Hello, Kelvic question

Postby Edelweiss on September 4th, 2013, 4:30 pm

Okay, so I have read this site top to bottom for just about a month. Well the faqs and guides not peoples rp; but I have decided like my roommate I really love the kelvics. Of course the age thing is hard and confusing; sad they die fast but that's what happens.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. I wanted to ask what animals people use the most so I can stay away from them. Roommate said he had no idea but he had used a big cat only for one to have been made just before him and just after him bumming him out. I rather not have the happen. Of course an idea for a neat animal to use would be appreciated.

I was originally thinking of a horse, or a deer but I dunno how many of those are running around. Thanks in advance~

While I am not sure how many, I would imagine the "common" animals would be Horse, Cats, Dogs. Those are animals that humans tend to think of as pet-like, and especially cats because they seem so regal, graceful and just neat.

I would suggest an animal that has qualities that you think you can emulate but also one that you can easily do research on for things such as lifespan etc. Deer I think would be a good choice, or perhaps a bird of prey like an Eagle, or hawk. Or even a falcon might be nifty too.

I think the point you are missing is that its not what animal you play, but how you play that animal. Many people don't stick to kelvics after they create them so its no big deal if there are ten tigers in the game.

The point is not letting the animal make you unique. The point is you being unique out of everyone that has the same animal as you. Think about it. Make your RP stand out, not your bestial form. I don't care if all the kelvics on the site are big cats or majestic eagles. What I care about is that of those big cats, who stands out and who doesn't? So many people want outlandish features, rare animals, weird diseases or mental illnesses and use these types of things as an RP crutch. They care less about outstanding RP and more about shock factor or wowing people with their words. It gets... _boring_ and _tedious_ all the time seeing that.

BTW Black bird isn't a site appropriate name. I'm sure your using it as a placeholder until you get your PC squared away. But honestly, you need a decent name that doesn't define someone or hold a title.

@Shayna, thank you very much for a real answer! -Hugs- Yes I had thought that a pet or domestic animal would be easier to do and more done so I am hesitant to use any of them. I know horses, sheep, cat and dog all very well since I own and grew up around all of them.
For the bird, I am not really good with birds actually. XD They sort of scare me and there is already a whole race dedicated to birds of prey; I don't really want to approach on that territory or a snake.

I may just do a deer, maybe a roe deer. I get herds of them in my fields all the time; same with reindeer though. -Hums-

@Gossamer, Seriously be nicer to people.

Gossamer makes some excellent points. :) I myself have dabbled in the kelvic race, and it is difficult to be inspired to write as an animal you know almost nothing about. Also, you shouldn't have to restrict your options just because everyone else happened to pick your favorite animal. And as Gossamer said, very few kelvics stick around for any significant length of time, so you're unlikely to be swimming in clones :)

Also, Gossamer wrote the kelvic race, and has been on Mizahar literally since the beginning (being a founder and all), so she's seen it all and she knows what she's talking about ;)

I was thinking of doing Kelvic character myself, but I was daunted and kind of scared I wouldn't do the role justice as I am thinking a Kelvic character has such potential to be a awesome RP character. I would hate to be totally not awesome because I am not quite adjusted to some of their quirks that make them seem so neat.

@ Alea, Making them or not, she could be nicer. It felt like a personal attack and I just got here; I haven't even made my character yet though now I am writing him up. (Went back and forth between male or female)

As for the animal, again I just got here and though I have spent a month reading the site I have read no ones profile or rp so not to mess up my own idea's. I don't know how many Kelvic there are or who plays what so I asked because there is a large possibility of swimming in a certain Kelvic type. If you had twenty people playing lions would you really want more?

I also didn't go from my favorite animal, while I love my house cats and my mushing dogs; I enjoy deer so picked an Elk. I was originally going to do a common brown elk, but watching Sound of Music I got the huge want to get a white one since the name Edelweiss is nice and would not be given to a brown haired child. So he has white hair, and is now a white Roosevelt elk instead.

@Shayna, don't let the chance of a mistake stop you. If you want to make one, make one. You might mess up, heck I will mess up I am sure; but you can make someone new again with new knowledge of what to do next time. Maybe make a short lived kelvic; then as your getting the hang of it and finding stuff out they will pass on with a hopefully full life and you make a longer living kelvic next time.

Kindness, courtesy, and politeness will get you a great deal further on Mizahar than being flat out rude to the Staff. This is your one and only warning.
