Roshtah of the Sons of Jaben

Basic Knowledge

Race: Benshira
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Birthday: 88th of Fall, 485 AV
Birthplace: Nyka

Appearance:

Image

He weighs about 175lbs and stands 5'10" off the ground. His dark brown hair is normal in his family, but what is different are his shockingly green eyes. Neither parent has green eyes which is why it came as such a surprise. His eyes are extremely receptive to light, and by that I mean whenever he is in the light his eyes grow extremely bright. In the picture above I did my best to explain what it may look like if only one eye was captured by sunlight while the other was not.

Character Concept

Roshtah was born and raised in Nyka. As such, he has a similar lifestyle of folks in Nyka. The only exception is that despite the constant danger and risks in Nyka, Roshtah and his parents are alive and well. His parents live in a normal town house in the Laat district where they have owned and operated a general shop for 29 years. The concept behind Roshtah is that he has lived his life with the risk of death looming at every corner but has never had any real experience with tragedy or loss. He never owned anything of great importance and the only people he knew well enough to love were his parents. What I want to RP with Roshtah is possibly losing his parents or the life he once knew. He lives in a society where danger lurks in the form of the Aperture and yet has lived without anything more than a few broken bones.

Roshtah’s personality in a word is patience. No matter how painstakingly slow someone is moving he can found walking with them. No matter how long the line is he can be found at the end of the line. He believes the patience is in his blood being of the sons of Jaben, but also praises Yahal for such a great blessing in his life.

If nothing else, Roshtah is normal.

Character History

Roshtah's history is that of any normal Nyka resident, so there aren't many stories to tell. But one in particular needs to be told.

It was not unlike any other day. Warm with a few clouds in the sky, today I watched over the shop while my parents were away getting supplies for the shop. A man stood near a few shops down the road. He was attempting to get people's attention and no doubt it was to purchase something, but at this distance it seemed like all he had was a rusty knife. Naturally I got more and more curious as to what it might be so I closed up for a few minutes to go and see. It was to my surprise that he was actually yelling which I should have heard as it was a clear and booming voice that almost echoed around. Maybe Yahal had deafened me to this man? I don't know to this day if I made the right decision to approach him.

"I got a trusty knife here and if you buy it now I'll throw in a small shield! Who doesn't want that kind of protection? Not much needed, but it all goes to a worthy cause! Anyone?" The man beckoned to all people to take a look.

I figured I would give him some advice so I told him, "Tell them what the good cause is."

He responded by telling the story, "Just a man from Zeltiva on his way Ravok to see family. Unfortunately I don't have the supplies to get there."

Some people turned their heads after listening to the story and a nice couple stopped to see what he was offering. "Tell them what you need, you can always trade," I advised. A brief explanation about what he needed and they thought it was a worthy trade since it was also for a good cause.

"You know I have something else I could sell you sir." He had turned to face me and stood up for the first time. Overwhelming. Extremely well built man that stood probably 6'5". Because I didn't want my legs to be broken, I asked him what he wanted to sell, which was most likely more worthless, sentimental junk. And worthless it was not. Sentimental it was. It had been years since I had seen another spiked chain and since there are variations this is not like the one I remembered. Six feet in length with many smaller sized spikes that took up about two thirds of its length, the weapon was also made of Cold Iron. I could probably have sold it for 150 Laats to the right foreigner coming through. Little did I know, but that's for later.

"This is a trophy I won back when was only a boy in The Pit at Ravok. Looks good right?" He saw how I was looking at it and that was something I usually kept in check. But it was so beautiful. I had to have it but I only had 100 Laats so I was gonna have to be smooth.

"Why are you selling it? Don't you have enough to get to Ravok?" I asked.

"Not quite" he replied.

"Well what are looking to get out of it?" I inquired.

"150 Gold Mizas sounds about right." He stated.

"What would you actually take for it?" I asked again.

"Well, I could let it go for 120 if I had too." he said. Which was true because he did have to let it go in order to get home.

"So what do you think of 60?" I stared straight in his eyes not with intimidation but searching for his honest opinion.

"That's impossible, I'm sorry. Where would you stand at 100 Laats?" He asked. I was cooking now. He switched gears and instead of being on the offensive he became defensive. Not unusual of course because a lot of people don't haggle too often.

"I figured as much but let me throw this out there. I won't pay more than 75 for that since I have to make a profit. Wait though. I actually am not interested in selling it so what if I payed you for a lesson of sorts? what would you charge for that?"

This was something I did often when dealing with high bidders. I offer my "absolute max amount" and instead of buying only the item, I might buy something else or even throw in something for them with the money. Having more than one object is harder for people to price so it becomes a "bundle". Buying things in larger amounts always means you get it for cheaper.

"Uh let me think... What about the chain and lesson for 90? I can't go much lower than that." He made sure I understood that he was serious about that being his bottom line.

"Deal."

I intended to use my new weapon as a self defense mechanism. The shop never needed a guard but living in Nyka it would nice to have some combative type skills.

Two important things I got from my first lesson were as follows:
1) Develop a combat style. Most weapons have some specific skills that can be retaught but this one is unique. You can truly make it your own and should.
2) Don't overlook its utility. He told me a story of how it saved his life when he was hanging off a ledge.

Over the next two years I developed a martial arts style around the weapon.

Major components:
Immobilizing,
Strangling,
And Throwing.

Some good and bad things about my new style

Good at:
One on one fighting
Endurance battles
Armored opponents

Bad at:
Very large opponents
More than one enemy
Not a precise weapon
Not good against precision fighters
