Appearance

The Physical:
Flora’s fair complexion and dirty blond hair could pass for appealing if not for her inattention to basic personal care. Her hair is usually in disarray with a sharpness in her face from lack of nutrition. Her frame creates a fragile appearance, betrayed by the strength in her arms. Flora’s left eye was badly burned, blinding it and leaving heavy scarring. Her remaining eye is blue-grey. Her facial expression is often vacant and she speaks in a monotone. Only her passion for magic lends a spark to her eyes.

Flora prefers brightly colored and light fabrics but her current situation does not allow such indulgences. Her casual clothing includes; a black coat buttoned to her neck unless she is relaxing or the day is particularly warm, a white shirt, dark brown pants and tan boots. Flora keeps a cloth eye patch over her left eye, embroidered with a stylized fox. She keeps her dagger concealed in her coat. In addition a smaller dagger is hidden inside her right boot and the ribbon in her hair is connected to a blade for emergencies.

Character Concept

Flora knows her own skill and has little patience for humility. She is impersonal and hot tempered with strangers or casual acquaintances, but kind and empathetic to those she grows close to.

Raised to worship Eyris from a young age, Flora is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. She is fascinated by many topics and will pursue an idea with relentless single-mindedness, no matter how unrelated it is to her current studies. Despite her fraying sense of self-preservation Flora takes care to not endanger those around her. She was born to practice magic and has studied since childhood to be powerful. Those teachings remain with her and the drive to be the best lives buried under her passive expression.

After personal tragedy Flora found comfort in seeing the world as a balance of forces. Happiness must be equalized by sorrow and she believes herself to be an equalizer, a cursed individual who must exist so joy and hope may find others. Her psyche was damaged by the death of her lover and has warped her beliefs into something twisted, lying just beneath the surface.

Character History

Pre-Creation :
There are people who are born great. If you have the surname of Rham, you are at least told that you are. The Rhams are a wizard family and are as little known as they are boastful. Any evidence of their powerful ancestors was allegedly lost during the Valterrian. The family is lead by a matriarch, the most magically adept adult female in the family takes the position. Consequently there is a lot of pressure on young girls to be powerful enough to challenge the matriarch once they reach adulthood.

Relationships with parents were mentor and student, all magical knowledge and talent of their children reflecting on them. Flora's magic was originally nothing to speak of, at least comparatively to other magi in her immediate family. She was expected to see her more experienced older sister, Garnet, as a fierce rival but instead they became close friends. They would spend days studying and practicing together. In Flora's 11th year, overgiving claimed Garnet and she killed herself in her madness. Flora blamed herself for the events that lead to the tragedy.

At age 13, a coming of age Trial began where a girl was sent to live in another settlement around Sylira. The family considered this important to their education and understanding so they might better represent the family. The location and preparations were handled by the current matriarch as children were brought to her.

Flora was chosen to live in Sunberth with a carefully selected couple, a potentially fatal challenge considering the city's opinion of magic. She knew representatives from the family were also watching from their own residences, under the guise of a merchant or traveler. Flora felt constant eyes on her, both those of her family and the suspicious looks of Sunberth's citizens. One mistake, one careless spell, could cost her her place as a woman in her family or her very life.

It was here Flora met a scoundrel of a man named Ronen. He was dashingly handsome and caught her attention immediately. After a whirlwind romance of only two seasons the pair planned to run away together, abandoning her duties to her family. But there was something Ronen was running from that he could not escape.

One night an Eypharian woman broke into Flora's home and attacked Ronen. The confrontation knocked him unconscious and the woman set the house ablaze with fire from her palms. She dragged Flora from the house, badly burned, and left her in the street.

As she recovered in the residence of a family friend, Flora nursed a desire for revenge.
