Reeves Kasargi

Race: Human

Age: 37

Birthday: Day 73 of Fall, 473 AV

Appearance:
Standing at 5’10’, weighing around 165 lbs, Reeves is quite a slim person. Due to his lack of fresh air and sunlight, he generally has a pale tone to his skin, as do a number of residents who rarely venture out of the deeper parts of the fortress city. His short, cropped jet-black hair has an unusual purple shimmer in the light. Although he usually has it cropped, time restraints have caused him to grow it out a little longer than usual. He’s got the general feel of an unkempt man, with an aversion to shaving regularly. His eyes are a dark blue, and often look red with tiredness. Reeves often looks in need of a few extra bells’ sleep, and usually does – his job tends to keep him up into the late night.

Clothing:
Reeves has a couple spare changes of clothing, but his usual outfit is recognizable to most people out in his neighbourhood.
His wears a dark blue cloth jacket, and has a spare at home, which he keeps well-maintained. He wears a cheap raincoat over the jacket however, since he’s usually out during all Bells. He tried wearing a small, dark cloth hat once; his daughter told him he looked silly, and she was bang on the money. He’s worn it ever since, as part of their inside joke.
Usually keeping to simple dark clothes, he makes sure his boots are nice and well looked-after, as he can be on his feet for an awfully long time.
His clothes may seem drab and dreary, but they suit him perfectly. The clothes maketh the man, as they say.

Personality:
Honest, caring, thoughtful, and loving are just some of the traits Reeves wishes he had more of – unfortunately, he barely possessed any that shone through his tough exterior. He wasn’t meaning to project an image of hardness in order to hide himself; he’s just a bastard, by his own mouth.

Reeves instead is an attempted womanizer; a near-drunk who constantly gets himself into trouble, always being dragged out by the scruff of his neck by his close friends and family. He plunges himself in his work, but feels like he will never be able to better himself, however just his work may be. He may feel like he’s a little rotten on the inside, but he’s determined never to let that get in the way of him spending time with his daughter.

Job Description:
Reeves is loosely affiliated with the Syliran Knights; ultimate defenders self-appointed to help stem the flow of crime in and around the city. Reeves investigates the smaller crimes that the Knights cannot distribute manpower to, usually arresting petty thieves and criminals. He doesn’t follow their high moral code to the point, but agrees wholeheartedly with their goals.

Based in the poorer area of the city, Reeves has yet to develop a significant number of clients. He often charges a small sum of money for taking on a case, either from the original plaintiff, or from his contact with the knights themselves, if the case is high profile enough. Utilizing cunning and guile, he can read the streets better than most – being a born and bred local definitely helps.
Although he feels he doesn’t get paid enough for some of the situations he ends up in, Reeves loves his job, and cannot be bribed; one of few who’s moral integrity means staying true to the law.

Family:
Mother – Helena Yuritsu; Deceased (54)
Father – Rand Kasargi; Deceased (60)
Former partner – Clare Druva; Estranged (30)
Daughter – Suzii Druva (5)

Home / Office:
His house is very basic, and very cheap. It’s drab, simple, and smells a little musty, but it’s a roof over his head, so he doesn’t like to complain much.
The office is your rudimentary one – a wooden desk, two simple stools, and a small desk of drawers. He writes a receipt for every arrest made, as per proof of arrest since he wouldn’t like people thinking he was unprofessional. Although he’s essentially the first in his unique field, he makes sure it’s all above board, as he values the Knights’ help establishing his new career.

Likes: A decent drink, the odd pipe tobacco to smoke, a good night’s sleep, his daughter, a nice steak, honesty, his job.

Dislikes: Dishonesty, criminals, violence, forceful religious types, his ex, paperwork, the rain.

History:
Reeves knew the streets in the city of Sylira like the back of his hand. As a child, the whole city was his play toy. He knew all of the shortcuts, secret ally ways and places of interest and wonder, and especially knew which areas to avoid. He was often getting into trouble of some degree, which didn’t help his parents’ relationship with each other.
Reeves’s relationship with his family was strained at best. Due to his poor upbringing, his father was a harsh man. He was never around much, and always on the verge of mistreating his mother. As he grew up, he convinced his mother to leave her husband, and keep him away from the household. Turned out Rand had a thing for other women, and had been casually cheating on his wife for the better part of six years.
After kicking his father out, Reeves had to provide for his mother, and so took a number of part-time dead end jobs, none of which satisfied him.

He took a series of dead-end jobs in different shops, but never seemed to last long. It wasn’t until he was in his early thirties, when he was working in a tavern that his career changed for the better. A few Knights used to frequent the particular tavern during their free time having a quiet meal, and talking amongst themselves. Reeves served a regular there named Remulos. The stories he told about the knights piqued his interest so much, that he soon felt compelled to enlist. It was there that he met his would-be partner, Clare. She was a healer within the Knight’s order – cousin of one of the first tier families, the Druva. She was at first immune to Reeves’s advances, until he annoyed her so much that she begrudgingly went out with Reeves for a short time whilst on leave together. His personality shone through, and they soon became a couple.

One thing led to another however, and soon Clare became pregnant. Panicking due to his childish nature, he fled and broke off his squire training, escaping for a number of months. He send money back home occasionally to ensure his mother was alright, and even sent some money to Clare, who rejected the attempted ‘bribery’ for her silence. He eventually realised the error of his ways however, and returned home in time to see the birth of his beautiful daughter. Clare was less than happy with his disappearing act, and so decided to bring Suzii up without him in his life.

Depressed, Reeves began to drink heavily, and almost killed himself as to excuse his pathetic life. The death of his mother brought him to his senses though. She had a rapid illness, but died peacefully and comfortably due to the money Reeves had provided for her. Shaken awake by the sobering light of day, Reeves put a stop to his self-destructive life, and reached out time and time again in order to make contact with his daughter.
Clare would only agree as long as Reeves had proven to have gotten his act together.

Reeves couldn’t finish his training as a squire with the knights however, and found himself without a purpose in life. He tried his best to re-enlist, but he was black marked from the order now. After having a long, hard think about what he could do, he realised that there was still a great deal of petty crime that the knights missed on a regular basis, since they couldn’t be everywhere at once. He knew the city very well, and knew enough to get on by. He knew that if he put his mind to it, he could help bring these thieves in and assist the Knights with their job… Hell, he might even make a decent living off it!

Now, how to establish the confused, blurred thoughts into something coherent.
His first port of call was to meet with Clare and talk to her over his idea. At first she scoffed at his thoughts, and berated him for such folly. He vowed not to quit though, and she saw his resolve. The compassion was so strong that she relented, and tried to help using her contacts with the knights as best as they could. Amazingly enough some of the knights welcomed the idea, as he would be helping them clear the streets of the scum they couldn’t otherwise get to. Regulous in particular was an avid supporter, having seen Reeves at his worst. He knew the man had potential, and helped in any way he could. Reeves spent months in unofficial training at the bequest of Clare, training in the art of investigation and how to correctly gather intelligence.

Regulous even helped in gaining a small office in the poorer district of the fortress city via the Housing Authority. It wasn’t very well furnished, but it didn’t need to be. Reeves now had a place to work, and felt confident enough to start applying himself.
Clare even began letting her daughter Suzii spend some quality time with the father she barely knew. Reeves knew his driving force was his daughter, and this would be the only chance he would get. Although the temptation to drink was strong, he would overcome it – anything for his daughter.

It’s been a few months since officially setting up his investigation agency. The summer season is in full-swing, and the heat is unrelenting. He hasn’t had a case in over a week, and his money is a little low. That is, until one very surreal day.
