Malla had been about to ask why the guards and Duce didn't get along, when he asked about swimming. She chewed her lip, trying to think of how to explain her way out of this. She could lie and say that, like Jorin, she couldn't swim. But who would believe that? She was a Konti. Yes, she didn't swim that often, since there were really only rivers around where she grew up, so her knowledge on the matter was slim...but it was probably instinct that had her be able to swim. Besides, she could breathe underwater, so she couldn't really say she was afraid of drowning. Well, she could, but it wouldn't make any sense if either of the men knew how Konti could breathe in more than one type of place. She couldn't go swimming, couldn't go too far into the water. She just couldn't, not with people around.
Her problem was her Windmarks. There was no way she would...she couldn't... Not since she had spent those years fighting, and sometimes without being attacked first even, which made it all that much worse. Self-defense was one thing...but to attack first? She grimaced slightly at the memory. Keeping quiet for a few moments while she listened to Jorin, she tried to think of a good reason for not going into the water before shrugging at the human man's look to her, not sure what he wanted her to do.
"You could go in further...I mean, so long as you kick your legs in the deeper water, you won't drown.," she suggested to Jorin, having decided not responding would be the easiest way to get out of this...well, other than just running off randomly. The running off option did seem rather tempting to the woman, but, at the same time, she didn't want to seem rude. She would only go with the not so polite option if she ended up not having a choice. Malla couldn't explain her why nor could she think of some vague answer, which was something new for her. She didn't like it, and if only because it was something she didn't know how to deal with, how to move pass. |
