-- Fall 38th, 513 AV --
Jenni stared at the pot before her with a raised eyebrow. The thing had gotten dusty, and so it was her job to clean it. Except… it was so delicate! She could see the cracks where it had broken then been pieced together again, and worried that it would just fall apart with a single touch. Still… she’d been told that it was relatively sturdy, just… don’t drop it. Decided to follow those in charge, she hesitantly rubbed her wet cloth against one of the sides, watching it wipe off a dark smudge that covered the rest of the pottery. It left the spot much cleaner-looking, and since the clay creation didn’t even wobble… it gave the morpher a little more courage.
She took a seat at the table she was using and continued to rub in spots around the first area, smudging off any dust and grime that had collected on the age old thing. Underneath, the pottery was a nice reddish brown, with some kind of symbol carved repeatedly over its surface. It obviously meant something, but she had no clue what it was… probably some of the higher ranking seekers knew. So, she kept cleaning it, occasionally dipping her cloth into a shallow bowl of water nearby. As she did it, she wondered how in the world the artefact actually got so dirty… it was as if no one had cleaned it in years! Maybe no one had since it was pieced together.
That gave her an odd feeling. She was touching… cleaning… something that was probably decades old… or older. Was it maybe pre-valterrian? There had been a slip of stiff card with the pot that she hadn’t bothered to read yet. Setting her cloth into the bowl to soak for a bit, she picked it up, reading over the information given. It said, in long curly writing:
Suvan Pot, Created xxx?
Refurbished Winter 76th, 418 AV
Creator: Male, mid-thirties, probably potter
Use: Cooking, water holding
Symbols: Unknown
It was actually quite a lot of information, considering. As all of the full-fledged seekers had been marked by Eyris, they had apparently been able to find out several pieces of seemingly useless information… but they were quite important indeed. The use and creator were particularly interesting, though it was annoying no one had gotten the race… but he was probably human. The Bharani Library was so full of odd slivers of information like this, it was quite funny. Eyris’ gnosis was the most useful of all, in her opinion… the amount of raw data that could be collected with it…
The Twilight shook her head, slightly amused by the stupor she’d gotten herself into. Instead, she set the card back down on the table with plans for it… was ripped up slightly and dented, smudges in a few places. She might was well take the time to re-write it, if she was going to clean the pot as well. But that would happen after her current job. She returned her attention to the pottery, picking up her now soaked cloth and squeezing it into the bowl. Then she began scrubbing off the grey grime, making the rough surface as bright as it possibly could be… for clay.
It took her several chimes to finish off the entire pot, before setting it down. She fetched another piece of stiff card, ink and a quill, as well as returning the cloth and her bowl. She then settled down to re-copy the card onto this new piece of parchment.
Suvan Pot, Created ???
Refurbished - Winter 76th,418 AV
Creator – Male, Mid-thirties, Probably Potter
Use – Cooking, Holding Water
Symbols – Unknown
Looking back, she winced, realizing she hadn’t copied it entirely correctly. Oh well… it wasn’t like there wasn’t any incorrect information. At least it was a little neater… her own hand was certainly a little fancy, but much simpler than the original writing… much easier to read (at least in her opinion). Picking up both the pot and card gently, she reshelved them, slipping the note under the pottery so it stuck out half-way… easy to notice, and so it could easily be identified as belonging to the artefact. She returned her quill and ink to the place she’d found it from, and headed out of the library, her time right now finished.
Technically, it was nearly dusk rest, and she should be sleeping… but Jenni had another plan in mind. She headed out in the general direction of the Kinell Hotsprings, a relaxing soak in mind… since it was technically a time when everyone was sleeping, she should have any problem getting it to herself… she hated going there with large crowds of people.
