T'ala

Appearance

Race: Konti
Gender: Female
Age: Forty-seven
Birthday: 19, Winter, 465 AV.
Birthplace: Lhavit

Appearance: Image
Like all Konti, T'ala has the typical pale hair and light eyes. Her blond hair curls naturally and, when let loose, goes to just below her shoulder-blades. She has grey eyes. T'ala's scales are thickest on the top of her legs, less obvious the further they go down until the barest flicker of a shimmer on her ankles and feet. These scales trail back up over her back to her collar where they dip around her neck, stopping just past her shoulders.

Character Concept

T'ala is a pathological liar. She lies to herself and to every person she meets. She lies on instinct, coming up with fake identities and then running with them, very very rarely giving people her real name. Sometimes she lies for fun, to - as she would say - practise the craft. Other times she lies with a goal, to get somebody to give her something: money, jewels, help. On the rare occasions she tells the truth, it's when doing so has the better chance of getting her what she wants. A cynical person, T'ala firmly believes that, inside, everyone else is just as conniving and deceitful as she is, some are just better at hiding it than others. Due to that, she is instantly suspicious of anyone and everyone she talks to, and tends to jump to the worst possible conclusions in every situation.

As arrogant as she is untrustworthy, T'ala tends to think of herself as above the other people she meets, although she tries not to show it. She's confident and, when she wants to be, charming. One of her main problems is an inability to make decisions for herself, she tends to over think things a lot, making it hard for her to come to quick decisions. Due to this, T'ala tends to flip a coin when she comes to a decision she can't make, and then to do whatever the coin tells her to.

T'ala has morals, she just doesn't have many of them. Not killing is as ingrained into her as the next Konti, and is something she - for all her pragmatism - would always refuse to do. Consider, yes, perhaps even suggest, but never do. She also draws the line at causing intentional physical harm to another person. Her only other rule is that when she flips the coin, she doesn't change her mind later, and that's based more on superstition than morality or ethics.

Character History

T'ala's mum was a healer by the name of Nari, her dad - Ven - a traveler and thief. The two met by chance and, despite having very different personalities, quickly fell in love. When Ven left Konti Isle, he persuaded Nari to come back home to Zeltiva with him. The rest, as they say, is history.

T'ala was their first and only daughter, a few years after her birth Nari was forced to return home to the Isle to be with her sickening mother. T'ala remained with Ven as they thought her to young to travel, but before her mum could return, her dad got into trouble with the law and they were forced out of the city.

T'ala's first memories were of watching her dad persuade a group of caravans into giving them a lift, free of charge. At first they had intended to return to Mura to be with Nari, but the caravan was heading to Lhavit and so that was where they ended up. By the time they arrived, T'ala was nine.

Ven spent the first two months in their new home seeking a way to get them back to Mura. The little money they had wasn't by any means enough to hire transport, and was quickly spent on food and lodgings. After a while, Ven admitted defeat and decided that only once they were settled in a permanent home with plenty of money would they be able to return to Nari.

T'ala's dad taught her how to steal and lie and cheat and gamble. As she got older she helped him with his cons more and more, until, when he reached the age where he was more a liability than an assistance, she looked after him. Before he passed away, he wrote Nari a letter, and gave T'ala instructions to give it to her, no matter how long it took. She promised that she would.
