiled to Jorin, "Sure, I'll make sure you don't drown," before she fell silent, watching the two go in the water. She chewed her lip as she heard their calls and debated with the idea of running off. If she did, that would potentially raise more questions, and she did not need questions directed at her. At least not until she could really think up potential whys. She shifted around for a few moments, burying her feet into the sand.

After some thought, she started to roll her pants up to her knees, revealing more scales that wrapped around her legs. The process was slow as she was still thinking, but maybe they would think that she was afraid of ripping a scale off by having it stuck to her pants? She could always hope. Probably she should have worn a colored shirt, but, well, it was decently hot, so white was the best choice. Besides, white clothes were easier to get a hold of. Oh, she was so going to regret this, she knew that already.

She took a breath and straightened, moving tot he water at a normal pace and only going in far enough that the water went up to her knees. She did like the feel of the water against her skin and scales and wouldn't mind to go under, but she had to be careful. If there was the slightest chance her Windmarks would show, she already planned to run as fast as her legs could carry her. If some wave came by and made her all the more wet, she would have no choice but to go find Laviku and beat him bloody. She didn't care if he was a god and connected to the Konti race; if this situation took a bad turn, she would fully blame the sea god.

Duce watched as Jorin took of his shirt and made his way into the water and then to Malla who only came in far enough for the water to rise to her knees. That was really weird. A Konti afraid to go into the water. He shrugged it off and made his way over to Jorin to make conversation and scare the life half way out of him.

He went under the water moving slowly toward Jorin so he would not disturb the water on the surface, making him unoticable. He would occasionally peek his head up making sure that he didn't bring any attention to himself or was going in the wrong direction. He continued his journey until he felt the water shifting with Jorins movements and positioned himself behind the human so he could do it all in one movement.

Duce quickly stood up out of the water taking hold of Jorin's legs and standing strait up sending the human 7ft into the air plus however tall he was with his hands around Jorin's ankles. The human was surprisingly light as Duce walked a few circled laps in the water laughing his successful attempt. "Malla! you should come join us." He said waving to the Konti to come further into the water.

"Woah!"

Jorin whooped in surprise as something lifted him up by the feet, and before he knew it he was hanging upside down several feet in the air. Twisting around, he noticed big, muscular, purple legs behind him. Of course.

"Ha ha, Duce," he groused, although he grinned anyway. "Real funny. You're gonna put me down, right?"

All of a sudden, looking down, he realized that if Duce took his word literally, he'd just drop Jorin headfirst into the water. Uh oh...

"Malla, I might need rescuing in a few chimes," he joked as he looked over to her. Even upside down, he noticed that she was only a few feet into the water and had only rolled up her clothes enough to expose her knees. If anything, she seemed more afraid of the water than he was, and she could swim! ... Surely she could swim? Jorin had never heard of a Konti afraid of water before. That would be like ... like a Bird Kelvic afraid of heights. In any case, he called out to her again.

"Are you sure you don't wanna join us?" he shouted, despite being upside down. "It's really fun out here! Well for some of us anyway..." he grinned.

Malla clapped her hand over her mouth to stifle a laugh as she watched Duce lift Jorin into the air. She didn't think that Duce would leave the poor man to be dropped into the water, so there wasn't really any concern in her for the moment.

"Malla, I might need rescuing in a few chimes."

She nodded in agreement at Jorin's words, calling back, "Looks like, unless Duce decides to be nice to you." She grinned, eyeing the distance between the water and Jorin's head. Hopefully the Akalak would be nice instead of dropping him, though she still wasn't really worried about it since it seemed like such a slim chance.

At least until Duce waved at her, letting go one of Jorin's legs. "Malla! you should come join us."

The Konti chewed her lip as she considered it, watching the two for a bit longer, then looking to the undulating water. If she went too far out, there was a chance... She really didn't want to take that chance, but it would be better if she didn't appear as if she had too much to hide. Not that she was hiding it exactly...she was just...not letting others know for certain reasons.

"Are you sure you don't wanna join us? It's really fun out here! Well for some of us anyway..."

She looked up to the upside down man, a faint sigh escaping her lips. She had two choices at this point: run or act normal. After a moment of chewing her lip, she took a few steps further into the water, moving just far enough out that she was closer to the two, but so that the water stayed below her waist. She would lift herself up on her tiptoes when the small waves would come by, to keep it below her waist. Thankfully it was mostly natural to move with the water anyway, so she doubted it would be much noticed. She wrapped her arms around her waist and tilted her head to the side, looking to Jorin, then up to Duce. "Happy?," she asked both, a small grin on her face.

He did not want to be mean and drop Jorin head first into the water knowing he could not swim, but then again if Jorin being in danger was the only way to get her to come out into the water..."Jorin, hold your breath." He whispered turned around so Malla could not see them speaking. Duce walked his way further out into the water until it came up to his lower chest and pretending to get pulled under while holding Jorin. "Now!" he whispered agian sending out his last words before going under and pulling Jorin with him.

Now it was just a matter of time. He took off his pants and tightned the waist band to the point where no water could get in, and gave Jorin a pants leg. His learned from his father how to breath underwater without having gills. as they breath in oxygen in the water seeping through the pants leg, and then breath the bad air out making little bubbles float to the top of the water. That way they had a chance against the Konti waiting to see if they were playing. He looked over to Jorin and gave him a thumps up to see if he was ok. Now all they had to do was wait.
